Stop being obtuse.

Ok so when someone wants to show a few of his friends a clip on youtube on his touch... oh wait, he can't... because there's no speaker. Just because "no ipod has ever had a speaker" doesn't mean it can't start now. No iPod has ever had Youtube before either, does that mean it shouldn't have it now? Of course not.
What if he wants to show them a movie on his 5G or Classic? They don't have a speaker, either. OMG, all iPods are crap because you say so!

Geez, I just had another thought. What if someone wanted to show a movie on his 3G iPod 2 years ago? Well ****, that didn't even have video capability. Sure glad no one bought them back then. In 10 minutes, you're going to be whining that it doesn't have a BD drive, aren't you? Just don't buy one, problem solved.

Because you're not likely to watch an entire movie on an classic surrounded by friends. You are however likely to be doing so watching a quick clip on youtube. Having a speaker on the touch, given that it already exists on the iPhone, would have been a good feature. Whether you decide to use it or not is up to you of course, but it makes sense to have it.

You may think you're making good arguments, but trust me, you're not.

I think that this 'argument' has run on mainly because people are taking very extremem positions. I don't think anyone would care if the touch had a little speaker, as long as it didn't affect the size or price of the iPod. I'm sure that people would take one side of the other if it upped the cost or made it larger than it is now.

That said, I also don't thing that most people find the lack of a speaker to be a show stopper. Some probably do, but by and large it's something that would be nice but not neccisary. Hopefully Apple will add a speaker to the next version, but until then I'm betting on it not significantly hurting sales.

And with that, I think we can probably drop it. :p

Emmm the speaker in the iPhone.. how can I put it simple?? o yeah it SUCKS! Believe me I LOVE my iPhone (even more than my other Apple products) but that speaker is quite crappy:p its meant to be a speakerphone, not so good for music, and terrible for videos. I rather have a pair of headphones and "show" a video than use the tiny speaker that might be blown if I crank it up.

Ah right, my mistake, that means as usual Apple were 'clever' for taking the speaker away for the touch.

I can't see how the speaker is rubbish personally, I think it does its job for music and once again, you don't need crystal clear sound quality for watching a youtube clip.

You know why there's a speaker on the iPhone?

Because it needed a speakerphone. Sure, it's handy, but it's by no means necessary for a pure PMP.

I never said it was necessary on the touch. Just that it would be better with than without.

Doubtful. It's a personal media player. The fewer devices with external speakers the better.

I'm sick of hearing people's shiat music over their crappy cellphone speaker.

Sure, put a speaker in a PMP that is strikingly thin. Who cares if its fat right? And its not only NOT crystal clear, its NOT loud enough. Please note I absolutely love my iPhone and is by far the best phone in the world (at least for me and many others) and the speaker its there to work as a speakerphone and that it works with audio can come in handy every now and then, but as far as Im concerned people like me that spend a lot of cash on headphone will rather "show" their songs and/or vids with headphones.

Heaven forbid I criticise the god that is Apple and Steve Jobs.

Obviously adding a speaker would double the thickness of the device.

Obviously a lack of feature is better than a feature you may or may not want to use.

Obviously Apple are always right.

Obviously the iPhone wins the majority of votes in a N95 vs iPhone shoot-out.

(by the way, all four of those statements were sarcastic)

Stevearm:

You are entitled to your opinion on what you what in the iPod Touch.

Ok. We get it.

BUT, not everyone feels the way you do. In fact most of the responders have strong opinions that they don't even want these options in their iPod Touch. That is their opinion and they have as much right to it as you do to your opinion.

This is NOT about Jobs and Apple and everything about what individual people want in their devices. Please stop insulting everyone just because they don't want the same things in the same device as you.

Guess what? They appear to be the target audience for the iPod Touch, not you.

So on the one hand you say I have as much right to an opinion as everybody else... and then you say...

This site boggles the mind sometimes.

How is that a wrong statement? It doesn't have the features YOU want, so go get something that does! Just because other people are happy with what they have doesn't mean they are fanboys or any of the other crap you were spewing, all it means is that these people are part of an audience that Apple was targeting, you wanted other features therefore you might not be in it. Thats not a good thing or a bad thing, it just is what it is! Good god get over it already, its the holidays!!!

Man the only thing the touch is missing is bluetooth of wireless music streaming, to some nice headphones or speakers.

I bought a sexy little external speaker for my iPod Touch that only cost me 5 bucks...

and the best part is i dont always have to have that extra chunkage on my ipod!

By the way, did you know A LOT of new cars don't come with tape decks? WTF is that all about? What if I want to show someone a tape!?

megapixel

I suppose that very few people really care about the quality of the actual camera. It is nice to have a camera in a phone or electronic device as is I cludes in the iPhone but some manufacturers include very high resolution cameras in their phones. If you want to the edit those pictures or open them up in photoshop however you might find that they look rubbish. There have been attempts at putting proper cameras into mobiles like casio exelim in some docomo here but even they produce rubbish images. 2 mp is finenand probably for the forceable future a very good stop.

However lack of copy paste and better finder integration - basic I'd limiations is something that really is not so forgivable.

Just my 2 cents...

Amen.

People seem to want the Touch to be exactly a phone-less iPhone, when it's not. It's not a PDA. It's not a phone. it's not a computer. It's an iPod, with wireless capabilities. The added apps (through jailbreaking) are nice to have, but not essential, and not the focus of the device.

To the person who said the above...
Actually, it is not a phone but it is a computer (albeit a very small and fairly limited one) and a PDA and an iPod. It can sync dates from iCal and you can write down appointments on it to sync back with your computer, and it can sync from your computer address book and you can write down address information into it to sync back to your computer. That pretty much makes it a PDA. Also, you can access the internet, log onto networks, and check your email via the web if you down want to download a hack for that purpose. As I already stated, that makes it a computer at least in the most basic sense of the word.:) Finally, it's a really nice iPod and when have iPods ever had speakers or cameras built into them?

I know the OP has been getting slammed... but I just have to reply.

Just because the iPT has a touch screen and (OMG!!) so does the iPhone, doesn't mean they need to share the same features. Remember: Apple is a busniess, and they are not willing to risk sales of a higher end product (iPhone) to sell 1% more units of a different product (iPT) to strange whiny people like you just so you will be "happier" with unnecessary features like a camera and a speaker on a ... MP3 player! You should be grateful that Apple was willing to put on Safari and YouTube. How many MP3 players have speakers? Not too many. How many have cameras?? I can count them on one hand. Buy an iPhone, genius.

Rather than retort with how your logic opposes mine (and others) because it's quite obvious that the world sees the Touch as exactly what the die-hards here want to discount.......(an iPhone w/o the phone part)........rather I'll just say that over at iptfans there are people working on solutions to these problems rather than just ignoring them.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=jqsXas2Q3fk (Pay careful attention to the comments!!! How DARE he!!! )

And don't forget.......like another diehard pointed out in this very thread.......

I'll give him this much: he's probably right about this...

Trust me all ye defenders of the JOBS, if the thing had a speaker and a camera, you'd be defending STILL to those who dissed it. "Hey, it's got everything, what more do you want?? You ingrate!!" :p

Here's the thing: some people want a speaker on the iPod Touch, others want radio, others want Bluetooth, more storage, a camera, better battery life... etc. I would like some of these features. But if the iPod Touch had all these and everything else people want it would probably be a horrible big device.

Sure, you can say "if you didn't want a speaker you could just not use it, a tiny speaker wouldn't add that much bulk to the iPT" but that could be said about every possible feature that you could put on the Touch. I'm glad that the iPT doesn't a lot of useless features (at least for me) that would only a few people think they need because that means I have an amazing slim and light device.

I knew what the iPT could do when I bought it and knew it would do everything I wanted and more so I'm happy. Call me a fanboy (or fangirl in this case) if you want but at least I'm enjoying my device instead of spending my time complaining about something I don't need.

Truth be told, I didn't even need an iPod Touch but I wanted one and worked hard to get the money to buy it. So now I'd rather enjoy it and use it than complain that it doesn't do everything I possibly want. If I really think it's missing a feature I'll just fill the feedback forms at apple and be done with it.

AMEN! I bought the iPod touch and I knew exactly what the features were. There was no surprises when I received it and I love it just the same. Yeah, bluetooth and a speaker would have been nice but, I still love it just the same. They could have given us Mail, Weather, Maps and Notes though... at least notes... NOTES! I am very grateful for my iPod but, leaving out notes just don't make any sense to me... I'm always having to jot stuff down, why not put it on my iPod?
