I just got the CEO case today and I must say that I really like it. Before this I was using the belkin snap shield and a black leather smart cover, and I like the CEO over that combo. I never thought I would be a folio guy, but when it's in stand mode it is way more stable that the smart cover could ever be. I use the iPad mostly while in bed or sitting on the couch and the smart cover never worked in those situations. The CEO also seems to be a lot better protection that the above combo. It seems it would hold up better with a minor fall. I also ordered and received Toblino 2 today. It's nice (real leather) but seems more flimsy when in stand mode. I think the CEO will hold up better in the long wrong. I should also note that CEO fits inside my speck pixelsleeve (iPad 1) perfectly for those time I'm out traveling.

I just wanted to share my experience, and maybe this will help someone on the fence about the CEO. I should note I bought this from eBay new. There is a seller seems to have quite a few on hand, and including shipping it was under $30. Bought it Tuesday, shipped wednesday and it arrived from California to Missouri in 2 days. Ok I done rambling now.

Thank you for your feedback, I ordered the CEO and canceled my order of the Switcheasy Canvas yesterday. I was afraid of having any regret but the precedent feedbacks and yours convinced me. Can you tell me if you can have a pretty vertical stand with it? Because I also use my ipad 2 in my bed and it is an angle I would like to have. I the tapping mode comfortable and not too bouncy?

Many thanks

No problem. It can't do vertical, and after seeing how these types of folios are made I don't think it would be possible. I did try it, and it just falls over backwards. I busted out the protractor to give some more precise measurements. In the typing position its at roughly 10 degrees. First slot gives you about 40 degrees, and the second slot gives you right about 60 degrees. You can get a more vertical position by leaving the the ipad clipped in all four corners and folding the front cover to the back creating a triangle "^". The folio seems pretty sturdy in this position also, and would be perfectly fine for bed usage. I have to say that using it the proper way while on your lap absolutely provides the perfect angle. Hope this helps.

I have had mine for a week but had problems with one of the inside clasps. I was very frustrated with that and the outside clasps were a b**** to close. Marware sent me a replacement today and it works perfectly. Couldn't be happier.

Marware customer service is leaps and bounds better than Switcheasy. I'm going on my second week of waiting for my Switcheasy Canvas with no ETA.

Did u order direct from marware? I ordered off amazon, so I hope they will be equally good if my case has issues.

How good are the clasps on your new case? Does the iPad slip out easily?

Im thinking about pulling the trigger on this case today. My only concern is the cover closing mechanism. I read some reviews on Amazon that said it was a bitch to open and close. Anyone with this case have any input on this?

i've been using the ceo hybrid case for several weeks now. the easiest way to close the case is to push the bottom clasp in first, and then push in the top. to open, pop out the top clasp first and the bottom comes out easy. i also applied a little pressure to the top clasp to 'bend it out slightly' just a fraction.

i notice that slightly easier to do close it now than when i first got it. just a matter of breaking it in a little.

I ordered mine directly from Marware and paid too much for it in the end. The case is nice and the clasps on the new one work much better. Yeah, you still have to undo the bottom ones to change the viewing angle but it really isn't a big deal, at least to me. The clasps used to open and close the case on my first one were a PITA. The new one works much better in that regard too. All in all, pretty happy with the case. I'm still waiting for my Switcheasy Canvas to arrive but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Just got my CEO hybrid yesterday, and so far I like it better than the AYL folio case that's held me over until the Hybrid finally shipped. It's more solid and it's stable on my lap because the front cover does not have a crease for folding backwards (which I wouldn't want to do anyway, since it exposes the inside front cover to whatever surface I'm on).

My biggest concern was the annoyance of unhooking the corners and opening the case. When it first arrived, it was quite annoying. So, I just used needle-nose pliers (wrapped in a t-shirt for protection) to slowly bend back the corners, and it worked perfectly. Now I still have great corner protection, and it's no effort at all to prop it up in landscape mode.

I do still prefer the simple single clasp of the AYL case for opening/closing, but in almost every other way the Hybrid is just better thought-out. Little things about it add up to a great case for me, like the long right edge in the front that provides a great grip. After loosening the clasps a bit, I can open it with one hand by just pulling at the top clasp, and the bottom one easily opens after.

About to order one of these cases from Play.com for the hand strap. Any chance someone could post a pic of them holding the case using the strap? Wondering how sturdy the case feels when holding it that way considering the strap is on the flap.

Thanks in advance!

I just received my marware case!! I removed m switcheasy canvas and I am going to work with the new guy. So far my decision is split between the two... But I will continue to play with my new toy

Did you ever decide which you liked better, ceo or canvas. I have had the ceo for a couple weeks now and really like but also just ordered the canvas just to try something else out.

Yeah I think so. Unless I have a huge change of heart this week I'm going to return the canvas and keep the CEO hybrid. It's a really tough decision though, because they both have their pluses and minus. Ultimately the thing that swayed me to the CEO is the extra thinness. The iPad 2 is designed to be thin, so I wanna keep it that way as much as possible.

I will discuss my pro's and con's of the ceo hybrid compared to the switcheasy canvas.

CEO hybrid - Pros
  • Thinner design- again this is what was the deciding factor for me. It's maybe only a couple mm thinner, but remember the iPad 2 is only about 4mm thinner than the original. This is especially noticable when opened in book form. The switcheasy has more protection with it's hardcover case, but I think it is a bit overkill and unnecessary. I'm going to treat my iPad with care regardless.
  • lighter- not a whole lot, but I can notice it, and every ounce is meaningful
  • all landscape positions are on one side- meaning I don't ever need to flip my iPad 180 to switch between viewing and typing positions. The switcheasy needs to flip back and forth, but I would just tend to get lazy and try to type on a viewing postion or just keep it at the low typing position.
  • handstrap- probably my second favorite aspect of this case. It feels comfortable to leave my hand in there to hold it. I do have a concern that it will stretch out over time and "droop". It droops after each extended use, but thus far has always gone back to a tightened position eventually
  • preferred viewing angles- All 3 of the switcheasy viewing angles are pretty upright. In fact I don't think I every used the 2 most upright positions the couple weeks I used it. IMO the CEO hybrid has the right 3 positions for movie watching, browsing, and typing.

cons
  • The corner clasps- it takes considerable more effort to pop out the corners for stand positions compared to the velcro of the switcheasy. I've been trying to work them out, but so far haven't changed much. not a huge turnoff because I don't tend to do it much anymore, and when I do it's only a minor inconvenience. The velcro is superior, but causes extra bulk which is bad (or involves desecrating the iPad with velcro which is also bad)
  • The closing clasps- Ok, the clasp on the canvas was really hard to close and annoying at first, but now I think I actually prefer it to the CEO hybrid. I think it was the combination of break-in and technique adjustment (on the canvas I press my thumb a couple inches from the edge and slide out. It closes easily with this method). The CEO hybrid has a clasp on the top edge and the bottom edge. Whenever I close the case one of the clasps usually closes (usually the top one), then I need to check the other one and close it. But I never know which one (if any) actually clasp properly so every time I close it I need to check each individually and close each appropriately. When I close the canvas, its closed. But this one needs some fiddling to make sure it's closed all the way. I wish it would incorporate stronger magnets (a la smart cover) and not need any kind of clasp.
  • unstable stand positions- the grooves are deep, but this iPad 2 has some curvy edges... On a table the stand works great, but on a lap with some moving around it can pop out fairly easily. That's a great thing about the Canvas. The hard cover case has feet on it that keep it stable. Although where the CEO tends to fall down, the canvas tends to fall "up" (because the crease on the back tries to move flat). Also, the CEO typing position has some bounce to it, which is a bit of a turn off.
  • smudges- the shiny cover keeps fingerprints and smudges easier than the canvas, although my canvas has started to acquire some fingerprints. These can rub off, but it's not worth it to get fingerprints on it again 5 seconds later. Just a minor cosmedic annoyance
  • not versatile- this isn't really a con of the CEO hybrid so much as a pro of the canvas. With the canvas, in addition to the 3 viewing postions you can create a bunch of alternative positions due to the flap having a crease. I have created 3 typing positions and an alternative viewing position. Additionally you can easily take pictures while holding the iPad in one hand

So there you have it. Of course a lot of that is just subjective opinion. In all both cases are great, and I could honestly use either. In an ideal world, I would want a CEO hybrid-like case but with strong magnets to hold it closed, a more canvas-like material to repel fingerprints, and easier to pop out corners.

Edit: sigh. After thinking about everything some more, now I'm back at undecided. :p but all my points above are still valid

Incredible there is a thread about the exact case I have! Wow. I got the CEO Hybrid right after I got my new 'pad2. I love the fact that is is so tight fitting and thin. It still fits in most of the places an iPad would fit without a case (stands etc). I like the handstrap as well.

Would resellers sell cheaper than direct? I have no idea if this is a reseller or not, but I got mine here:

i'm torn between the maroo (or cyber acoustics) and this CEO - i really want the hand strap which both have. the CEO is lighter and a bit slimmer i think (can anyone confirm?). One question i have is how does this look folded 'magazine style' ie flat - i haven't seen any pictures of the cover flipped completely around and using the strap. also is the back hard plastic or a bit rubbery / grippy?

thanks so much!

It lies completely flat when folded back. I think the back has hard plastic in it (its rigid) but the inner material is microfiber and the outer is a soft nice feeling faux carbon fiber material. Check out youtube, there is a video review of it and includes using the hand strap.

thanks for the very quick response - i just found the video - don't know how i missed it the first time thru! i guess i'm down to this one or the cyber acoustics!

Well, I got both the maroo roto and the CEO. Got the maroo first- super fast ship-2 days to Chicago. Beautiful leather and workmanship, but it is a bit bulky. However you can say good protection. Then I printed out amazon listing for CEO at $27 and went to Abt. They matched the price and I walked out with it. My take:
Maroo $40
Looks great, professional.
Soft leather
Nice interior
Like the sleeve inside
Easy to get iPad in out, yet secure
A bit bulky - but as above that also means good protection
Holding in left hand you must flip to get hand strap on outer side which is more comfortable for me. Not much of an issue but is upside down

CEO $27
Slimmer lines, profile. Eg sleeker looking
Nice interior
2.5 ounces lighter than maroo
Looks great
Tough to close, kinda diminishes the sleep wake aspect.
Popping out the left side is not too bad
Hand strap is better than maroo...better placement and is tighter

All in all, both are very nice. Maroo would be perfect for that professional who throws it in his/ her briefcase and wants the extra protection. CEO kinda retains the iPad sleekness, but of course you give up the protection of the maroo.

If the CEO closed/ opened easier it'd be the perfect case for me. I'm trying to bend them a bit as a PP above did with the inner tabs. I've pretty much made my mind for the CEO, though a tough decision.

I wasn't sure weather to choose between the maroo or the yoobao cases until I saw the CEO on an iPad 1. I tried it for a while and I absolutely loved it. I purchased it for my iPad 2 and I do not regret my decision as this is a great case. It really protects the iPad, keeps it slim, and is pretty tough.

The design looks excellent and the hand strap is really good too. It is a little hard to close but it's not that bad. And to be honest I'd rather have a case that is properly closed than a case that keeps opening all the time.

Any updates on this case after long term use?

Do the two tabs that you pop in and out to change the viewing angles get loose over time and if so does the iPad still stay in the case securely?

I've read that some people have a hard time closing the case while others didn't. Do the tabs holding the front cover on get worn where the cover doesn't stay snapped to the iPad?

Thanks!

Just got my CEO case moments ago in the mail. Marware even included a free set of ear buds (don't look to be the best quality but still a nice gesture).

Fit is real nice, sleep/wake works fine with no issues when folded back like a book. Stand positions are very stable with the grooves being semi deep to prevent the iPad from falling out. When you put the iPad in stand mode it does expose the back of the device.

I need a scale to weigh my cases but it seems a hair lighter than my SwitchEasy Canvas but it is slimmer. In comparison if you took the back canvas piece off the SwitchEasy but left everything else in tact that's how thick it is.

I'll try shooting a video tonight if I can, otherwise I'll have something posted by tomorrow on my channel.

Oh, one other thing... The exterior is nice, a faux carbon look but feels good in the hand. I did notice one blemish on it but nothing major.
Wow your metagamers?? Your reviews are amazing!

Mine was one of the first shipped and still functions as it did when I received it. The corner tabs and the front cover latches are still as they were when I got it, even after the heavy use I put this case through. It's in and out of my bag several times a day along with flipping it open and closed probably 15-20 times a day. I haven't seen any durability issues as my case still looks like new. Two best features of this case for me is the protection and that it disguises the iPad where it looks like i'm carrying a folio around at work.

Thank you. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Just ordered one nice and inexpensive from Amazon :)
