It’s sad to see for sure, but I assume that Capcom and Apple foresaw this (it’s not like I’m particularly smart), and decided the money was worth it nonetheless though.
Yes, they did. But their focus isn't on a single game or a single game series only and neither are the partnerships with others. The largest gaming market financially is and remains the mobile market with pay-to-win titles. Doing everything to drag studios into this is the best one can do for a license to print money.

Sure, but how does porting a year old game to the Mac help that?

How does it hurt it? It helps because we now have a have a game we didn’t have before.

I’m not sure where this narrative that only the absolute latest games are valid. The Mac has very few games and all are welcome.

Look beyond the game. It helps by building a software ecosystem for development that allows you to develop a title and deploy it on any target system much easier than before. Getting there is the expensive part (much more than for a specific platform), but once you are there, porting becomes less of an issue. Blizzard did the same back in the day with Starcraft, Diablo, etc. Eventually they dropped Mac support, but that was only when they decided to start from scratch.

I think this thread should get renamed since it's gone beyond just WWDC at this point. Should get renamed to "Major Mac Gaming News: Metal and New Games"

Well, it all started with WWDC 2022 and my first post is about that so I think I keep it in relation to that as a landmark. WWDC is also a recurring event so it feels present during the year. It’s good that the discussion has grown into other gaming related areas rather than declining. It’s only natural that it goes beyond WWDC until the next event but WWDC is still the most important ”gaming” event.

Changing the title to ”Major Mac gaming news” would put limitations on the discussion and prevent it from going beyond Mac. A broader title like ”Major gaming news” in a Mac forum encourages to more discussion not only about Mac but also other news related to Apple, macOS and iOS affecting Mac gaming. Anyway I don’t see a title change as a game changer. No need for overthinking. :)

This looks impressive and cinematic and gives me Mass Effect vibes. The Vanduuls remind me of The Chosen in XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. Would be great to have it on Mac. Back in 2012 they said on their Kickstarter page "We currently plan to support Windows and are examining our options regarding possible Linux and Macintosh releases. The Cloud Imperium team includes many Linux and Macintosh fans!" but on their official web site updated two months ago they say "Star Citizen is not available for macOS or Linux", maybe due to lack of AVX support on Mac. Apple writes though "If your code includes instructions for the SSE, AVX, AVX2, or AVX512 units of Intel processors, update that code to support Apple silicon. The best alternative to processor-specific vector code is to use the Accelerate framework, which provides a vast library of vector operations optimized for all Mac computers."

Yeah SC is like the literal definition of AAA budget game, lol. Guess Roberts needs the deep pockets of macOS users to get across the finish line....

Fort Solis was released on the Mac App Store. Hard to play on an M1, but fine on an M1 Pro. Although it's not very "interactive"… I've played an hour and it feels more like a new kind of movie than a game - which is not necessarily bad, it's something different.

It’s on Steam too for Mac. Many say it’s like a movie. It sounds like a kind of Telltale story.

Oh no...you don't know...

Star Citizen has been in perpetual development hell for over a decade. Squadron 42 was supposed to have come out back in 2016, but kept getting delayed because Chris Roberts kept feature creeping and fracking backers for more donations. Chris Roberts has squeezed so much money out of his players with spaceships that cost THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS despite said spaceships NOT EVEN BEING MADE YET. And that's only part of it, they are also selling pieces of land (that also haven't been made yet) and more spaceships with different feature creeped gameplay mechanics (also not made yet) and planetary vehicles (guess if this one was made yet or not) to get more cash due to development debt caused by Chris Robert's constant feature creeping. Hell some of these spaceship packages cost FIVE FIGURES I wish I was joking

With how many years behind the game is some people call it a borderline pyramid scheme since it's entire business model is just bringing in more backers while still failing to deliver on promises people paid for years ago. There's a series on Youtube called "Sunk Cost Galaxy" made by a Star Citizen backer that documents behind Chris Roberts' mismanagement and other absolute insanity that happens with this game that most likely will never be fully finished.

Even cheaper here in Sweden, just $16 like on Steam but on Steam you get the DLCs too but on MAS they are not included in the price. Still great price!

@Ethosik Have you seen the system requirements for the new Avatar game?

AFOP_PC_Specs_Final.jpg
Hah! I did not see those no. Still don't like they are baking in FSR/DLSS technology into system requirements.
