This made me think of some game I forgot the name of. I remember you could get your carry capacity to some ridiculous amount so there were memes of a guy with a backpack like 2-3x larger than he.
With the right enhancements you can definitely do this in skyrim :)

The most surprising thing to me about this is that an Apple store is open at 1AM.

100+ iPhones in one bag? How fkn big is the bag???

Also, is it physically possible to carry 300 iPhones? The things not heavy, but pure mass of it all… it’d be challenging at best

“Iphone 13s”? Were Macrumors drunk when they wrote the article? 🙂
Multiple news sources and the NYPD are quoted as saying the businessman bought iPhone 13s. As has been pointed out here and elsewhere, iPhone 13s still have SIM trays that are preferred by many customers.

I hate to victim blame here, but who in their right mind would choose to buy $300K of easily stolen items, and then wander around a major city at 2am? It just seems like a completely bizarre thing to do. There are so many other ways he could have made this happen, including having them delivered to his business, doing it at a more sensible time, and taking reasonable security measures.

So if I go into the mountains knowing there are grizzlies that could kill me, and get killed, who is to blame?

"Blame"? I think this is the societal issue. Why does anyone need to be blamed? It's a tragedy. There are grizzlies, sure, does that mean we can never visit national parks where grizzlies exist?

But in this case, assuming you don't believe that grizzly bears are sentient beings with agency, and that the person that robbed him IS a sentient being with agency... you blame the robber.

Are you the type that says "You really shouldn't have been wearing such a tight dress if you didn't want to be sexually assaulted?"

Not the brightest bulb to be walking the streets of crime-ridden NYC after being seen purchasing hundreds of iPhones at 1am...
Not disagreeing that it's not smart to make such a big purchase without precaution. But NYC is far from the crime capital of the US. Based on 2019 FBI crime report, NYC is #61 in robbery and #95 in total violet crime rate in the largest 100 US cities.

Arbitrageur and arbitrage makers (including reseller scumbags) deserve to get robbed. After all, they fleece the suckers stupid enough to buy from them every single day!

Indeed. It’s because of w*nkers like this that people find they can’t get a phone because the delivery date is so far off. It’s exactly like ticket touting. The rich attacking the poor. I’m glad this guy got robbed and I sincerely hope he never gets any of the phones back. He’s probably a p*ssyole anyway so would be so funny if he’d ended up getting beaten up as well as robbed. The police should concern themselves with more important things than trying to solve this

What a bunch of hyperbole. The NYPD should exactly be trying to find those that committed the crime so they don’t commit any further crimes.

Damn! Who **** in your Cheerios? The businessman bought iPhone 13s, so there is no far off delivery date. I hope you never get robbed and assaulted and then have others cheer it on.

Not the brightest bulb to be walking the streets of crime-ridden NYC after being seen purchasing hundreds of iPhones at 1am. Bet he will never do that again. Maybe from now on just have them shipped to his business like a normal person.
Hilarious. It is hardly "crime-ridden." New York City is one of the safest major metropolitan cities on earth. Certainly so in the US.

This guy just made a string of bad choices. It does seems QUITE fishy though.

An unnamed 27-year-old man who purchased 300 iPhones from Apple Fifth Avenue on Monday morning was robbed shortly after leaving the store, according to 1010Wins Radio in New York.

He was carrying 300 iPhone 13s in three bags and walking to his car at 1:45 a.m. when another car pulled up next to him. Two men jumped out and demanded that he hand over the bags. Not wanting to hand over 300 iPhones, the victim put up a fight and was ultimately punched in the face before thieves made off with one of the bags.

The bag contained 125 iPhones that were worth $95,000. Police said the man in question often made large iPhone purchases from the Fifth Avenue Store in order to resell them through his small business. It is not clear why he was making the purchase at 1:00 in the morning, nor whether he was specifically targeted based on past purchasing habits.

Apple's Fifth Avenue location is open 24 hours a day, allowing for the early morning purchases. Apple also had a Black Friday sale going on at the time, which the thieves may have been aware of.

The NYPD is investigating the robbery, and the victim was not seriously injured. A description of the suspects and their vehicles has not yet been released.

Wouldn’t it be safer and more convenient to have these delivered to his home or business? Walking around with that much merch without security, and in the middle of the night, is asking for serious trouble.

This sounds like something Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf would have said back in the day. Total falsehood that is easily disproven.

Most frequently, stolen phones are shipped overseas where they're taken apart and used for parts. Not only would insurance make him whole again, but someone would profit off all those phone parts.
You would really have to provide something more than conjecture to support that claim with respect to brand new phones in original packaging purchased legally.

Pretty much in the way NYC is ran now. They release criminals for robbery, shoplifting, and they go right back to robbing.
