Bear in mind that almost all of the following was purchased 5 years ago this December:

Runco PL50c 50" plasma TV: $22,000
B&K AVR-307 audio/video receiver: $3,500
Sony DVP-S9000ES reference DVD player: $2,000
Sony 400 disc DVD changer: $400
Monster Power regulator: $1,000
Miller & Kreisel 750-THX 6.1 setup (6 matched speakers + subwoofer): $5,500
Panja Viewpoint remote control system: $4,000
Avrak audio/video rackmount system: $2,000
wiring for all of the above (incl. installation): $10,000*

* This would have been MUCH less if only the folks who built my condo had let me get the place prewired... but instead we had to cut into the walls and fish wire around concrete columns, etc.

5 years later, and this system STILL pretty much kicks any other system's ass. You could come pretty close for a lot less money nowadays, but this stuff is all built like a tank.

The changer holds up to 400 DVDs, but I don't have it quite full yet... I have a lot of DVDs that aren't in the changer. With the changer, you can access all of those DVDs without having to actually put a DVD in.

I am 21 (today) and have a piece of software that Apple reps used as a good example of interface design at WWDC.

I donated more money this year to cancer research than my father (investment banker) earned in total.

Neither of them make me happy though. :-/

@clayj & 3rdPath:

You guys are not serious, right? Two adult men chiming in with teenagers who compare penis sizes? How childish is that!?!?! looks really like a low self-esteem.

Especially you clayj... you got issues man, when you need to show of your wealth and "art collection" all the time. I feel pity for you. You apartment sucks big time! Lots of art, but no soul... You can buy as many paintings and glas art-work as you want to, but it doesn't change the atmosphere of the place. You try to define yourself through the art you are stock-piling because you don't have anything to offer yourself. That doesn't work, mark my words.

Be sure that anybody who has the heart at the right spot and a little bit of life experience will not envy but pity you. Probably that's why you need to compete with teenagers...

Sit in your cold art storage facility, watch a movie on your "50k$ Home-Entertainment BS waste money who gives a flying fart" thing and think that you are cool... It's all good! But please don't bother other people with your inferiority complex.

Thank you!

Ohhhhh-kay... I didn't start this thread. Why does it upset you so that I'd answer the question that was posed? Are you jealous, as the thread title implies?

Seriously, I don't feel a need to post negatively about other people's accomplishments, so why do you?

EDIT: As to your accusation that I use my art collection to define myself: Where do you get off saying that? Art is just ONE of my passions, just as computers, cars, music, sports, etc. are to myself and to others. Yeah, I have a lot of art in my condo. So what? Sure, I like to share it with others, because I don't want to be one of those people who buy art and then squirrel it away so that no one else ever gets to see it. But that's not all there is to me, which if you knew me in real life, you'd realize. I'm puzzled at your amateur attempt at psychoanalysis based on a few posts here.

Also, stuff like my condo "suck[ing] big time", it having "no soul", etc.: All your opinion. You can think what you like, I really don't care beyond this response. But you know, there's an old saying that if you can't say something nice, you shouldn't say anything at all.

EDIT #2: If anyone else besides Groovebuster feels "bothered" by anything I've posted, please let me know so that I may apologize to you.

Getting defensive now, do you?

Editing your post shows that I hit a nerve...

Of course you can't give in now since it would scatter how you are defining yourself.

I don't want to get into a discussion with you, because I think it would be a lost case. Just a few additional words...

People (usually not teenagers anymore) who really achieved something in life don't have to show it off, they just enjoy it. That makes the difference...

This thread was titled "Make me jealous". And you were jumping on it right away, telling people about your belongings, which included your art collection, your condo and your car. Only material things, nothing really impressive you did maybe for the greater good. How old are you again? This tells more about you than you think...

If you only want to make it possible for people to see your art collection after you bought all the items, that's fine. But what does it have to do with your 50k$ Stereo/TV or your car or your condo? Exactly! Nothing! Why does it always include yourself posing? It is just pure bragging, the initial reason why this thread was started.

Over and out!

Actually, editing shows that I wanted to add to what I had written. That's all.

Uh, whatever, Dr. Freud.

If you say so. I do enjoy it. Doesn't mean I can't talk about it with anyone else.

Actually, no, I didn't post until like the 3rd page... hardly "right away". And as to what I've done for others... OK, fine: I don't usually mention this, but I've donated art to a local museum, helped a glass artist get a documentary made for public television, and loaned out art to travelling museum tours. I don't mention those things because those are the things that I don't feel right boasting about.

Sure, and what's wrong with that? We're all just having a little bit of fun, but apparently you're too humorless to realize that. Geez, call a doctor and have that stick removed before it causes permanent damage.

I have a history of acrobatics, so I'm adept at such things.

Video 1 (5.1MB) - Handstand pushups, my upper body workout.

Video 2 (3MB) - A standing backflip. It's really poorly executed, but it was after a night of dancing so my legs were exhausted, I'm surprised I didn't kill myself :p.

If I had some space, I'd do something really impressive. I'm a big fan of round off-flip flop-flip flop-flip flop-back flips :D. If I had a trampoline, I could do some really cool ****... I'm the king of the trampoline. I used a trampoline to train while in diving and I considered leaving my dive team to pursue trampolining as a career :p - this was right after trampolining was introduced as an olympic sport.

I'm young (well, 21) and I have my health.

Money can't buy those so I'm thankful for them (until they disappear..but hopefully that'll be years away yet!)

One cool thing that happened a year or so ago..I went to watch my sister skydiving and another person that was there took me up in a Cessna and let me have a go at flying the thing. Up in the air for about 45 minutes all in all :)

At the same place I met the author of the SAS type books, "Andy McNab" (who I didn't actually know of at the time..but all the same)

Wow.....that was a conversation ender right there, wasn't it.

As the person who started this thread, I just wanted to say that while some people here show off more than others, clayj may or may not be included, he was just participating in the thread that I started. It's not like he started the thread himself and hit us over the head with his plasma screen and glass sculptures.
I just wanted to hear some of the cool things you were doing, or have done in the past. How about some cool celebs that you have met. All I have said was, "I have floor tickets to Coldplay." I still haven't posted anything cool beyond that, because I can't top any of it. ;) I had NO! idea that I was posting with so many people, even teenagers, who were earning more money than I could steal from a fuggin' bank! I didn't know it would get to the point were talking about earning 7-digitss and firing missiles from fighter jets, because otherwise, I wouldn't have started the thread.

So while I think that Clayj's place suxxx (like living in a fragile art work....cool art, nice couch, great globe, but not friendly enough for me if that makes sense), I'm the one who asked the question, and he answered.

Fin.
