A question for everyone. Is it really necessary for people to post "PM sent" in the thread? Wouldn't people who post in the thread be looking for Private Messages anyway, or at least discover that they got one? Once people are communicating privately, do the rest of us need to know about it?

I've always thought that was SPAM and to be honest, I know SPAM when I see it. :p

No offense, Im-to-hyper, but i don't know if i would vote on you to become a "marketplace mod"

you say you promote the rules, etc but yet you still dubble post and bump your threads :(

Wow! I stopped looking at this thread for awhile and came back to find it full of comments. I like devilot's idea of having a "PM reply only" system that would alow threads not to be bumped. (See AppleFritter's Trading Post area).

Also, their area is divided into two categories: WTB and FS.

Now, I wasn't nominating myself to be voted on, I don't wanna do anything that takes time, since I have none. I was saying people like me who are high-schoolers and Marketplace nerds. Secondly, I wasn't double posting in there, that was listewart, thank you very much, and only because my PM box was full, and I tend not to read PMs right away anyway.

Also, in my thread, I was changing that info on like a day-to-day basis. All I have sold as of yet is one Lombard, so I wasn't bumping, nor was I trying to move it to the top to get more posts. It appears to me that all my posts were nice, legit responses to people....

Who was it here that said....

the Marketplace is nothing but drama

Either way, the Marketplace may not be the "hub" of this site, per se, but because of the Marketplace I know of two people who have successfully been swayed away from the Windows World. I myself, still am there most of the time, sadly.

EDIT: Ah, how I enjoy the crazy jew's witty sarcasm. You are not from Wisconsin by chance are ya?

EDIT AGAIN: Found what you were talking about. A NEWBIE was bumping my thread to show support for it, and got a good lecture by someone in there, and my appreciation went to the lecturee.

ok, i get yout point. That's fine I guess. You would certainly make a better mod than some of those other marketplace fanatics. Again, i don't want us to have any hard feelings or anything :D, and yes, sub division of fourms sounds like a great idea.

I guess you're talking about this mad bastard. Well, if you head to Lake Michigan, then turn south and head in that direction for a few days (faster on camel) and then maybe go to the other side of the world quickly, you'll find me tapping away on MacRumors at the House Of Jew™. Of course, it's far too dry here for any sort of wit, sarcasm or otherwise...

well, I meant originally from there :p

Market Place

I was just wondering if you would consider putting the marketplace into two sections, 'USA' and the 'UK'. This would make it easier for people to find what they want in their own country as it avoids all of the shipping costs and makes it easier to work out the costs in your own currency.
All feedback would be apppreciated asthis is going to the 'MacRumors God'. Feel free to PM me

That's nice, but you're discounting the New Zealanders, the Australians, the Austrians, the Japanese, the Chinese, the Singaporeans, the Spanish, the French, the Swiss, the Italians...need I continue? :D

Pls do

The multi- section marketplace area would be too hard to police/ go thru each section to try find a product to buy

What would be ideal is a way to control all the choices through software. If vBulletin let you assign keywords to each thread, like "U.K" and "For Sale" and "Mac Hardware" and "No trades" and then subset it this way and that by keywords, date, thread starter, etc., everyone could look at it their own favorite way.

And having fine control over what shows up in the New Posts and forum display lists could solve a lot of problems as well.

Maybe it's a suitable job for the MRoogle development team!

We could separate it further by states and provinces but that would be silly.

Well, since you're in California, you shouldn't have to worry about anything but U.S. purchases, would you?

True, but i was thinking of the mods duties also .. I'm not saying i wanna be a mod but I know Mods' job is already hard enough with the current size of the entire site as it is .. im suggesting to keep the site tight but lower the bumping etc..

If the MarketPlace goes each state/country section then there'll alot more bumping threads then now ..

bousozoku: i was thinking of Mods' .. I'd hate to lose a mod to burn-out ..

I know. I was just accentuating my point.

Perhaps the mods would have more time to police the Marketplace if there weren't so many posts about restructuring it. Just a thought.

We all have our opinions. If somebody wants to post a suggestion, what's so bad about that?

I have thought of a new remodelling of the MarketPlace. Instead of having it so that it is split into countries, how about continents. This would still be easy to negotiate around and would also be useful.
Post your comments on the matter.

That's rather harsh. Did you have some intent with this post, other than to cause some bad feelings?

Yeah, I agree. I think they were just trying to say that this thread should be closed because the Marketplace is most likely not going to change...

But yeah, that was harsh rdowns.

marketplace seems to work pretty well so far, i mean i saw some people's point of complaint, but right now, it works quite okay

is there any need for people to post auctions in the marketplace, unless they're offering macrumors users a special incentive?

I guessing this was directed at this thread?: (not to point it out in particular, it was the first FA thread I've seen in there for a while)

To answer your question, no, it's not. Frankly eBay auctions fall into the category of 'Advertising'. If you want to plug your eBay auctions, ask arn to sell you some banner ads.

Or create a stickied thread dedicated to eBay auction links. I like that idea too :D

it wasn't directed at anything, i was just voicing an opinion, whether or not i was reminded of it by any particular thread.

and it totally degrades the marketplace in my opinion, just like you said. it's advertising.

i really do like your idea of a stickied thread though. no need to post more than one time, doesn't clutter up the marketplace. hopefully our dear deities will take a glance at that idea.

I know you would too if you put stuff on eBay, so don't target me buddy ;).

So (sorry V):
