“America” isn’t even the name of a country; it actually covers two continents. Hence the United States is OF America. As is Canada. As for Lake Ontario, it was here and named such before either country existed. This is why US Presidents should be required to pass a basic geography test.

Sadly geography has nothing to do with it. Trump is a fascist, and this is nothing but a petulant, infantile exercise in power. It will have to be fixed when non-authoritarian government returns to the United States.

Just goes to show how pathetic Apple’s leadership has been. They have all the power and money in the world but they’ve bent the knee to fascist and authoritarian governments so many times it’s just how they do business now

What a stain on Tim Cook’s legacy
You know Apple Maps also still says Lake Ontario, yes?

Companies will do whatever is within the law that they think earns them the most money.
Hence “performative.”

Yay, more changes or refusals to change that doesn't matter!
Definitely true from the perspective of Mapquest’s business. It is a failed husk of what it was, what it could have been. Attaching themselves to the controversy(ies) of the day isn’t going to change their fate, as people angry at this administration aren’t going to suddenly pay for Mapquest’s other services or actually like using their ad-infested maps platform. Their current leadership is from the digital ad space, so it is not surprising ads is their business strategy. I don’t really blame them; even Apple is showing adds now in its maps applications.

Who here had a family member that used to go on mapquest and print out the directions to their location?

Family member? Son, I was printin' out Mapquest directions long before you was suckin' on yer mama's teat as you played Pee Monkey on her iPad Gen 1.

But seriously I just had that conversation with my daughter last week as we drove through the Berkshires in western MA, wondering how on earth anyone got anywhere before GPS. And then we lost our signal entirely and had to sit in the dark waiting to be rescued by the locals (not really).

MapMESS, which was once a VERY respected mapping company, is REFUSING to recognize the beautiful new name LAKE AMERICA instead of Lake Ontario. Can you beleive it???

LAKE AMERICA is a STRONG name, a PROUD name, and quite frankly a much BETTER name. Everybody is saying it! But the people at MapMESS, for whatever reason, are saying NO. Very SAD!

They can change road names, street names, all kinds of names, but somehow LAKE AMERICA is too hard??? Maybe they are still printing 42 pages of driving directions and telling people to “turn left in 3.7 miles.” A DISASTER!

Google Maps will probably get it right. Apple Maps maybe, we’ll see. But MapQuest? TOTAL MESS.

UPDATE THE MAP, MapQuest!!! It is LAKE AMERICA now. Stop fighting COMMON SENCE!

MAKE MAPS GREAT AGAIN!!! THANK YOU FOR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Article: "Google Maps is now showing the "Lake America" name to U.S. users, but Apple has yet to follow."

Google Maps in Europe is being sensible and displaying Lake Ontario. And bravo to Apple. I sense an increasing move, even amongst US companies, to ignore the ranting and ravings of a despotic lunatic.

President Trump signed an EO to rename the lake to "Lake America" as the proper name and should be accepted without question. Otherwise you are not a Patriot! 🙄

I do hope this is satire, but I fear I'll be disappointed.

Two questions:

1. What happens if you aren't American?
2. If the president signed an executive order renaming the entire country as the United States of Trump, would you unquestioningly accept that too?
3. Do you think this is an acceptable use of (a) the president's time and (b) taxpayer money?

vegetassj4: you missed off "Thank you for your attention to this matter" from the end of your post.
