Lol they showed Layers of Fear raytracing back at M3 announcement, and to this day the Mac version just allows Lumen. Guess maybe they will finally update it...
Lumen has the ability to use hardware RT as an option. Not sure if it is as easy as flipping a switch though.

Last time I checked (about a week ago actually) on Mac the raytracing switch is greyed out. It works if you run it through Crossover/Whisky

It is a shame Ubisoft considered the game a flop and won't be doing a sequel.

I'm very curious of the spec sheet for the Apple Silicon edition.

Obviously M3 and M4 will be required for Path tracing as they are the only chips to offer Ray tracing.

As we all know, even an RTX 4090 struggles.

I am not upgrading to the M4 Max, so i'm very curious how my M3 Max will fair.

Wonder if it will include the path tracing feature.
It does and comes with Frame generation as well.

FSR3? Didn't think anyone was working on getting FSR2+ working on macOS cause MetalFX and Apple doesn't have it's own FramGen API to use.

Exactly. That's why I'm super hype to see how Cyberpunk comes with Frame Gen on MacOS. Similar to Path tracing where CD Project & Nvidia worked on being the first game with DLSS 3.

Most likely Apple and CD project worked on getting a special MetalFX build with the porting Toolkit 2 that will launch on M3 & M4 Mac before game launch.

As of Oct 2, 2024, AMD did launch Fluid Motion Frames 2 on RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 GPUs. [I dont know the math to say where Apple's M3 and M4 GPUs fit compared to AMD and Nvidia's mobile SoC.

- Per AMD "AFMF 2 can increase FPS by up to 250 percent “on average,” Tested in combination with the company’s FSR 2 tech"
- Per Digital Foundry - "“typically in the 2x range” when it tested the AFMF 2 beta in Control, CyberPunk 2077, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II at 4K using a Radeon RX 7900 GRE GPU.

I can't wait to read more info as we get closer to the early 2025 launch.

Driver level frame generation is an interesting hack. Not sure if Apple would be willing to do something similar. They would also need to work on something to improve the input latency when generating these fake frames.

I read the news here first and thought I was dreaming. This is HUGE and they just casually mentioned it during the presentation. It's the Ultimate Edition with Phantom Liberty with path tracing, frame generation and built-in Spatial Audio. It will be available on the Mac App Store, GOG, Steam and Epic Games Store.

Just to confirm, I can install and launch/play games bought on GOG.com without the launcher (GOG Galaxy), correct? Also, am I correct in assuming there is no Apple silicon native version of GOG Galaxy yet?

Are you guys sure you need a launcher for GOG.com games? One of their main selling points is that you can download an offline installer for games and launch them without any launcher.

Games announcements at Apple Events are suddenly very exciting. Seems like it became "the" moment where big game productions are announced.

But… we're still waiting for Robocop, Dead Island, Control… which were announced a while ago.

Control was shown off briefly in the M4 Mac mini section.
Last word on Robocop was 'this fall'
Dead Island 2's had some activity on a Mac depot on Steam a couple of weeks ago, so it's probably getting closer.

To touch on a couple of others mentioned on the list.

Songs of Conquest is an old school strategy title, think similar of Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Left early access in mid...August I want to say.

POOLS is a weird little thing, sort of a backrooms horror. Probably one of the better looking titles released this year, though.
