Yes it is greyed out.

Perhaps M2 Pro or Max has RT ;)
Would that imply Apple has a separate API for HWRT than the one they currently have (IIRC it is a ray query equivalent).

EDIT: Also can you post a screen grab of the graphics settings page?

You guys beat me, :) but here is a review with M1 Max and with MetalFX upscaling and he gets 80-200 fps at 1440p with "Prioritize Graphics", i.e. max settings. Without upscaling he gets 70-100. :) 70-80 fps means somewhere between RX 5600 XT and RX 5700 (desktop) at worst at Max settings and 1440p.

Another one:

"I started the game on my M1 Max Mac Studio and Studio Display at 2560 x 1440 with the game’s Prioritize Graphics preset enabled. At those settings, Village generally maintained 60-70 fps with a rare dip into the 50s during one particularly intense scene. Next, I enabled MetalFX Upscaling, which helped hold the frames above 60 and allowed me to increase other settings, like mesh quality, while maintaining 60fps.

At higher resolutions, the frame rates took a hit. For example, 2880 x 1620 dropped the frame rate to around 50 fps. However, once I enabled MetalFX Upscaling, I was right back up to 60 fps. I was even able to maintain a steady 60 fps when I bumped the resolution to 3840 x 2160 and switched the MetalFX Upscaling from the Quality to Performance setting. Bumping up other settings like the shadow and mesh quality didn’t significantly degrade performance either.

I also ran some tests with the game running on my M1 MacBook Air, where I was able to use the same sort of settings tweaks to maintain around 30 fps. The experience wasn’t bad, but Village definitely looked nicer, running on more powerful hardware paired with a Studio Display."

I'm not terribly surprised. No HWRT on Apple GPU's so why include that feature on a game that only runs on that hardware?

EDIT: is the option present but greyed out?

My understanding of Apple’s implementation of Ray Tracing is that it’s been hardware accelerated since Metal 2. Metal 3 simply offers performance improvements to that already existing implementation.

Depends on what you mean “hardware accelerated”. It runs on GPU allright, but Apple does not have any dedicated raytracing acceleration hardware. Apple currently cannot offer real-time raytracing in games, unlike Nvidia and others.

I will be the first to admit that I could be wrong about my understanding, but it came after viewing Apples training videos on the WWDC app, talking about the new improvements to Metal 3 over Metal 2.

Do you remember where your info came from?

I mean, how can “Hardware Accelerated Ray Tracing” mean anything other than its plain meaning? Do you think that it’s statistically more likely that Apple has failed to follow through on that promise, all on the basis of a grayed out tickbox?

Can someone post screenshots from game in native mode. Don't know if it's MetalFX upscaling or the way users are uploading samples but it looks bad. Native looks blocky, MetalFX quality has loss of detail and looks soft and MetalFX performance looks like 480p.

Are these from your own Mac and PC? If not, then from where did you source them, please?

If you haven't figured out we're discussing image quality and upscaling and not gameplay which is still boring.

Problem with these Mac reviews is they favor fps over image quality that looks like poop.

You can't compare an in-game image with the "poop" quality of a compressed Youtube image.

Fortunately, Village seems to be a title that benefits from tweaking the settings.

Lastly, the screenshot from your PC version of the game looks pretty grayed out, compared to the Mac version. Do you remember if yours is HDR or SDR? That might go a long way towards explaining the difference in picture quality.

SDR. MR doesn't support JXR format from HDR.

All the reviews I’ve seen and gameplay shows that it looks great. Not worth wasting time arguing minor points with those looking to diminish the joy others are getting from a great experience.

Overall I am also impressed with what is being presented. It is making me look more forward to NMS as I Have never really been that interested in the RE series.

Yeah, the action/horror and the story comes first like a good movie. If the game achieves that you won't care much about minor differences. If you don't care about the game and find it boring there's also no reason to care about the rest unless you want to be a party pooper.

I just mean that the difference between SDR and HDR shows in the screenshots. It doesn’t seem to be because of Mac Rumors lack of support for HDR via JXR.

It means I can't upload JXR HDR screenshot for comparison with my previous SDR screenshot. Plus, you're comparing different scenes. For same scene in SDR the Mac version is darker.
