I am not a Mac user I always felt better on a windows pc but I do have iPad mini 2 to check on things when I'm not on my computer in my room all the time.
Welcome to the forum!

This doesn't quite look like the thread for this kind of post... we're discussion moving from PowerPC Macs (pre-2006) to Intel Macs. I suggest you check out the regular Mac or iPad sections for modern devices/computers, as well as Community Discussion.

It's lying - tried Waterfox yesterday on the Mac mini running 10.5. Current version crashes immediately, older versions refuse to run as it's the wrong OS X version.
I saw they have a subreddit for Waterfox, I might just make a mention of it there that it doesn't seem to work on OS X 10.5. Unless you want to do that yourself, @MagicBoy, of course.

@MagicBoy & @bunnspecial Thanks for trying. Now we now Lion is the requirement. For Snow Leopard, the latest beta version of Pale Moon still works, if anybody is looking for a Snow Leopard compatible browser. But it is still in beta.

Upgraded my MacBook from Lion to Mountain Lion via MacPostFactor.

It seems nice in terms of features. However, one big downside I noticed right away is that the fans are almost always running. It also seems a little slower, but I'm sure that will improve once I get the updates installed.
[doublepost=1499643401][/doublepost]Oh, and now I just got a message, none of the updates could be installed because of an unexpected error. :(

Anyone have experience with this?

Oh, and when I clicked "Restart" to that error, it booted into my Lion partition.

Just tried booting into my ML partition, I got a prohibited sign and it automatically booted into my Lion partition.

Help is very appreciated.
[doublepost=1499643522][/doublepost]Now reinstalling ML via MacPostFactor.

I upgraded to Mountain Lion via MLPostFactor too on my iMac Early 2006 (Upgraded to Core 2 Duo, don't have the machine anymore), and I had some problems with updating to 10.8.5.

If I remember correctly, this worked. Watch from 11:15.

I have to say, I had better experience with Lion, so I removed Mountain Lion. Do you have a specific reason for updating to Mountain Lion?

Edit: Latest version of Firefox (54.0.1) works fine on Mac OS X 10.7.5, just change 10.9.0 to 10.7.5 in Info.plist, and launch Firefox. YouTube doesn't work in Firefox 54.0.1 on Lion for me, but it does work in SeaMonkey 2.46.

That's the thing with MacBooks :/ they get pretty hot and the fans always run. On my BlackBook with Lion I have two methods of improving the cooling, depending on how I'm using it. For browsing and Office stuff I locked the rpm to 3333 (everything below 3500 is quiet but I like the number). Temps go up to 80°C but that is absolutely tolerable and it stays quiet. With heavy usage (video, games) the fan is nearly off and kicks in at full speed at 75°C. It sounds like a starting airplane but temps go up to 84 max which again is absolutely tolerable.
Play a bit with the fan rules and it should be fine even with ML.
On my model ML was a nightmare but yours may handle it better.

I found out how to install updates. :) Thanks though.

If Firefox 54.0.1 works on 10.7.5, I might just go back to that. 10.8 is being slow, the fans are always running, it won't let me sign into iMessage, some updates (like the security update from 2015 ) won't work, and there are some graphics problems.

However, I do like having Notification Center, Notes and Reminders apps, and the sharing features. Anyone have tips on speeding up 10.8.5 and getting iMessage to work? Because iMessage on my Mac would be AMAZING!

EDIT: I'm going to start a thread on this in the Intel forum as well, maybe there's more people there who can help.

Ok a few things, 1. People on the Intel forum aren’t helpful from what I understand. 2. If iMessage isn’t activating, there should be a code. You have to call Apple and give them that code for you to have iMessage and FaceTime enabled. In regards to the fans always being on, are you sure Spotlight isn’t indexing? This usually happens with a fresh install, and I think that may be why the fans are on and it’s running slow.

I did get the code, and I did contact Apple with it. But they spent an hour on the phone, and eventually directed me to a hardware person that knew nothing about iMessage (LOL!). So, I tried. Maybe call again and try to get a different person?

Spotlight was indexing, it just finished, and I do notice the speed improving and the fans quieting down. That was why I'm sure. Thanks.

I'm using the 10.8 Mountain Lion forum, so I'm sure anyone who checks there is experienced with ML. I'm not using the regular Mac forum of course, otherwise they'd just tell me to upgrade.

I ran into a problem with iMessage on my 2006 Mac Pro, and I still haven’t solved it yet. I too was on the phone with Apple for a long time, and eventually had to send system logs in an attempt to get it working. @Gamer9430 had to go through a similar process with his 2006 iMac on ML, and got it working after logs were sent. However, on a 2008 Black Macbook, I installed ML fresh through MLpostfactor, and iMessage and FT worked right off the bat. I guess there are a bit of mixed results with iMessage on hacked installs, but usually everything should work.

Thanks. I'll just call Apple again. How do I send the logs though? Will they send me a link that will allow me to send them?

They will send you a link to download a program right from Apple, I forget what it is called, but it allows you to upload the logs right to the support agent you are working with, and then that goes to a Dev team (from what I gathered from the person I talked to)

Ok, I'll call them again then. Thanks again.
