As a Kansas City native who has never seen their home team on the big stage, I have to say that watching that commercial was extremely weird but amazing. Seeing Kauffman featured in a national commercial with all the Royals fans, the legendary George Brett, it all just takes me back to my childhood at the ballpark. There were so many games that I went to every summer with my family and friends, and the Royals almost always lost. But this postseason has been a blast! Even with the loss last night, I'm so proud they're even in it considering how little money they have to spend on talent. I was an infant the last time they were in the World Series, and my daughter is nearly the same exact age that I was.

I just can't even right now.

This +++. I was initally skeptical of Apple Pay and was blasted in the comment sections as being misinformed and out-of-touch.

We see through the PR spin that Apple Pay is 100% secure in theory. Even many large retailers are also reluctant to go all-in with it. (And they have IT experts/analysts who are much more qualified at vetting the Apple Pay business model and risks than I am.)

So I will hold off a little longer...

It's based solely on your location and only if you are in participating stores. No other identifiable information is involved in the transaction.

It is awesome to see isn't it? I love our Royals and so proud of what they've accomplished this postseason. I wonder what the transaction rate of Apple Pay was last night at Kauffman.

Well in the rest of the world (not America), we have this great thing called 'chip and pin'. And it's everywhere.

That's what we have in Canada but we also have Tap-to-Pay which is limited to $100 per transaction. No pin required and it's way faster....Apple pay is more like that, just secure.

I'm looking forward to carrying minimal cards in my minimalist wallet.

Those without foresight will continue to be blind to the advantages.

Your username makes sense for you.

Apple rolls out Apple Pay adds for the World Series and the local team (Giants) is in it. Coincidence?

While I'm sure Apple Pay is good for retail purchase, I do not see it completely replacing physical credit cards. IMO, card swipe readers will still be around for a long, long time.

You missed this one:

3) when typing in your pin, be sure to mouth the numbers aloud, then turn to grin at the person behind you. Perhaps you can give the potential thief a little wink as well, then put your wallet back in an unzipped, loose back pocket, and pat it obviously to show where you keep all your cash and cards.

Um, lots of people say their pin number under their breath as they type it, and 99.999% of people don't have back pockets that zip up. As for needing to pat your wallet to let someone know that's where you keep your cash and cards, chances are, someone would know that since, you know, it's a WALLET.

So the steps are:

1) take out your card
2) put your card in and type in your pin

I appreciate Apple Pay will be great across the pond, but it's essentially the same process -- except your phone is your card and your pin is your fingerprint. And as iOS 8 was a steaming buggy pile I'm sure you can grant me a little cynicism.

I live in America, and 2 of my cards are chip and PIN. Have you seen how long a chip & PIN transaction takes at Walmart? Now compare that to Apple Pay

Apple pay is the biggest reason why i will go back to Iphones. I had returned my iphone 6 after having it for few days after launch day. Me being in Canada dont have access to Apple Pay yet.
Apple really should have found a way to deal directly with VISA, MC etc instead of credit card issuing banks so that apple could have launched globally.

Agreed. I have 1 card that has a chip in it, and whenever I go to Canada, I need to slide the card into the machine, leave it in there for the entire transaction and then I can take it out. Much slower than the swipe method I'm used to here in the US. Apple Pay is much quicker than either one.

Absolutely!

Though I support Apple Pay. I don't care if it is Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Microsoft ***, Blackberry ***, or what ever. They can all co-exist and feed each other.

Today when I travel on vacation, my wife and I carry opposite cards so if either of us lose or have our wallet stolen we only have to cancel half our cards.

With the Apple Pay future (not here yet), we each will carry one low credit limit card for the retail hold outs and our phone loaded with our main cards. Lose a phone and cancel nothing but the phone.

A great future indeed!

That long long time will be the end of 2015 when the laws will force all retailers to upgrade their systems:cool:

That's not how Visa and MasterCard credit cards work though.

What MC and Visa do is handle the transaction between the merchant's and issuer's banks. The banks handle the money. AmEx and Discover do both, but they're not the most popular.

i'm a pirates fan but i'd have hugged george brett too, he was the man back in the 70s/80s!!
my debit card won't work yet. hoping citizens bank get in soon. i was with AT&T for like 20 years and yet they would do nothing to come close to the sprint deal. so i jumped ship. i have gotten every bit as good service from sprint for about $30 bucks less per month!

Yes. It will take thousands of years for them to decompose in the landfill.

Glad to see it's actually happening, not that I'm a fan of those annoying "rewards" ads. I've never even heard of anyone using Google's version, whatever it's called.

----------

The real priceless surprize is when you find out Apple sold iAds based on your personal information.

What makes you think they'll do that? iAd targeting is only location-based (which you can and should disable).

It's called Google Wallet, and people with NFC-compatible Android devices have been using it since 2011. The problem is NFC-capable P.O.S. stations only exist in a small handful of stores and retail outlets, so the tech hasn't been widely adopted in the US.

I sent Discover a message asking them to support Apple Pay. Everyone should do this. Show them that we want it.

I will do this too. How did you contact them? With this sort of thing in big companies it's important to get your message to the right department.

I'm a lifelong NL (and frustrated Dodgers) fan but this year I am rooting for an AL team to win the Series for the first time.

At least you have good beer there

That might have been true 30 years ago, but there's certainly no shortage of great beer in the U.S. these days.

Oh, how this topic has drifted.

"On its Priceless Surprises website, MasterCard notes it has surprised over 70,000 cardholders with various rewards, and now Apple Pay gives users more ways to win."

lol so they admit credit cards are like gambling

It seems MasterCard assumed the Dodgers would make the world series.

So did I :(

You didn't want the Tigers to beat the Giants? For shame!

I'd like to see a real baseball fan buying their typical beers and food then pay with their iPhone.
Chili & cheese iPhone anyone?
