No, it wasn't and isn't obvious lol. And you didn't say Mac Gamers but Mac Owners. Yes, those that want a native port at any cost will buy it but that ain't all Mac owners or even gamers.

So that was all you could make of my answer? Some nitpicking and laughing out loud? Did you just happen to miss my main point and the context? If it wasn’t obvious all you had to do was to scroll back and read my first post about the game and the following posts I had to make to clarify the details just because some people can’t help themselves posting prematurely before knowing all the facts and making every Mac discussion to be about their passion for PC. To make it super obvious here are some simple questions and answers you can use to eliminate your confusion:

1. What was my first post about? Release of a new native Mac game.
2. Who play new native Mac games? Mac gamers
3. What was my first post not about? Release of a new PC game
4. Who don’t play new native Mac games? PC/Steam Deck gamers
5. Are Mac gamers who want to play a native game interested in price comparison? Only if the game is available in different store.
6. Is the game in my post Sniper Elite 4 for Mac available anywhere else? No, only in App Store
7. Is a price comparison between Mac and PC relevant here? No
8. Why? See question 1-2 and 5-6.
9. Are Mac gamers noobs and unaware of PC gaming, Crossover or cheap Steam PC keys? No, but some people seem to think so to such an extent that they often have to let us know no matter what’s been discussed.
10. Do Mac gamers (or any other real gamer for that matter) prefer up to double the performance of native games or the cheaper price of a PC game through several translation layers in Crossover? The better performance.
11. Does Sniper Elite 4 even run in Crossover Mac? No

Unfortunately that’s what happens when PC/Steam Deck gamers/players/owners/users/enthusiast/fans/advocates or whatever you want to call them rush to give Mac gamers advice on what we should do or not as if we don’t know the different solutions, instead of reading and listening to what we want. It’s quite puzzling to see people who consider themselves avid gamers making all these posts about cheap Steam keys and advising against the native port without checking whether the game even runs in Crossover and to see even other people supporting it.

So when I say ”No Mac owner is going to buy a PC to play the game just to save $20 on Steam” it’s evident that I’m talking about Mac owners without a PC. Only those without a PC would consider to buy one for gaming instead of their Mac but as I said no one would do such a thing for only a cheap Steam key as long as there are native Mac ports. If you’re a Mac owner with a gaming PC you wouldn’t need to buy another PC to save those $20. Therefore my statement wasn’t targeting that group and if you belong to that group you’re again already a PC gamer and know about cheap Steam keys, not a Mac gamer despite owning a Mac.

As for your remark about ”All gamers”, I wasn’t aware that I had to take all gamers into account when I was talking about a new native game for Mac gamers. I didn’t even mentioned the price when I shared the news.

So when Mac gamers share news about a native new game it's relevant to include all gaming platforms and make price comparisons because someone might want to play it on PC/Steam Deck? Who else should we compare with? Playstation 4 and Xbox One? The game is on those platforms too and many Mac ”owners” play console games too. How about Nintendo Switch? People might want to play the game on Switch or play through Switch emulators on Mac instead of a perfectly good native port. Should we also include Switch prices for the game? It all sounds very logical and on topic.

You told once that you used Crossover yourself a long time ago but hated it and love that now everything works on your Linux PC and Steam Deck so why would/should Mac gamers want anything less than a native port that just works? So when it comes to Mac gaming it’s suddenly okay to recommend a region locked PC key that doesn’t even work in Crossover and advise against a native port? Sounds reasonable.

"Associate technical director Mathieu Belanger says the capabilities of Mac laid the groundwork for technical success. “The architecture of the hardware is so well done, thanks in part to the unified memory between the GPU and CPU. That made us think the future is bright for gaming on the platform. So many things about doing this on Mac were great right out of the box.”"

What NVIDIA GPU do you guys think the M3 Ultra is equivalent to in terms of gaming performance? Apple said the M3 Ultra has 1.5x the CPU performance and 2x the GPU performance of the previous Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip.

We’ve seen the full M4 Max chip in the MBP match the RTX 4070 in optimized for AS Redshift and Blender Cycles GPU rendering.

But now meaningful cross-platform gaming benchmarks are finally on the way, beginning this month actually.

And maybe the 60-core M3 Ultra will run the made for AS versions of Control, Assassins Creed Shadows, Cyberpunk 2077 at frame rates similar to the RTX 4080.

The one thing for sure is the Ultra’s 96 GB RAM and 819GB/s memory bandwidth should significantly help the M3 GPU cores handle raytracing (and absolutely not a single gamer will care at all - except for me 😇 )

Were the GPU cores in the M3/M4 Max bandwidth starved?

The bandwidth has always been there, and now with the Ultra models there will be enough GPU cores available to raytrace Cyberpunk at decent frame rates.

(Raytracing stuff, again)

Also, M5 Macs will show up by early Fall (according to other forum members). M5 might bring another increase in bandwidth and likely will further improve GPU performance.

The MacBook Pro with the Pro chip sells for $1,699 at my local Microcenter. The M5 version might be pretty nice when it arrives.

The M4 has a 2x faster ray tracing engine compared to M3.

Any speed improvement will likely be from more raster performance.

In the M3:U case that won't help much with RT Overdrive in CP2077. Curious to see how it fares on AC:S though.

Very curious to the CP2077 results, I saw on Reddit the Verge hands-on had CP2077 installed so real curious.

Yeah it is weird no one that had a hands on try was able to run the built in benchmark. But they all knew it was running at 60fps with max settings (whatever that means).

Geekerwan found an 84% improvement in their own test ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah iirc there was some variety in Blender scores depending on ram speeds. That’s just from memory though. So while they said the cores had 2x RT performance, that won’t necessarily translate to 2x increases in the real world.

Redshift and Blender are both optimized for the M4.

The 40 core M4 Max GPU improves upon the 40 core M3 Max by 20-25% in hardware raytracing assisted use.

Feel free to post a link to a MacOS software title showing an improvement greater than 25% in M4 GPU hardware raytracing if anyone has one.

Apart from the Geekerwan test?

Blender from M3 Pro to M4 Pro is just over 30%.
