A lot of people are making comparisons to how some people thought of this before iPhone, or iPad came out and that comparison doesn’t shake out.

The iPhone specifically was truly a night and day product. This is not. I think Apple knows that too. Of course Zuckerberg is understating his weariness of the machine, but if anything the high price of it will actually help them out and make their products more attractive, especially because I’m sure so many people had a wait and see approach. I’d be willing to bet psvr2 numbers bump up some also, but no matter what this will continue to be a niche market, now and forever.

Have you used it? AFAIK. No one outside of those demos have used it to provide any insight into the product (especially Mark).
For those that have demoed it. Have all basically stated the same thing. It's a wearable computer that provides as advertised AR experience. Better than any other they have used. It's still not yet available to know what we saw is "it" or if there will be any changes.

There is one application that stuck out to me "DJ by Algorithm". For the price Apple is charging. I would purchase it so long as I can get very low latency audio out of the device to a sound system. I wouldn't need 2 or more turntables, a mixer or a laptop/ipad/computer. Mic and headphones, monitors. All of which can cost well over $3500.

The added benefit of it being an extension of my desktop with a supersized screen. I have limited space for a large monitor let alone two or more. And when I want to watch a movie away from home or while traveling.

Apple will sell a million of these easy.
Yes, I'm sure there are a million people who have limited space for a large monitor and who avoid hotels with a decent large-screen TV while travelling. You nailed it, sir.

I will argue this:
- metaverse and all other "VR social media" are a niche at best dead end most likely
- VR has some appeal to gaming but still a niche (at least now). Has been tried so many times and never really caught on.
- VR has use in design and architecture... and that's also a niche!
- porn? Niche.

So far I have yet to hear anyone say ANY major selling points for ANY VR sets. Apple has made a good product but at best the customer base will be as microscopic as the Mac Pro base. If not less, because again... niche. Very few people have need for it. I will actually bet a lot of orders that will be placed would be out of curiosity and not out of actual needs.

Apple has stagnated under Cook's leadership that lacks imagination and has shifted somewhat into a service provider rather than a manufacturer. It has yet to release ANY game-changing product under Cook, so far it has been gradual improvements and gimmicks.

VR gaming is not niche. It's not completely mainstream, but definitely not niche. There's near 200 million VR gamers.

As much as I don't like him, he didn't lie and made a few good points.

People in this thread tend to get very defensive, but he didn't criticize Vision Pro, just said that meta had different values and vision when it came to designing such device and that's it...
Yeah. I don't fully *agree* with him, but his comments make sense. Different approaches, and honestly he and Apple may both be right, they're targeting different things

Apple Vision Pro - Premium Quality and Visionary
Meta Quests - Toys

Case closed

Mark is right though, the two companies have a different vision which is fine. Yes, his team has "thought" about the stuff on the Vision Pro, but the company doesn't have the talent to make it work. Zuck is just pissed Apple did it first.

have you ever tried working with your laptop hooked up to a TV in a hotel? Trust me, it's not pleasant.

Apple has a very good track record in researching what users/consumers want and then they take their time to design and develop the right product for it. No, like any other vendor in the industry, they are not getting it right all the time and certainly not on the first try - but they are getting close to that much more often than others. Mark Zuckerbergs claim to fame is not hardware innovation - but he is entitled to an opinion. I am entitled to give a rat's proverbial behind about his opinion though as well ...

The other dude was talking about watching a movie.

And to answer your question, yes. I use a wireless mouse and keyboard with my MacBook Pro hooked up to the TV using an HDMI cable. I don't know what's so unpleasant about it.

Yes, but you need to read between the lines. His vision involves selling a cheap product to the masses and then profiting by harvesting and monetizing their most personal information without their consent. His vision also includes the notion that it's better and cheaper to copy other companies' innovations than doing it in-house.

He has no talent, no ethics, no vision, no taste.

There were plenty of windows phones. You must have never heard of Samsung blackjack. A Windows Blackberry clone by Samsung, which had real keyboard, exchange integration and some apps.Motorola had few windows phones too.
That was the last phone I had before getting an iPhone 3G. Worked well, and I liked the keyboard on it. Thin and light. But, the iPhone was way better.

Solutions to what, exactly?

Edit: Zuck actually elaborates: “…to any of the constraints on laws and physics that our teams haven’t already explored and thought of.” I guess that’s fair.
Tell us you don’t have access to a silicon design and engineering team capable of drawing up a dedicated R1 chip without telling us you don’t have access to a silicon design and engineering team capable of drawing up a dedicated R1 chip. 😂

He’s even worse than Bill Gates back in the day. And his back then wife Melinda’s vision, the hideous BOB, might’ve been quite tasteless, but it wasn’t completely out of place in that decade and was at least a honest attempt at a spacial computing-inspired metaphor (albeit completely flat and horribly skeuomorphic), and way before its time. And even today, Microsoft manages to be not as hostile and aggressive when it comes to collecting data as Meta is. 🤷‍♂️

Avoid hotels with a large monitor? Many hotels have TV's. And for the most part you have to plug into them to use it if you want to use it as your monitor (Apple is working with hotels to add AirPlay though, and some place support Cast). Now, travel with an MacBook Air. Open, look at with your Vision Pro. Larger screen than any hotel provides in your room. Again, use cases.

Many people travel. Many people work in tech (world wide). I have a use case due to the DJ App, and because I lack the space for large monitors when I'm home. When traveling I could have a massive screen and eliminate my environment (say on a plane or train or in a long car ride). There are uses for this. Its expensive, but so are well spec'd Mac's.

So yeah, I'm sure there is a good million people out there that would buy this. I can even see other use cases for videography/cinema/photography. Depending on how good the cameras are. You can send people to video weddings or other events, and just wear this. Take pictures and view the event as if you're there. Same for concerts, sports (which they demoed) movie production. Take a reporter on the scene and the camera person is wearing JUST this headset. Connected to a iPad in a backpack with cellular connection.

I agree with a lot of your points. However, when you factor in returns, the AVP will sell nowhere near 1 million units in the first year of release. I'm the never say never type, so I'd give it maybe a 1% chance of Apple selling 1 million of these when returns are factored in. Now, say Apple has this in their stores and online for 3-5 years, with the same price like they always do, then maybe they will sell 1 million units spread out over that timeframe.

The -iPhone- doesn’t do anything our blackberry (or Nokia or Windows phone) can’t do. It’s not like Apple reinvented physics. You send email, look at the web and make phone calls. So what that it’s full screen - you give up real, tactile keys. The iPhone is nothing to worry about.
Yeah I missed playing all those Arcade quality games on my 3310, or customising my Starbucks and ordering ahead at McDonald's on my Windows phone... :')

Why would you have to hook your laptop up to the TV? Why not mirror it? I have Samsung Dex so I can do this almost anywhere anymore. No cables required.
This doesn't exist everywhere unfortunately. And it's not like you can pick the size an or location of where the TV will be in the room. With this headset. I will not care if the room has a TV or not. Or have to worry about their different interfaces or limitations.

Still waiting your magical solution to Meta's problems in the next decade Zuck... I think you went too much into your headset
