I want Apple Pay to succeed. Then it will help validate and increase adoption of Google Wallet, Softcard and whatever thing Paypal has planned. The sooner we get there, the better. What's the point of NFC if you can't pay with your phone. All other uses for NFC are just gimmicks.

The real priceless surprize is when you find out Apple sold iAds based on your personal information.

Source for this?

I know Apple has iAds, though I've NEVER seen a single one, and you have the option to turn off targetted iAds, but AFAIK, it's based only on your location.

Seeing as they claim they know nothing about your purchases, I don't see how they could target iAds at you based on that.

"Apple Pay? Big whoop, Google Wallet came first." ;)

Add it to the list of things they didn't invent, like tablets, mp3 players and the mouse.

Secondly, let's see what Google announce at I/O 2015. I have a feeling Google Wallet might get mentioned.

They just perfected it! That's a big wop!!;)

Why would Google Wallet be mentioned at I/O 2015? It has been an active system since 2011. Apple is just joining in on NFC purchases. Google has been there for three years so far.

Waiting for Discover Card to be added. Supposedly Apple and Discover were talking about this before the Apple Pay announcement in September, but if that is true, nothing has come of it yet.

I hope you'll forgive me if I'm a little pessimistic about Apple Pay. No doubt it'll be big -- I just sincerely hope nothing goes wrong as that would be disastrous.

"It'll be big" is your pessimistic view? What is your optimistic view?

I just hope terrorists don't hack the iPhone and use it to buy a nuke from the Russian mob and launch an attack on China and then blame it on the U. S. That would truly be a bad day for AAPL

I sent Discover a message asking them to support Apple Pay. Everyone should do this. Show them that we want it.

t's essentially the same process -- except your phone is your card and your pin is your fingerprint.

And I'm essentially the same as a unicorn except that unicorns have horns and wings.

Chip and pin is slower (not hugely, but still 2 steps compared to 1-step wave with thumb on TouchID ) and has not stopped fraud in Europe. I'll bet you right now that after 1 year, there will essentially zero TouchID Apple Pay fraudulent charges, short of some Weekend At Bernie's carrying around a dead body situation.

Success for Apple Pay is good for Google Wallet (which hasn't seen huge adoption so far).

Google Wallet has certain advantages over Apple Pay (it currently supports cards from more banks, and it supports more different devices), so when Android users see Apple Pay promoted and used, they may look to see what's available for them and Google Wallet will likely be there.

Apple Pay has its own advantages. It's a bit more convenient, it's a bit more secure, and it doesn't have to be financially involved in the transaction details, other than taking its small cut from the bank (which the bank is happy to pay, as they will save much more due to the reduction of fraud).

Both companies will highlight their advantages in advertising, and they'll both work to improve their systems to reduce the others' advantage (and to keep upstarts from stealing their thunder).

All of that is good for the consumer, and the banks, and the merchants, and Apple and Google.

The 'pessimistic view' is everything I said before 'that's my pessimistic view', not afterwards.

Right.

So Apply Pay rolls out yesterday, but the commercials aired during last night's game showed people winning prizes just hours later.

Some believe it, I suppose...

They have had this "Priceless Suprises" with using your MasterCard for a while they are now just starting to highlight Apple Pay as a way to use your MasterCard

It's Advertisement, what did you expect, hard data?
It's no different than showing that your family and life is going to be great if you buy a specific car/tool/food.

There was a story about it right here on this site:

"A previous report from Digiday, described as being "pretty accurate" by Bank Innovation sources, claims Apple plans to monetize its mobile payment system by integrating iAds with Apple Pay. This iAds portion of the loyalty system allegedly will use iBeacons and Bluetooth LE to push targeted ads with a "tap-to-buy" button to customers while they are visiting a participating merchant."

They know your location, the merchant you're using, the card you're using and many more details. Try taking your head out of the sand and you'll see stuff that's right in front of your nose.

While I don't deny that what you say is possible, you can't base an argument on a Digiday article and feed it as a matter of fact.

You missed this one:
3) hope a thief doesn't see your pin, then lifts your wallet and go spending while you are unaware it is missing

If we are looking at silly examples ....

4) hope the thief does not cut off your finger and take your phone ....

----------

They just perfected it! That's a big wop!!;)

Give it a few weeks in the wild and let's see how perfect it is.

That is all. ;0)

4b) hope that the thief does not have natural ESP skills and convinces you to be his minion, paying for everything he wants you to.

"MasterCard, Visa, and American Express have all signed onto the program, as have over 500 banks and a number of major retailers. Launching first in the United States, Apple Pay is now accepted at over 200,000 points of sale and the cards and banks responsible for the vast majority of U.S. credit card spending are compatible with the service."

IN YOUR DREAMS!!

I can't put my cards in! :(

Why is MasterCard advertising ApplePay when it isn't up to them, it's up to the individual financial institutions that issue the cards?? ...I have a MC, but, can't put it in because of the bank.

'Priceless surprise' indeed.

"Hey, keep all of your financial details on a smartphone that can't even keep a stable wifi signal."

I hope you'll forgive me if I'm a little pessimistic about Apple Pay. No doubt it'll be big -- I just sincerely hope nothing goes wrong as that would be disastrous.

This +++. I was initally skeptical of Apple Pay and was blasted in the comment sections as being misinformed and out-of-touch.

We see through the PR spin that Apple Pay is 100% secure in theory. Even many large retailers are also reluctant to go all-in with it. (And they have IT experts/analysts who are much more qualified at vetting the Apple Pay business model and risks than I am.)

So I will hold off a little longer...

I sent Discover a message asking them to support Apple Pay. Everyone should do this. Show them that we want it.

I just sent one as well. I use my discover for almost all of my everyday purchases. Would love to keep doing so.

Using Apple Pay with iAd
If you tap a “Buy with Apple Pay” button in an iAd, your interactions with the ad, such as whether you completed a purchase or not, are included anonymously in the ad campaign data that’s shared with the advertiser and can’t be tied back to you.

I'd rather trust Apple directly than some random site on the internet.
