Blink and you'll miss it, but there's a brief mention of No Man's Sky on the M2 Mac mini page.

And comparisons of RE8 against the M1 Mac mini and the Intel Mac mini.

I've been waiting to see how the new Mac Mini and M2 Pro/Max compares to the old base Mac Studio and I'm going to buy the Mac Studio. It gives the best GPU/gaming performance for the money. Here is my comparison. Prices are converted from Swedish Crown:

Mac Mini M2 Pro 12c CPU/19c GPU/32 GB/512 GB $2,735
Mac Studio M1 Max 10c CPU/24c GPU/32 GB/512 GB $2,447

Even without 10Gb Ethernet the Mac Mini costs $2 606. Mac Studio has also been sometimes on sale here with 10% discount and when the new ones with M2 come in March? the old ones going to be on sale so the base model will cost as low as $2 202.

Mac Studio has also other advantages gaming-wise:

Mac Mini M2 Pro 19c - 6.8 TFLOPS, 200 GB/s
Mac Studio M1 Max 24c - 7.8 TFLOPS, 400GB/s

It's also better to buy Mac Studio 32c GPU than the new M2 Max with 30 GPU cores. Seeing the prices went up here by ca 21.5% the new Mac Studios with M2 Max 30c GPU will cost ca $3,264. The current M1 Max 32c costs $2,687.

M2 Max 30c - 10.7 TFLOPS, 400GB/s
M1 Max 32c - 10.4 TFLOPS, 400GB/s

my guess they will skip the studio this generation.

Not sure if you M2 Max 30c Studio guess makes sense, the 16” with the M2 30c is that price pretty much.

I wrote that I was talking about prices in Sweden (and outside the US). MBP 16" M2 Max 30c costs $4,174 here, not $3,099 like in the US.

A bit unclear if it's M2 Max 30c or 38c but it's comparable to 3070 Ti and RX 6800 in "4K Aztec Ruins High Tier Offscreen":

Well that is really vague and somewhat depressing. Wonder what happened to cause the game to slip nearly a year from announcement.

It could be because it's a huge game with lots of free content so maybe it takes longer time than expected to test it before release. They were also busy with the Switch port at the same time. The Switch port was announced in Feb 2022 and released in Oct so it took 8 months to release after the announcement.

Well if it is supposed to also come to ipad they probably have the rewrite the whole renderer since it is likely ipad doesn't support moltenVK. (does the ipad support moltenVK?) So a switch port is probably far easier since it supports the API the game uses.

AFAIK, moltenVK works on iOS, so it should also work on iPadOS...

But if Hello Games used moltenVK, I suppose Apple wouldn't have advertised the game at the same time they introduced metal 3.

Yeah which is why I think they have rewritten the renderer.

RE Village on MBP M2 Max 38c

The Mac version of Trombone Champ's been released! (Aka, the doot doot game)

Runs smoothly on a 2015 MacBook Pro, and extremely smoothly on a 'brand new MacBook Pro'.

Currently, the mods that allow custom tracks to be played are PC-only, and any updates might be one or two days behind the PC version.

New Steam January stats

- AS Macs 52.31% +1.16%
- Intel Macs 47.66% -1.16%
- Windows 96.02% -0.13%
- OSX 2.61% +0.13%

Metrics like these either encourage or discourage game developers to develop on a platform without financial incentives from the platform owner.

I'd like to see the numbers by

- Nov 2024 as Apple claims Mac replacement cycle is 4 years
- Nov 2025/2026 as Intel claims PC replacement cycle is 5-6 years
- Nov 2030 as final Security Update for macOS & Windows is after 10 years.

Nov 2020 was the month the first Macs with Apple Silicon were released.

With a gap of 1.37% I assume is Linux or other *NIX?
