A good joke to share with friends and family. The only thing I use is instagram and I am planning to delete that soon.

Engagement/comments -> ad revenue? It works obviously 🤷‍♂️
You make an excellent point. I've really come to question the necessity of following this site. In the days I started following MR was around 2007; I was a "Creative" at an Apple store. Steve Jobs was still alive, and I was in love with the "Apple Culture". Part of that enthusiasm was due to this forum. But now, like all areas of the internet, hate runs ridiculously rampant here. I hate what it (MacRumors) has become. I only stay here out of habit; it appears more and more I should change my way of thinking...

Farewell to a golden era...

WhatsApp Is 'Far More Private and Secure' Than iMessage—Yeah, but it’s also owned by Meta/Facebook. 🤣

Every single human on this planet knows that Mark Zuckerberg is just a money grab. Never had an original idea of his own, and his ulterior motive with anything he does is making money, the sleazy way.
He’s a bit more than a money grab… He’s a robotic human installed into his position to run CIA/DARPA’s LifeLog population surveillance program, AKA Facebook.

Not sure his controllers would be happy with his performance recently.

Nothing happened on my phone, no updates... it's not even relevant!

Something definitely happened on their end, because I never enabled iCloud messages and I check it quite often not to be enabled.

So how come it got enabled and started syncing SMS and iMessages over two years old?

Why do they have this messages and iMessages stored?

This is something very serious, it's irrelevant that your messages are about eating donuts.
It’s a setting on your phone not on their end.

If you’re not even doing security updates, you probably have bigger issues than worrying about Apple getting your messages. Perhaps a vulnerability was exploited to get information off your phone? Of course this isn’t done by Apple.

I don’t think Apple, or anyone would remotely access your phone, unless you were some sort of top level government official or a political dissenter.

It’s the same reason they allow, and even promote people who dislike Apple products or Apple as a company to hang around here. It gets people fired up, and that means more engagement and more ads. It’s just how the Internet works now.

I have multiple screenshots as evidence of Whats app mining chat messages and then displaying Facebook ads relevant only to conversations I have had in the Whats App chat. Things so obscure and unique to 'one-off' chat comments that the only way Facebook could consider displaying a recommendation for service is if Whats App was mining my data and sharing it with Facebook.

The only real option is to use Signal if you are concerned about privacy.
I have evidence of Signal doing the same data mining.
Signal requires a phone number to even use the darn thing. That is a dead giveaway that it's not secure, and not even imessage requires that.

Apple, like all the tech companies, collaborates with the deep state. But it is one of the less cooperative ones. I used to trust imessage until apple came out with that "lets scan all your photos to make sure you aren't a sicko taking degenerate photos of children" scheme, but I'd still trust it over Signal or Whatsapp.

What is safe? Take a look at an open source protocol like Session. But please let's not spread the idea that Signal is safe or secure.

damn Zuck now i dont trust whatsapp that much anymore…..thanks for nothin’!

The reason WhatsApp is secure and encrypted is because it was developed that way.....and then Facebook/Meta bought it. Ofcouse now that Zuck owns it, he can claim and take credit for its security.

Can he say the same thing about FB Messenger?

i refuse to use whatsapp or any facebook product. i'd say the same thing if i had an android. it's not about whatsapp vs imessage for me. i detest facebook and won't go near them ever again.
You may refuse to use it but then you are isolated to the US. Not defending Whatsapp but outside the US that is what everyone uses. Nobody uses iMessages outside the US. Good luck with that.

Seriousness aside, do you think Zuck played the older version of Rickeon Stark in GoT? ;)

Would trust iMessage over WhatsApp any day! But iCloud backups should be end to end encrypted.

It seem as though an opinion has been converted into marketing misinterpretation.

Also, if you are concerned about privacy, it is recommended do a local backup of your iPhone.

He's being misleading about iMessage not having encrypted backups. Yes, iCloud backups are not end-to-end encrypted. But iCloud backups don't even contain iMessages.
iMessage is its own thing, and all iMessages are end-to-end encrypted. Even when you have iMessages in iCloud turned on.

He has a big PR problem... no one believes him... its a tough sell to get anyone to believe this I think.

True. The actual credit should go to the original WhatsApp carriers instead of Zuck. Let’s say we are lucky that WhatsApp has maintained the e2ee and worked further for encrypting the backups. The two founders left Facebook because at that time, they were asked to compromise the encryption.

I can't speak about iMessage as I don't know enough to make an informed opinion. However, I do know what Zuckerberg has done in the past and some things going on right now with FB. His assurances are a joke.
