Yeah I saw that, along with Frame Generation, which is interesting since Apple doesn't have one, that we know of.Path tracing was mentioned in Apple’s announcement video today!

Not helpful if the game is supposed to come out early next year, right? I suppose it is possible that Apple could update Metal "out of WWDC band".Maybe in development for Metal 4?

Generating fake frames from fixed video footage is much easier than dynamic games. Really the concern is that FSR Frame Generation isn't as good as the hardware accelerated frame generation that Nvidia uses. So we (well probably just me) are hoping that Apple can do the generation in hardware. They still need something to improve the added input latency making fake frames generates. Unless I am mistaken, they don't have a Nvidia Reflex equivalent. This is completely speculation, but Final Cut Pro 10.8 introduced “Smooth Slo-Mo” which uses AI frame generation to make scenes shot at a normal frame rate look like high frame rate footage.
Could they use this technology to provide frame generation? It would surely be simpler to generate game footage than 4k video.
Im not sure what you mean by “fixed”. The video has motion within it.Generating fake frames from fixed video footage is much easier than dynamic games. I don’t think that contradicts what I said. You should check out what they are doing. It’s far more sophisticated than basic optical flow which is what TVs do. Really there is no comparison.
I looked it up, it doesn't appear to be realtime (for resolutions greater than 1080p) and doesn't have to deal with uneven frame times. But it is a similar concept for sure.I don’t think that contradicts what I said. You should check out what they are doing. It’s far more sophisticated than basic optical flow which is what TVs do. Oh it’s definitely not realtime, but it wouldn’t have to create as many frames generally. Usually people slow it down to 25 or 10%, which is many more frames.I looked it up, it doesn't appear to be realtime (for resolutions greater than 1080p) and doesn't have to deal with uneven frame times. And there is still no answer for how to fix the crazy input lag this causes.
The rocket launcher in Q3 was pure bliss. So, I got Quake III: Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein running on my MacBook Pro 14" via Mac Source Ports. They play and look beautiful. Will be playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein for the first time again since I first played it in 2001 when it came out. These are the first games I've installed on my Mac.
True. Love gibbing enemies. 😁The rocket launcher in Q3 was pure bliss.
I believe that the next Witcher and CP2077 will be UE based. UE games stutters on consoles and powerful PCs. It will be interesting to see how the engine runs and the extent to which it’s easy to debug for Apple silicone.
I'd be more interested in CP2077 RT/PT comparisons. To be honest 1440P RE4 looks to be CPU limited (looking at GPU usage) for the 4090, that may not be the case with M3/4 Max (or at least there doesn't appear to be a way of determining that with the performance overlay).M4 Ultra will perform like desktop 4090 in games?
M3 Max 30c GPU does about 60 fps in Resident Evil 4 at 1440p Max with no MetalFX in a video by MacProTips. This means that M3 Max 40c being about 30% faster (78 fps) is on par with desktop 4060 Ti 16GB or a bit better. M4 Max 40c GPU being 25% faster (97 fps) makes it indeed on par with desktop 3080 TI/4070 in Resident Evil 4 at 1440p Max. Finally M4 Ultra 80c will be 50-70% faster (146-165 fps) than M4 Max 40c so it will perform like desktop 4090 in Resident Evil 4 at 1440p Max.
The question is if there will be a M4 Ultra. (FSR is OFF in image 2)

You would think macOS would be the best place for multiplayer games because you don't need anticheat on macOS.I think they should get some popular multiplayer games on Macs to get gaming really going on Macs. Games like Apex Legends, VALORANT, Call of Duty, Fortnite, etc. since these are the games a lot of people stream.
I think there’s no cheats made for Mac because it doesn’t run those games, and if it did it would probably have cheats made for it.You would think macOS would be the best place for multiplayer games because you don't need anticheat on macOS.

Plus a disturbing number of anticheat software wants kernel level access for datamin-er, to make sure you’re not cheating. Apple would probably not allow that.
