My New Macbook (2.4 Unibody) is Glassy....haha, and i have had a matte PC notebook and i must say i love the glassy.

could be it be the LCD screen that i love so much?

The glare doesnt bug me when I am looking at a screen that shows colors in true.

Do you think that I am always using my portable computer in a place where I can control the lighting conditions?
I have no idea... I don't know you or what you do. However, I know that I'm not only using mine in places where I can control the lighting conditions.

my MacBook Air goes with me almost everywhere so I use it in the sun, near windows, in darker rooms, etc.
Awesome.

I didn't pay multiple thousand dollars for a mirror.
Yeah...neither did I. Apple sent you a mirror?? That sucks.
What I paid for is a nice laptop, and that's what I got...
A very nice laptop with the nicest screen I've ever used.

What you can control is the direction you face your laptop...and also your screen's angle. If you can't make it work for you, and if it really causes you THAT much pain, then I don't think the laptop is at fault.

Like I said before, I also use mine in various places with various lighting conditions... although I can't say that I use my computer out "in the sun" like you...Do many people do that?

I just hate to see people get discouraged about anything by haters...especially when there are many fans of that thing.
Not every screen type is for every person. Check them all out and find out what is best for YOU.
If I used my laptop outside in the sun a lot, then it might be a problem.
Since I consider the outside as being for outdoor activities, reflections are not a problem for me.

I find that the glass screen makes the image quality delicious...
MMMmmmmm it looks so sexxxy.

You know, I just love it when people pick apart other people's posts and only quote that which is convenient for them to argue. It seems quite obvious to me that you are not one who will see my points and I am not one that will see yours, especially considering you have a bit of selective hearing. But alas, I have come to my conclusions after a lot of actual usage of the computers. I use all of the screen selections regularly and am not a hater as you seem to want to portray me as. I actually use the MacBook Air the most out of all of my computers and it has a glossy screen.

I'm not here to argue. The only reason I showed your post any attention is because you did such a bold thing as to describe the glassy screen as "an absolutely terrible experience each time."

Maybe you ignored the part of my post where I said that I too use my glassy screen in various environments, yet, I have NO problem with any occasional, slight reflections.
You said yourself that you use yours "in the sun." That isn't normal. Most people don't do that. Therefor, that is a non-issue for most people.

My goal is to simply counteract all the hate posts against glassy screens, and to try and offer something other than a negative, defeatist-like review.
The fact is that, like the matte screen, the glassy screen is an incredible looking screen. Whether or not someone uses in environments that would cause reflections, the severity of those reflections, and whether or not the user cares, is up to the individual.

NickM: chillax. No one's hating on the glassy..just voicing their dislike for it. I prefer the matte and if I had a choice between the two would never pick the glassy..but I don't hate it. And not that I think it's a crap screen..sure it's good but fact of the matter is the reflections and glare bother me despite best efforts to mitigate them.

it's just personal preference so relax guys.

I understand, man. I am very chillaxed, I promise.
When someone says something like, "the glassy screen is an absolutely terrible experience each time I use it," I consider that hating on the thing. If there are people out there researching because they are in the market, and there are, I hate to think of them getting discouraged by such comments...especially when I find every single one of my experiences with the glassy screen to be absolutely beautiful. I'm just speaking up for the screen that can't speak for itself ;)

I voted for matte,it is so much better..glassy and/or glossy looks good, but when you have to take your laptop everywhere it is hard thing..
I wanted to buy a macbook 13.3 or macbook pro15..but with glossy/glassy..no way..I'll wait..

you should get the 17" with the matte option. also there is a website that will replace you glassy screen with a matte screen. i cant remember the name of it tho. does anyone else know what it is?

As you can see by my sig I have a 17' laptop...and it's def not worth it,it's too big, when it comes to work in catia v5 it is awesome but for the rest of my life it is awfull.
And pricewise the macbook pro 17' is very "spicy".
I think apple should have matte screens as options, not users having to take the laptop to 3rdies and that kind of stuff..

to tell you the truth i really wish they did too. then we wouldnt be having all these arguments hahaha. ppl trying to convince one another that his/her opinion is wrong. its just silly but fun at the same time i guess.

the reality is that they dont, but there are options out there for ppl. maybe its not fair but they are there.

Matte is my favorite, even though I didn't use it for long. It was better in most situations, but in direct sunlight, the GlassBook Pro does surprisingly good job (especially when it's clean): it doesn't diffuse the light and therefore not the whole screen is unusable.

An ideal screen IMO would be something that is usually matte but turns glossy in direct sunlight

I prefer glassy. I find the matte screens to not do any better in bright light, in fact, in my opinion they are worse as they tend to wash out making it very hard to read or see anything. Glassy screens typically (for me) only require a small adjustment in angle to get rid of any annoying reflections.

This poll, with 2 to 1 in favor of matte, makes me wonder what the HELL Apple was thinking. Seriously, if so many prefer matte, in a PRO product it should be offered at a minimum. Just like the 17" they could make extra money by selling it. I am still not convinced that we will not see a matte display 15" MBP by year end. I think the opinions, like shown in this poll, should lead Apple down the right path... Apple should definitely consider how to make every sale count in this market.

It is going to get worse for us all before it gets better. I think with the rage and level of complaints over both the glassy displays in the MacBook Pro and the lack of FireWire in the MacBook, this should work and force Apple to rethink its policies. Seriously, products should be based on what the BUYERS want and NOT what Apple wants to sell. Apple's position is really sad in this sense. You want to run OS X, you have to buy Apple computers. So, lack of competition equals exactly what has happened with the displays. Apple does it the way it wants, and everyone has to live with it.

But seriously, in this market, I would think Apple will finally see that it has to do what its customers want and not what Stevie & crew want. Just because the elite out of touch with reality crew like shiney movies doesn't mean everyone wants a super glossy display on their professional computers used in real world BUSINESS.

I expect changes by year end. True CPU upgrades have to come to boost sales. Build to order options have to increase to include what buyers want and not what Apple elites want to sell us. Prices on some key computers need to be lowered, and Apple will have to learn it cannot earn same margins on Macs that it does on iPhones. The iPhone is, in my opinion, the reason Apple has ignored real upgrades to CPUs in all of its Macs except for the Mac Pro, which nearly jumped 50% in price.

So this poll is very telling to me. Surely Apple could do a simple poll and see what will make MacBook Pro users UPGRADE... to stimulate sales... it's simple, a matte display! I have spoken with several people that have said they were going to upgrade as they do every year or two with their MBPs. However, they are not upgrading even though the unibody is really nice, as they cannot stand the glassy display. These people are NOT buying 17" MBPs... Apple needs to learn NOW. And this economy is just the time for Apple to learn quickly.

i agree 100% even tho i am a fan of the glassy screen. BUT the only way that we can get apple to change it's ways is by not buying the product. correct me if im wrong but i dont think that this is happening. ppl are giving in and buying the glassy screen's. and hey apple doesnt care if ppl want the matte because everyone is just buying their computers any way.

Perhaps your experience would be different if you owned the 17" MBP? It's lighter and thinner. ;)

It definitely doesn't look big, although due to the length and width, it is still considered a big laptop.

I love the glassy screen, its somehow more apealing to my eyes that the non-glassy. But jeah i agree there should be a choice atleast for all the macbook pros.

I much rather have a matte screen doesn't give me the headache that a glossy screen does. I do however kind of like semi-gloss screens like on some Samsung and Sony (ect) TVs, it diffuses some but not overkill. I figure it's the best of both worlds. But when it comes to reading text all day on a computer a matte screen is just so much easier on the eyes.
