3,072×1,920 pixels would be such a disappointment.

Most "pro" users I know run at 1920x1200 resolution on a 15" MBP. The logical next step would be a pixel doubled version of that. 3072x1920 misses the mark, and is well behind what the competition has had for a long time now.
 
Normal people don't think like that. They just buy a Mac when they need it, keep it for 5-10 years, and then upgrade.

"Normal" (as in average) people can't even afford a Mac. I have an average wage but affording a Mac has always been important to me, so I always saved up. But today, even after saving up, I can't afford the configurations that I would need for the work I do. The ones that I can afford are too slow, and other than "I prefer Macs" there isn't much justification for me to keep buying them. I also prefer Ferraris but that doesn't mean I should be able to afford one. However, as opposed to Ferraris, Macs used to be much more affordable in the past.
