What's "stupid" is that Apple likes to be misleading.

I'm looking at pictures on Apple's websites right now. There's one taken with the 7 on a rooftop court and the colors are more vibrant. Then there's a picture taken with the 7 Plus (the one with the zoom animation) and that's less vibrant.

Phil is being intentionally misleading and with those alleged tweets/e-mails (like we know that's who they came from) it borders on lying.

Seems to me like he answered a yes or no question with a yes or no answer. Don't know how that could possibly be misleading.

Love it. Someone at the HEAD of Apple says unequivocally its the same yet that's not good enough. Let's believe some nobody from the public guessing without phone in hand.

This!! And the person that keeps saying they are different (with no proof to back it up) is doing it based on two photos are are not identical and should not be compared in such a way. Its ridiculous!

I don't want to be negative, but do realize that senior VPs do not know the intricate details of technology that goes into their phones. They are more focused on meeting deadlines and quotas than doing the hands-on engineering work. As for the device announcements, they have the presentations provided for them ahead of time. All they need to do is to practice their lines (Eddy Cue doesn't even do that lol). At most, Phill was able to contact one of his engineering team leads to obtain the answer.

I'm SURE he contracted someone before stating technical info unequivocally like that.

The point is some at Apple is saying the same and still people refuse to believe it over what, some analyst who may have never touched the device?

Asinine now.

Sorry but i actually laughed out loud at this thread it made my day!

If Phil says its the same sensor then its the same sensor. The only other way to tell is to tear both cameras and see.

+1 and I did not even respond, LOL!

Conversations have likely been going on for months at every level when it comes to features as marque as the cameras in the iPhone 7 and 7+. If the sensor sizes were different or different enough to make even the slightest difference, Phil of all people would know.

I'm betting that his response was dead on and all kinds of things will bear that out in the coming weeks.

Not a photographer but wouldn't OIS benefit telephoto more than the "wide angle" camera?

Yes, the longer the focal length, the more beneficial OIS is. Lazy/sloppy from Apple...likely they couldn't package OIS into the 'telephoto' lens system without increasing the z height of the module or the added cost was too much for the 7 Plus BOM.

Yes. However, if they only could put OIS in one lens, it also makes sense to put it in the most used lens (which will probably be the wide angle lens).

Absolutely however, its Apple, how else will they introduce the 7S or whatever: Phil Schiller "Now both lenses have OIS!"

Been following this discussion with interest...I've had a 6 Plus for two years and I was ready to switch to a smaller phone with the 7 until I saw the dual lens camera in the keynote. I stuck with the bigger size and pre-ordered the 7 Plus just for the better camera, and I could have sworn Phil said during the keynote that the main cameras were identical. I would have been pretty disappointed too if this were not the case.

So now we have word from the man himself that at least the sensor on the Plus' main camera is the same as the 7 but that leads me to a couple more questions:

Phil specifically said the main wide angle camera is the same as the 7, but what about the telephoto camera? I know it has a different lens and no OIS but what about the sensor? Is it the same as the main or possibly inferior?

I read the TechRadar article and it sounds like they have very specific information about the sensor sizes being different. If this information is incorrect, where did it come from? Obviously they wouldn't just make something like that up, I don't think...

I guess all will be answered when someone does a tear-down after launch.

i can't believe this topic.

Its completely irrelevant what the exact specs are. Its how the images end up looking that matters to me.
