On the contrary, VR/AR are dead. This non-market is only large enough for one fantasy product. Vision Pro will completely dominate whatever this technology will become with no competition whatsoever. The market will be tiny, but other than iPod and iPad it will be 99% Apple, with 1% military and business use cases.

I wonder how many times I've heard the phrase "VR is dead." 😂

We can hate on LeZuck all we want but he has a valid point. He was probably scared Apple would make some revolutionary use for it (which they would have to copy) but in the end there’s nothing new. Just done much better. I think developers is what will make Vision Pro shine
Really interaction with the OS via eye tracking and gestures without accessories in a single headset computer not new in the physical real world, okay just because we have seen the concept in movies and tv shows even some stage demonstration it does not mean it’s not new and refined.

I wonder what you will say when flying cars are relatively affordable or teleportation becomes reality, nah it’s nothing new we have seen that before ahem in movies, shows, promo video or read in a book, etc.

Come up with something original and new that has not been envisioned in books, movies and shows then see how the audience reciprocates.

Armchair inventors a dime a million 😝

To be fair, there never was a profitable VR market to begin with. But now Apple is sucking all the remaining oxygen out of the aspirational market of the future. Meta's business model was never going to catch on, but now there's even a giant unmovable obstacle in their way. Zuck couldn't be more lifeless even if he tried.

Knock knock, the past is calling ahem iPod, iPhone, iPad, AW, ……AppleVision Pro (AVP no not the movie Alien versus Predator). 😝

Happy to continue to keep away from everything FaceBook/Meta related (other then WhatsApp!)

Lets just be honest, they are both doomed to fail.. well Meta has already failed. Apple just released this I feel to put it out to die in a year or two, I mean seriously $3500, to look at some Sheets or have a Meet?? Come on.

It doesn’t need one. The “killer” part is the experience of using all your normal apps in this type of environment.

The iPhone didn’t have a killer app when it debuted. It was a success because of the way it worked - multi-touch based that was flawlessly executed.
Actually the iphone did have a killer app when it debuted and that was having a quality mp3 player built into it. Even still today I see more people using their iphone as a mp3 player (itunes) than they do anything else.

The iPod didn't create interest in the Zune, the iPad didn't pave the way for the Fire HD tablet and the Apple Watch destroyed the market for all the smartwatches which came out earlier in anticipation of the rumors Apple is working on an iWatch.

The Mac and iPhone are general purpose computers, whereas the Vision Pro is a special purpose computer. If there are just one or two problems solved by a product, it could be that Apple solves all of them much better than the competition. Whereas Windows and Android products, which solve a lot of problems for their customers, will always be better in some use cases. For example is Windows legitimately the better gaming platform. Apple optimised the Mac platform for creativity and mobility and thus left stationary gaming PC performance as an open niche for the competition to exploit. You can't be good at everything, unless everything you do is just two or three things.

At least Apple didn't completely go all in and change the name of their company to Vision. Zuckerburg stupidly did that when he changed Facebook to Meta when introducing his VR/Metaverse product that has been a disaster so far. If Vision flops Apple can shut it down and use some of the new Vision tech in their other products and it's not a big deal.

he isn't claiming he has a magical solution. i hate the dude, but people are misinterpreting what he says on purpose it seems.
Well if apple doesn’t have a magical solution. And Mark doesn’t have a magical solution. Why is that an argument? That’s just admitting Meta has the same issues. Okay? And the point is?

Yes, but it is essentially unchanged from where it was on the prior day of trading.
It went up during the event.
And apple did a massive announcement of a new highly secretive and speculative product. Introduced a new product line. And wallstreet didn’t even bat an eye. The introduction of the iPhone SE 2 even gave a bump in the stock when it was announced.
But this didn’t even add a penny.
That’s bad.

That's what people said about the iPhone as that launched with a high price as well as carrier exclusivity...

Zuckerberg said the Vision Pro has no "magical solutions" that Meta has not thought of
Neither Facebook's or Apple's product is a solution to anything. AR/VR for the forseeable future is just going to be a bit of tech that's fun to play with for a while before it becomes clear that it's just a pain to use.

You're not the target audience yet... even when the first iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, etc.. if you remember tons of scalpers when those got released.

You'll know that you're now in it's market if it becomes affordable in 5 or 10 years after they release 2nd or 3rd gen of Vision (non-pro), second hand 1st gen might be priced just around $1000 or less?

Keep in mind the first iPhone was severely lacking. Not even an App Store. Do you honestly believe Apple shows everything this has to offer? Even now? I don’t. I fully expect Apple to be hiding some features until we get closer to launch. And this is coming from someone that literally hates AR/VR headsets.

Hey Zuck, remember what Steve Balmer said about the iPhone? Yeah.
Lol this is not the same at all. The iPhone was a revolutionary device. This is a new to product. Why would they think it’s ok to show a new product on video instead of giving a real time demo? Can you imagine Jobs announcing the iPhone with a video? Seriously? Wtf

We saw a similar foolish comment from Steve Ballmer laughing at the price when the iPhone was first announced:

The iPod didn't create interest in the Zune, the iPad didn't pave the way for the Fire HD tablet and the Apple Watch destroyed the market for all the smartwatches which came out earlier in anticipation of the rumors Apple is working on an iWatch.

Didn‘t Zune come after the iPod, I am pretty sure iPod was not the first portable mp3 player there were others far more capable and at various price ranges and features. Nonetheless iPod dominated once it supported WindowsOS platform.

macOS brought GUI interaction to the computing world granted Apple did not invent but refined to its vision.

iPhone also not first to the scene but did TouchUI on a mobile device it’s own way.

iPad is an in-between product between the iPhone and Mac, now transformed into a creative tool and consumption.

VisionPro will grow and be refined just like all the prior mentioned products. People are eager to snap judgements about the only thing holding it back is the price tag and I hope it receives a price drop like the OG iPhone months after release.

Apple is marketing its own vision of a computing segment its not encouraging people to do anything.

Yeah right Mark. This is exactly like the iPhone keynote days. Everyone thought Windows CE and Blackberry were smartphones, the industry was complacent. Even if this 1st generation product isn't the hands of every interested person this is shifting the expectations. The original iPhone wasn't a mass mass mass product until 3G, exploded by 4, and talks of iPhone being a niche product evaporated. History is repeating itself right now, Mark - you're on the wrong side of history here.

Lol, all these pessimistic comments lack Vision. 😝

In a year or two some will still complain while the rest will eat some humble pie.

Sounds almost exactly like Steve Ballmer when the iPhone was announced. Meta will be absolutely buried by Vision Pro.
It's more like the other way around.

Vision Pro is no iPhone. It's more akin to those prohibitively expensive Macs introduced by Apple under John Sculley. If Apple insists on a high-profit margin above all else when it comes to Vision Pro and its future iterations, it will lose its chance of ever becoming a dominant player in AR/VR.

Steve Jobs learned from his mistakes and applied the lessons to the development and marketing of the original iPhone. Alas, these lessons were again lost on Tim Cook, who was so eager to head off potential competitors in Meta that he inadvertently led Apple in the same direction as Meta. Vision Pro is technically impressive but isn't a paradigm-shifter like the iPhone was. Finger gestures and touchscreen change the way we interact with our phones. You can't say the same about Vision Pro. The development of Vision Pro was so rushed that there is hardly any stock app specifically created for it. Hardly any games. Hardly any specific use case Apple can come up with in its marketing.

Why people think it's Apple's next cash cow like the iPhone was is anybody's guess.
