So my Watch was on the OS 2 GM for the past few weeks. Today I got a 12.5 software update that I assume was to patch the critical bug that delayed the OS 2 release to the public. I never have less than 40% battery left when I go to be (between 11pm-12am est). However, after updating there seems to be something causing massive battery drain as I got an alert that I was down to 10% at 7:55pm and by 8pm I was down to 6%. Anyone else experiencing the same problem and if you are do you have a fix?

Alright. I hate having to do that because for some reason
Yeah, I'm getting this too. Looked down an hour ago and saw 10%. I had to do a double take, my watch never gets that low, even after wearing it all day

I've had my Watch since launch and today was the first time I've ever gotten an alert for being as low as 10%.

Sadly, you are probably going to need to unpair and then re-pair. It will fix your problem with battery drain. Do a full back encrypted and when you setup again, it will ask to restore from today.

How do you do that? Back up my phone to iTunes? Not sure how to back up the watch. Kinda afraid of losing my perfect activity (140+ days).

Correct, you backup Itunes WITH encryption so that it backs up all the health, etc information. I backed up local to make it fast. It works... unpair/re-pair watch and during the re-pair it will ask for the backup you just did for the restore.

Oh, do this before you unpair and re-pair. Make sure the activity app on your phone has all recent updates from your watch. I had to re-pair mine and it was way behind for the day. Now, I have to stay up late to get the stand numbers to keep my streak of 75 days going. :(

Thanks! And that sucks, the achievements are addicting. I'm also trying to keep up my streaks.

I started the morning around 8am at 100%. Saw that Watch OS2 had been posted so did the upgrade, played around with trying out stuff and now 9-1/2 hours later (2-1/2 hours usage), I'm at 37%. That might be lower than I've had before so will keep an eye on it tonight. Appreciate the thread and alerting me that some are experiencing a significant drop. So far my Software Status Issue (said 1.0.1 after upgrading) and No Sign of Activation Lock have been resolved without needing to reboot.

Yea - It wasn't like I failed to check, but after the update, the rings weren't updating to the phone no matter what I did. Battery was draining fast, nothing was working. I eventually did an encrypted backup and unpaired and re-paired the watch and during the setup, you will get the backup listed on your watch screen. That will get everything up to the point of the backup. It does work. My other rings were done, but the stand went from 11 back to 8 so I will be up a little later. :)

That's what I'm planning on doing. I've done it before because I had complications that wouldn't update. It's not difficult to do, it just takes time for the whole process.

I had to do it for this update as it messed up my battery. From start to finish it wasn't more than 20 minutes for me.

I just updated to watchOS 2. So far I'm seeing average battery drain in my opinion. The past hour has only seen a 5% drop and yes .. I've actually been using the watch installing apps and testing out the new features. Later today I'm going to remove my iOS public beta profiles from my iPhone and iPad and I'm thinking I should just do the
un-pair/re-pair method while I'm at it. Guess it doesn't hurt to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the advice! I'm also experiencing the crazy battery drain on OS 2. I'll have to do this tomorrow when I'm at home.

Having the same problem too. Did Apple even test this update?

Mine hasn't even synced any of this day's activity yet. Guessing that's another bug thanks to Apple's ****** testing. Looks like I'm going to lose 60 minutes of exercise, meeting my move goal and there aren't enough hours left in the day to meet the stand goal.

Battery drain was crazy for me as well, on the first charge after update was 100% then half a day and it died, I use to go a full day and have 20% even with a workout.

The worse part is so far the things that changed I don't even use, turned off nightstand, would turn off time travel or whatever, heart rate actually seems less accurate, and don't use any of the new faces.

I'll see after day 2, maybe it was doing things behind the scenes causing the battery to drain, could even be WiFi issues, If it's still bad after day 2, I guess I'll re-pair it.

Well update on my situation. At 11:45p I was down to 9%. Watch app says I had 3 hrs, 59 min usage; 12 hrs., 30 min standby (16.5 hours total). When I first got my phone I was going from 8am to midnight with 48% left. One day from 6:45a to 11:20p with 27%. That was a typical range of times and percentage ranges with various activities during the day. I've got the watch on the charger now and will see where I stand tomorrow and follow it throughout the day before rebooting.

My battery life was great on the WatchOS 2 GM but has been terrible since I updated to the official release yesterday.

I've tried restarting both the watch and my iPhone several times. I've also unpaired and restored from a backup. The only thing left to try is setting it up as new, but I don't want to lose any of my health data.

EDIT: I just set it up as new and all of my activity information is still stored on my iPhone. If the battery life goes back to normal, I may just roll with this. I didn't have much configured on the watch itself.

Yeah, I'm also dealing with the exact same thing. I had been ending my day with like 70% charge. Updated from GM to whatever the F they released yesterday and in a couple of hours was at 10%. Today I just put it on a little while ago and I'm at 66% from a full charge. Time to try the unpair/repair I suppose.

I'm wondering if it's from one of the watchOS 2 app updates I installed going insane trying to keep its info updated or something. Who knows.

Put my watch on this morning about 6:45am, by 4pm it was dead! Watched the battery draining so fast today for no apparent reason! Hope a full recharge will sort it out! Not a good start for WatchOS2 for me!

I was also on the GM and no battery issues. Updated yesterday, and then today at 3pm my watch alerted me it was at 10%. Never seen this before. I've done a hard reset and will see if this makes any difference before unpairing as a last resort....
