Wait...Apple finally simplifies their laptop line up by getting rid of the macbook & keeping the macbook Air..only to confuse their ipad line up with a 10.2” AND a 10.5” regular ipad?? Lol. Why Apple? Why?

You can get a brand new MacBook 15” 2017 for £1700 or the 2018 for £1800 on eBay from reputable sellers.
Or I can spend that amount on a brand new laptop that is more expandable, faster, higher resolution and isn't based on 4 year old technology

If you don’t want/need MacOS, you can definitely save money buying a PC. It’s been that way for decades.

Apple has already priced me out of the market :(

I opted for a Lenovo X1E,

Likewise. I also bought a Lenovo last December. Absolutely fantastic machine with a great keyboard. Apple's lineup costs too much for what one gets; there are quality products for a substantially lower price out there.

Between Windows and Macs, at the end of the day it's the preference.
For example, deep down I know that I can get more bang for my buck buying a Windows machine, but I choose Mac due to it being designed beautifully, the Apple Ecosystem integrated so well, and the inner belief that my Mac would last me years upon years compared to a Windows machine (still using my early 2013 MBPr)

macOS is still the king

King of what, exactly?

Windows has a bad reputation, for sure, but that's in the past; Windows 10 now is nice... It works well and runs fast. If that doesn't suit your needs you can use Linux, which also has a large selection of software (albeit nothing like Adobe Premier, etc.). I've personally never really liked macOS but even if I did, I think the price gap between quality Windows-based machines and Apple's is getting large enough that it's a viable consideration to switch platforms. The truth is that the majority of machines out here run Windows and yet the world has not exploded; so this whole "hours fixing software glitches", "malware", "viruses," thing is probably a little overblown.

macOS is still the king of the operating systems, less bugs, less errors, user-friendlier, fastest updates, best and most neat looking, most secure, they last years, if not decades, without slowing down compared to the clusters***k that are the older windows machines, no stupid bluetooth connectivity errors and the list goes on...

macOS is still easily the king.

PS: you said you never really liked macOS, I wonder if it is because you didn't give it enough time when switching from windows, as speaking from my own experience it takes awhile to get use to, however once you do, you will never wanna go back to Windows.

Most of the things you've listed are subjective. I have had substantially fewer bugs with Windows 10 than macOS. Of course I will absolutely agree that macOS is more user friendly. However, I'm not sure the whole "last decades" really applies, that seems more like hardware than OS. Certainly Apple's products do not last decades from an operating system perspective because Apple routinely drops support for older operating systems (and eventually older hardware).

As for slowing down, I think that's mostly because people install crap on their systems. I keep all of my machines (whether Windows or Mac) running lean and Windows 10 runs faster on the same hardware than Windows 7, for me.

I used macOS for almost 15 years and only recently switched back to Windows 6 months ago. I definitely gave it enough time. It works for you and many others, which is great. For me, it didn't really fit and the price increases are enough to put me off future Mac hardware. If Apple realigns their pricing a bit I'll re-consider. Until then I'm using Linux where I can and Windows where Linux won't run.

You can get a brand new MacBook Air for $1,200. Not sure why you think Mac is “1%”. Really should not take avg person 5 years to save for that

For $1,200 you get an outdated computer with specs from 2012, a horrible keyboard you can barely type, and a non upgradable computer that has turned into a disposable appliance.

mass production of a new 16-inch MacBook Pro in the fourth quarter of this year

So the thing is, there won't be new suitable Intel chips by then.

Comet Lake H likely won't come until Q2 2020. Apple might do some minor speedbumps like starting at the 9850H instead of 8850H, but that hardly seems worth the effort.

Based on that, as much as I'd like this to be true, it seems sketchy.

Honestly, at this point, I truly believe that 11" is the best size for a portable tablet. I would be happy with a slightly bigger display if they made the bezels smaller -Although current bezels are ok, but we all know how this works- or a smaller overall size retaining 10,8 inches at least. So, honestly, I don't see the point in adding a new size to the equation.

The 10,2" with Pro bezels could be a good move just to replace the regular iPad, tho. But I suspect it wouldn't be the cheap iPad anymore...

10.2"? How many g-d different sizes is Apple going to **** out? 12.9, 10.5, 9.7, 7.9 and now 10.2. Why not add 11.65 and 12.376 and 8.9999451 while they're at it?
I think the available sizes are being driven by the available display panels, minus as much bezel as the design team can manage.

I wonder what Steve Jobs would think of what his Apple has become under Tim Cook.
Go watch Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview. We've been here before under Sculley/Amelio, and Jobs laid out the problems with putting CEOs in charge of a company that aren't product-focused. Then he went and left Cook in charge...

Today's release has me wanting to upgrade my laptop but... the 16" model has me kinda hanging around.

The recent Apple cycle:
  1. Be smart and spend 3 years saving up a ton of money for a new MacBook Pro so that by the time your current one is obsolete, you can afford a new one
  2. However, new MacBook Pro turns out to be terrible, with unusable keyboard, and the last good one is the one you already own and is obsolete
  3. Hold off on buying new MacBook Pro, wait for redesign
  4. Redesign costs more, you don't have enough money
  5. Save up for another year
  6. MacBook Pro price increases again, not enough money
  7. ...
I don't know how regular people are affording the current one, let alone the probably even more expensive redesign. I mean Macs have always been more expensive than other brands, but regular not-so-well-off people like students and artists could still afford them. Now you'd have to be some kind of top 1% millionaire rich person to buy a Mac, especially if you factor in that you'll have to keep spending a lot of money on getting it repaired (which usually means replaced since these things are only designed to break, but not to be repaired).

I don't get why prices aren't going down. Tech is becoming more affordable over time, yet prices are going up. Why?

I just want a fast laptop that runs macOS. I don't need a touch bar, I don't need TouchID or FaceID, I don't need it to be super mega thin, and I sure as hell don't need it to have a dead keyboard. Keep the price reasonable and let normal people continue to use Macs.

Honestly, I think the best bet is to buy a loaded up same as current year refurb device and hold on to it for 7 years. If you can afford it, throw AppleCare+ on it as well to get you by. This way you save a few bucks and get a beefy machine to hold you over for a while. a MBP and iMac can last longer than 7 years easy, however, you won't get a new OS after 7 years.

If you are buying a new MBP or iMac every 2 or 3 years, you are doing it wrong unless you are selling your old machine at a healthy Apple level profit.

the current iPad line is quite messy. my humble suggestion:
iPad Pro (12.9" only), iPad Air 10.5" and iPad mini 7.9"

didn't they just upgrade the iPad?

No, that was the iPad mini and Air.

This is the (separate) 7th-generation iPad, the predecessor of which was introduced in March 2018.

There's currently a 9.7-inch iPad, a 7.9-inch mini, a 10.5-inch Air, and then the 11-inch and 12.9-inch Pro.

Normal people don't think like that. They just buy a Mac when they need it, keep it for 5-10 years, and then upgrade.
