I think a special event for the announcement of software like Final Cut Studio seems very out of place. It also seems like most people wouldn't care about FCS unless they are a video professional.
We Final Cut users make up 50 percent of the video editing market, so it is a segment that needs not be neglected. Especially with Adobe updating the Creative Suite. So now Premiere users are finally in a position to compete with FCP circa 2006. If FCS is not updated, many Mac editors I know will seriously consider installing CS4 on thier Mac Pros. I just got the funds to purchase 2 editing suites in 3 months time, so if Apple does not update FCS by then, they may lose $30,000 from me alone. Multiply that by the two other LA editors I know looking to replace thier AVID systems, and that's 100 grand. Multiply that by other editors, videographers, and graphic artists, etc and so on...so it creates a healthy market...and this money would go to HP and Adobe, not to Apple alone if they do nothing.
Of course these figures do not even touch the figures generated by iPhone customers. Sigh.
I hope all pro apps will get the attention they desperately need soon.
