" The iPhone 7 Plus' sensor sizes are ~1/3in for the main sensor, ~1/3.6in for the telephoto lens. "

I'm sure once some official iPhone 7 images are released with the EXIF info this whole debate can finally be put to bed lol.

Well that's disappointing. I was hoping they'd move to larger sensor sizes and photosites instead of the opposite with a 1/3.6" on the new secondary camera. The 1/2.3" sensor in my Nexus 6P is fantastic.

That graph states the pixel size on the 7 and the 6s are the same size. That's not accurate because the 7 comes with a bigger sensor than the 6s and they stated during the keynote that the new sensor has bigger pixels.

Source? They are the same size sensor and same MP. Look it up. I'll correct it if I'm wrong.

He said quote "there is all new 12 megapixel sensor, it's large pixels, it's 60 % faster and 30 % more energy efficient"

He didn't say pixels are larger, just large (which is not true). I think the way he said that is misleading.

Watch from 8:40.

The sensors on the 7 Plus and the 6s/6s Plus are the same size but that's not what I was talking about. The 7 comes with a bigger sensor (they talk about it briefly in the keynote referring to the large pixels, which would not have been mentioned if they were the same size).

It's interesting that they chose different sensors but you can stick 12 mp on numerous sizes of sensors. The size of the sensor does not mandate the megapixels.

Yes, he said they're large. Which is moot point if they were the same size.

From Engadget review:

"This is where things get really interesting. By now you know the iPhone 7 has a single 12-megapixel camera on its back, and guess what -- it's a damned good one. That's saying something, considering there's been no resolution boost since last year, and the pixels on that new sensor haven't gotten bigger either."

7 and 7 plus have the same sensor.

Good point, well made. A 2x lens who's focal length is exactly 2x the wide-angle version HAS to have the same sensor size, otherwise crop factor would come into play.

That's not what we've been discussing on this page of the thread. It's already been determined that the "telephoto" module uses a smaller sensor, 1/3.6".

They did a tear down?

I think the point was if that iPhone 7 had the rumored 1/2.6" sensor as opposed to the current 1/3" sensor.

Now the images are out you can tell by the EXIF info its the same 1/3" sensor due to the unchanged focal length.
