Day and date release. Let's hope there are no bugs or performance issues on day one... 🙄

That’s a dark one, it seems. Both in visuals and storytelling. I never finish those games with the sanity meters, so I hope this one doesn’t try to break my brain.

Another game announces native Mac support.

Multiverse Adventure RPG Dragonheir: Silent Gods to Host its Second Closed Beta Test

Enhanced gameplay, expanded markets, Native Mac version revealed

It was also announced that on the incredible Apple silicon Mac lineup, Dragonheir: Silent Gods is native on Mac and takes full advantage of Metal — software that powers hardware-accelerated graphics on Apple platforms — resulting in smooth and responsive gameplay with high frame rates and stunning visuals. Leveraging technology, such as Metal FX Upscaling, Variable Refresh Rate, and Spatial Audio, players will experience enhanced graphics and a more immersive audio experience.

To be clear the demo is Windows only (or at least that is what it looks like). I am not at my Mac to be able to see if a demo is offered in the Mac App Store (since the macOS version is only being sold through there AFAIK). The system requirements are fairly modest which is nice. DSOGaming has a quick performance review of the demo up.
It's not in the App Store (yet), I thought it would be on Steam as the original version was. So there doesn't seem to be a Mac demo. But App Store exclusivity would suck. It might very well be part of Apples latest shopping spree then. I didn't know about this, but know of a few other titles. In any case, this one could be interesting as it's using Lumen on PC. Curious to see how they handle it on the Mac.

Lumen works on macOS, it is just stuck using the "software renderer". Nanite doesn't work, which is appears Layers of Fear isn't using Nanite at all (well according to DSOG). Heck the little bit if RT it has, supposedly, is just used for reflections. I am curious to see if they are using Lumen for GI, but DSOG didn't say either way.

Last time I used Lumen on macOS in a project (UE 5.1) with the self-build AS version, Lumen was buggy as hell and crashed every now and then. For a release version, it wasn't really useable. Might have changed with 5.2., not tried it yet. So I'm curious how it will perform (functional and performance).

No, there's no Mac demo and the game isn't even on MAS. I meant a demo for those who can and want to try.

First Capcom, now Hideo Kojima. Maybe a port of Death Stranding VR or DS 2 VR? Or maybe Apple will sponsor Kojimas new secret project? Next Bandai Namco with Elden Ring, Tekken 8 or Armored Core VI? ;)

Did they buy a developer? Or just a port of a game that folks didn't think would show up, say like GTA5 or Skyrim? Or maybe RDR2?

There is a chance Apple would team up with Konami for several reasons, like they did with Capcom.

Bloober team are the devs working on Silent Hills 2 remake. Konami owns SH 2 and the two made a "strategic co-operation agreement" in 2021 involving "jointly developing selected contents and exchanging know-how". Hideo Kojima seen on Apple's campus has also been involved in Silent Hills and worked for 30 years for Konami. He's also behind Metal Gear series owned by Konami.

Bloober Team is already working on The Medium and Layers of Fear for Mac. Both games are in the horror genre and use UE 4 and 5. SH 2 is also a horror game using UE 5 like Layers of Fear. The game is technically ready and is rumored to come later this/next year. Konami had big plans for it at E3 this year as late as March before E3 was cancelled in April. WWDC next month would be a good oppurtunity to announce a partnership or Silent Hills 2 as another UE 5 game from Bloober Team/Konami coming to Apple Silicon.

You know Kojima left Konami after MGSV right? And it was a very un-amicable split? There is zero chance he was there for anything to do with Konami or Silent Hill. Much more likely a port of Death Stranding or whatever his next game is.

Kojima and Konami was one of the messiest divorces in video game history. Kojima is a little diva, but Konami took everything from him, making it seem like he never existed.

Yes, I know. I was pointing out the connections between Bloober Team, Kojima, Konami and their games. I didn't mean Kojima and Konami would start working together again or show up on stage at the same time. Although anything is possible under right circumstances.

There is no Death Stranding VR lmao

But a Mac port of Death Stranding Director's Cut would be huge (and cause so much delicious PlayStation fanboy salt)

As for the secret project, as far as I know that's between him and Microsoft as that secret project is slated to be an Xbox exclusive

It's worth nothing our lord and savior Hideo Kojima has been a huge fan of Apple since the mid 2000s, so much so that Metal Gear Solid 4 is filled with Apple product placement with Snake having an iPod to listen to music, and everyone using PowerPC iMacs, Macbooks, and PowerMacs.

Sure there is, it's just not official for sale. Everybody says the game fits perfectly for VR and if Apple wanted to showcase its VR headset with Death Stranding making it VR would be an easy task for them, when fans already have manged to do it.

This was interesting. Saw it on their Facebook. So no more native Linux ports from Feral?

Skärmavbild 2023-05-24 kl. 19.13.05.png

That's was obvious. Linux gamers won a battle but lost the war. They can play most Windows games, but no one is going to release a native Linux game anymore.

Lost the war?! They can still play the games, some of which run better through Proton than on Windows, like Hogwarts Legacy. Plus native Linux ports were on life support for a long time since Steam Machines never came to be. The Steam Deck was the final nail in the coffin as Proton just became too good that any new game would day in date instantly be able to run on Linux with no work needed for a developer

Meanwhile on Mac you'll be lucky if CrossOver can run a game, and you gotta pay for CrossOver. When a lifetime license for CrossOver for ONE Mac costs $500, at that point why not just get a midrange Steam Deck for the exact same cost?

Actually if you become a BetterTester and contribute by testing and reporting apps and reach 5000 points you can get a free license for life for all three platforms Mac/Linux/ChromeOS. I did that in just a couple of weeks and now can enjoy my free CrossOver forever.
