Hope this isn't true, was planning on getting the 15 pro this season to replace my 11. 14 pro would be 999 but still not a great deal for last years tech.

Me after "Wonderlust" keynote....

I was on vacation in New York over the summer; all of my commute throughout the city was using the subway. You get a good overview of what people like and use. By a wide mile its the iPhone. But the fascinating observation is what different demographics from different walks of life use. I saw obviously rich people, hustlers, security guards, teenagers (black, white, asian, hispanics), old people. The vast majority had a Pro Max iPhone, some might be 12, 13 or 14. But there were certainly quite lot of users using top of the line iPhones.

This informed me a lot about how Apple does have an opening for a higher tier iPhone model. Even if Apple releases an iPhone 16 Ultra next year and not many are sold, it's not a crisis for the company, because guess what? They have three other phones users will still be able to afford. But the amazing reality, Apple could likely get away with tacking on $200 extra and many will still buy it. Some will begrudgingly buy it. Keep in mind too, people are keeping their phones much longer. If you plan on keeping your iPhone Ultra for 3 to 4 years, its not out of the ordinary for the device you use more than your laptop or desktop. Apple see's that and know if you are stretching out your purchases over longer periods, might as well get a good chunk out of you and also hope that you pick up some services too to continually extract revenue over that 4 years.

It doesn't mean I am coming to terms with the price increase, but the reality it is inevitable that they will want grow revenue some how.

The novelty might be wearing off for some people. The updates are merely incremental and Apple sells them with abstract graphics how fast the newer phones are as if they have had any bottlenecks anyway. People associate Apple products with socioeconomic status and having latest models and largest is often just for feeling included. And Apple knows this very well and therefore they can raise the prices as well. People will keep buying them since middle and upper classes are growing globally. Then again, Apple is not competing with Android with their majority of their customer base. Enthusiasts will change to other platform if they deem so but majority Apple iPhone users stay locked in once they get in. Then you have to keep buying the latest and greatest models so that you don't look poor among your peers and you justify it with superlatives presented in keynote even they are mostly irrelevant.

And what comes to cameras, Apple has edge in video but so many other brands and models are leading the photography. Surely if you take the photo and send it to Instagram, less is enough but justified how? The better lens options are reserved to "pro" models and everyone wants to be influencer and make that Instagram or Tiktok to pop so obviously you need "pro" models.

Folks at Apple are not stupid. We as their customers are and we know it but wont admit it. And why would we? Then again you have the latest and greatest to show your peers.
Socioeconomic status? For a car maybe but not a £1,000 phone.

I’ll be buying it regardless as I’m sure millions of others will.

I personally don’t see the big deal, but also understand why others are concerned.

it’s my most used device every single day. and I always sell the previous model to make up for 70%-80% of the cost of the new model.

it’s a no-brainer (IMO).
I agree. I feel for folks who really have trouble affording the iPhone especially outside the US, but it sounds like many would complain even if Apple went years without a price increase.

I wonder whether that would mean a price increase for 14 Pro as well, in case they keep selling it (compared to previous last-year models). Otherwise I might go for a 14 Pro. Or just stick with my 12 Pro, I‘m not really missing anything, to be honest.

I doubt the US price will increase more than $100, but the Pros will start at 256GB.

I think wishful thinking. I would love this to be right though.
I remember last year when we knew the UK were getting huge price increases we thought base would become 256GB.

Every vendor and supplier just keep pushing us and pushing us to see how far we will go before we decide to spend our money elsewhere, or not spend it at all.
Went out this weekend with a friend and his wife. Their folding Samsung devices blew us away. Apple has a lot of competition on their hands. And I know my 14PM and my wifes 13 may not get upgraded to iPhones this time around.
My wife has already said she’s tired of buying the same phone every year. And as the one who pays for it, I’m inclined to agree.

New design? Smaller bezels by 1mm is not a new design. Nothing is changing. A new material that will make no difference to the user except it is more expensive is stupid imo. This year's pro phone is no different from previous years. What are you talking about. New SoC (sometimes on a new node, sometimes not), new camera, and a smattering of other bits and pieces.
I'm not going to spend several messages arguing why my opinion is different than yours.

If for you the iPhone 15 pro is not much different from iPhone 14 Pro, with 1) a whole new design (yes, new material to make it lighter, and new design with slightly curved edges, aside from the slimmest screen bezels on the market), 2) a completely new charging and I/O port with more than 100 times faster speed transfer using Thunderbolt, 3) the new action button which opens completely new possibilities, and 4) the biggest jump in raw power and efficiency in several generation (because the A16 is just a slightly overclocked A15), honestly I don't know what Apple should do to their smartphone to make it a bigger generational leap. But I am curious to know what is missing for you to make this a significant jump.

I differ from what you said, with the difference that I respect your opinion, but I respectfully disagree with it. In my opinion, the 13 and 14 lineup was the most iterative and boring of the past years, being the Dynamic Island the only big differentiating feature of past year's iPhone. A feature that is going to be present in all iPhones from this year onwards.

And, last but not least, no, I can assure you Apple doesn't want a customer like me. I don't purchase a new phone each year, or every other year, or even every three years. I wait patiently until I see a big jump in features and raw power or RAM. And, by the way, 5) if this year's iPhone is finally coming with 8GB of RAM, there you have another big generational leap. Apple doesn't increase RAM memory often, and when they do that, it is pretty noticeable in many regards.

Just my US$0.02. Apple products are great, most of them are even best in class. But I've reach the point where for me I just don't see the incremental value in owning the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer.

Apple's products from one or two years ago do everything I could possibly need or want them to do.

A few months back I was sure I was gonna get the 15 Pro Max. Now that we know everything about the device and that there will be a price increase I think I'm gonna keep my 12 Pro for another year. It works just fine.
A 256GB 14 Pro Max was $2.016 in my country when it launched. Even that is way too much, let alone with a price increase. We also only have iStyle, no Apple stores so the trade in value is abysmal. I could only get $278 for my 12 Pro that doesn't have a single scratch. That's a horrible deal.
I'm gonna wait for the 16 Pro Max because then the new camera will be well tested, there might be no island anymore and the phone on the whole will be better than my current one enough to justify spending $2.100+

yeah the prices outside of the U.S. are 100% ridiculous. folks likely still will complain as you said.

Yes! I have close friends in Mexico and Brazil. The taxes aren’t just inconvenient. They are so high that it’s almost impossible to justify the purchase especially when you factor in local wages.

I understand that people don’t like to pay more for something, but any price increase in the US is nothing compared to existing prices in some countries.

I realize Digitimes isn’t exactly the best source but I’m excited to see another report confirming the increase in display size for the 16 Pro Max.

A price bump to $1299 is acceptable IF storage starts at 256gb (or higher but I doubt we’ll get that lucky). Most aren’t paying full price for this phone anyway (in the US).

I’ll be waiting for the 16 Pro Max. 13 Pro Max is still serving me well. I want that bump in screen size to take back that small amount of vertical space we lost to the dynamic island.

The US is in the worst economic crisis of my 44 year old life. And Apple still pays slave labor and has catch nets so their workers will quit splatting on the concrete. Cooks gets his highest bonus yet…seems like the Apple thing to do! The greed is sickening, show the cost of production and then people would really puke. But if people keep on buying they will keep raising. Stand for something here people. Maybe Tim needs rectum surgery!

I’ll believe the price hike when I see it. I’ve seen rumours just before keynotes that say a price hike is coming for certain things and nothing changes at all.

I’m not delusional though, a price hike wouldn’t surprise me - because Apple
is Apple after all.
