I read that the 7+ main camera is of sensor size 1/3 while the regular 7 has a 1/2.6 sensor size which will allow more light. Is this true? :(

Sure. Overall the 7+ camera setup looks cool but I'll most likely never use the tele photo lens.

Bigger sensor equals better photo 100% of the time
Of course. But is it true that the 7 comes with bigger sensor?
If so then it's bad since apple said during keynote that it's the same main camera.

I'm curious about this as well. Came across something that said the Plus needed more room for both cameras so the sensor is smaller than the non-Plus.

What? Really?

Wow. If this is true, the dual camera set up looks even less appealing. First, finding out the tele is f/2.8, then that the tele lacks OIS, and now a smaller sensor size for both cameras?

If true I think that is a big l deal

The product page does not say this. It could be like a Ram thing tho Where they dont mention but I would assume what they said in keynote is true.

The Plus has a f/1.8 28mm & f/2.8 56mm

The 7 has the same f/1.8 28mm

They share a camera, the Plus just has the extra telephoto.

It's not like the main camera in the 7+ (if true) will suck. The 6s / 6s+ already have a 1/3 sensor.
But I really hope at least the 7 has been bumped to a 2.6 sensor, considering the galaxy s7 / note 7 have a 2.5 sensor.

Even if we don't know what's hiding inside. If you just study the back of the both 7 models. Don't you also get the feeling that it looks like a bigger sensor is inside the regular 7?

really wonder how you come to this conclusion. where's the evidence? please show!
you're just panicking.

You're making a guess on a sensor size by looking at pictures of the phone?

Exactly. We need solid proof. Phil made a huge deal in the presentation about the larger sensor collecting more light. It'll be a huge disappointment if that's only the case for the iPhone 7.

The product page for the iPhone clearly says the plus has the same 12mp camera as the 7, and an additional one for telephoto.
The same 12MP wide-angle camera that’s on iPhone 7 works with a 12MP telephoto camera that can get even closer.

They wouldn't be able to say it was the same camera if it had a different sensor so it sounds like worrying for no reason to me

This is where I had read that there was a compromise to the sensor size of the Plus:

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/iphone-7-plus-1328075

Under the heading "iPhone 7 Plus camera and battery..."

"With an f/1.8 aperture, the snapper should be able to capture more light than the iPhone 6S Plus, but note that the 1/3-inch sensor size is smaller than the iPhone 7's, so it's unlikely to fare as well in low-light situations. This was presumably a necessary compromise in order to stick an extra lens in."

Upon re-reading this, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Particularly the use of "but" in that sentence throws me off. So, not sure if bad writing or horrible reading comprehension on my part. Also, I know nothing about how reputable or disreputable Techradar is.

If true, it's a pretty big deal, and a pretty big letdown for the 7 plus. I might reconsider and buy 7 instead (3 gigs of RAM though...)

It doesn't. It says 12 mp. It doesn't say they're identical.

One says 12MP and the other says 12MP wide-angle. One would typically assume they are identical. Didn't Phil even say int he keynote the phones are identical except for the dual camera, larger screen and battery life?

I read a couple of articles in August that talked about sensor size and that made me pay close attention on the 7th during the Keytnote. They were really careful about it. They talked about the iPhone 7 having this great sensor but when they got to the iPhone 7 Plus they basically just focused on the fact that there were two cameras. They said that the 7 Plus has the same "lens" but nothing about the sensor.

Even during the iPhone 7 video they talked about the image technology, and that "the iPhone 7 Plus also has a second camera" (paraphrasing from memory).

Between wanting to be absolutely sure that I was going to get the camera with the best sensor and getting sick to death of the size and weight of the 6s Plus I just got the iPhone 7. I figured worst case scenario is that the 7 Plus does come with the same great sensor and I can try again with the Plus next year.

But that being said even if the iPhone 7 Plus has the same sensor in the 7, I'm not at all expecting the second camera module to have the same great new sensor.

Does anyone have links for this. A smaller sensor in the Plus would be a big deal.

Well, it's not a smaller sensor. It's just the same sensor that is in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. That's a great sensor. It's smaller than the new sensor in the 7 but pictures with the iPhone 7 Plus will still take much better pictures than the iPhone 6s Plus.

No, he didn't. He was very carefully avoiding the subject. He did say the 7 Plus has the same lens as the 7. But that's it.

People just love to start rumors, I place no value on this speculation at all, will wait for official word and stand for nothing else.

You won't get anything official from Apple. It's why they avoided the discussion of pixel size on the new sensor. If they talked about sensor size on the 7 they would have to admit it wasn't the same size on the Plus.

What you're going to have to do is wait for a tear down and what most certainly will be come to be called as "sensorgate".

That is a direct quote from here: http://www.apple.com/iphone-7/

It clearly states there that they are the same cameras!

They are focusing on the lens as a part of the camera, not the sensor. It is misleading but it is what it is.
[doublepost=1473577239][/doublepost]
Yes you are correct, they are the same cameras, the only difference is the 7 Plus has the telephoto lens to zoom in up to 2X and then up to 10X using software.

Reminds me of when they said the iPhone 6s Plus had the same camera as in the iPhone 6s.
