I'm sorry petvas. I'm getting my threads mixed up and presumed you had the yellowing screen issue. Why did you get a replacement?

My iMac had a display issue. A pink vertical line, almost in the middle of the display. The USB ports also seemed to be working unstable. Apple agreed to replace it, since the problem began on the second day after its arrival.

----------

The reason why I'm asking is because I have place an order for my 1st iMac. I placed the order on Tuesday 11/12 and its stuck on ''Proccessing Order status'' for the past two days. You I should also write a letter to Tim Cook or should I wait.

Of course you shouldn't write to Tim! I only did that because I my first iMac came almost dead on arrival, and the replacement got delayed for unknown reasons. Even Apple support promised me a priority replacement, but that didn't happen.
Apple's customer relations solved it for me. I wouldn't just write to Tim because a normal order is delayed.

To replace my 5-year-old iMac, I ordered a new, fully tricked out BTO 27-inch iMac on 11/14 and it's supposed to arrive, according to FedEx tracking, on 11/23.

Actually, I hope it comes with Mountain Lion, which is a solid OS from my POV.

Anyway, I intend to partition the internal 1TB SSD into two parts -- probably the same size each -- and that way I can have two different OS installed. The second partition can be a test area, for now, for Mavericks. And being a new, empty partition, that would be a clean install, right?

I need to have my iMac working everyday, for my job and for certain computer audio pleasures, and don't want to deal with potential incompatibilities (even if they'll eventually be resolved).

For example, I need to log onto my company's VPN to work, and I've heard from our IT people that Mavericks and the VPN aren't good friends yet.

I am much looking forward to the new iMac. My wife, who already took my MacBook Air, will get the older iMac.

Hi Dave. Welcome to MacRumors! I see this isn't your first post but I thought a happy hello was in order anyway. :)

Since I started this thread I think I have had a change of heart. I originally felt it was necessary to have Mavericks on my new iMac. However, after thinking it over I don't think that's a requirement anymore. There are some good things that come with having Mountain Lion. Mostly because it's a proven, established OS, but also because it's something to fall back on if trouble is encountered with Mavericks. This has been useful in debugging an issue I'm having with my iMac.

My replacement iMac is supposed to show up next week and I bet it will come with Mountain Lion which won't be a problem for me.

I'm sorry but I can't offer any advice for dual-booting an iMac with Mountain Lion and Mavericks like you mentioned. Someone else might be able to help. If you do a search you might be able to find a thread that already talks about this. If not I'd suggest starting a new one. You'll likely get more response that way.

Hi Richard, thanks much for the welcome!

Actually, I know that if I partition the main, internal drive into two parts -- the original and the new -- that new part will be just like a blank drive. And therefore, installing an OS onto a blank drive is a clean install, since it's not going on top of an existing OS.

And then, I can choose which internal partition to boot from either from System Preferences or by holding down the Option key during a reboot.

My main question -- for myself at this point -- is do I partition the new iMac's internal drive equally, 500GB each? Or do I keep the original drive at 750GB and make the new partition only 250GB, kind of a test site?

Note, too, that I will have three external drives also attached, for backups and music and extra files. The three will be:
  • one Thunderbolt drive, the WD Duo, which I'll use as two separate drives, one as my main music drive (with over 1500 albums ripped), the other as a backup for media -- music, videos, photos -- in general
  • two USB 3.0 drives, the WD My Books, which won't be partitioned and will be used for backups of the internal drives, backups of key files (mainly media and work files), and other extra files
This should be fun. I've already figured out how to manually migrate various apps and files I need, such as MS Office, the Calendar file, my Thunderbird email files, bookmarks from my three main browsers, et cetera. I prefer to manually migrate, rather than use Apple's app, so as to keep things as clean as possible.

Well my wife's 21"iMac BTO arrived just now all the way from Shanghai. Ordered on the 10th Nov. It has a big wave on the box:)

Ok, updated box… i'm intrigued :)

So, uh, what is pre-installed?

Sorry guys it had 10.8.5 installed and the cover on the box was the generic one of the milky way. Now that I was allowed a closer look;)

However, I have installed 10.9 and it goes just fine. It has the 250GB SSD
and 16GB RAM. It is a very fast and cool machine. She is very pleased:)

Alright… false alarm… everyone go back to what you were doing. :) Just kidding.

Congratulations on the new machine anyway. I hope you both have fun with it!

I will get my iMac delivered today. It's actually already in the delivery van on it's way. I can tell you in the next hours if it has Mavericks on it or not.

In my mind, I have already prepared myself that there is Mountain Lion installed and that I get the old box. I would be very surprised to have a Mavericks iMac.

However, I have one question. Do I have to go through the first boot routine or can I simply press the alt key at first boot and make a clean install of Mavericks? I have it already installed on my MacBook Pro so therefore Mavericks is in the purchased history of the Apple ID.
Did anyone try that out? I mean I'm just wondering if I had to setup the old Mountain Lion machine at all or if I could also start with Mavericks right at the start and don't let the machine boot as Mountain Lion.

Has anyone done the same already?

EDIT: I think I can answer the question already by myself. I need the Mavericks recovery partition in order to install Mavericks on the machine, right? So I would have to at first install Mavericks through the Mac App Store... damn.

iMac with Mavericks!!

Hey guys,

This is just a quick update! My iMac finally arrived and I was so excited when I opened the box. And then it blew me away. It came in a Mavericks box! Hell, yeah! :D
I guess, it now also has Mavericks installed. Everything else would be ridiculous.

Here is also a picture that I have taken really quickly with my iPhone. The quality sucks, but it's just that you can see that I didn't lie to you.

Now, if you would excuse me, I have a huge Mac to unbox :D

Congrats!

I just ordered mine yesterday :D So I hope it will also come with Mavericks pre-installed.

That picture makes me want to cry, it is so beautiful :p . Hopefully my box will also have that greenish hue when I receive it in the coming weeks.

I guess that they started this week to ship iMacs with Mavericks preinstalled.
I have ordered mine last Wednesday and it was shipped on Saturday. Since I have Mavericks on it, I bet that you will definitely have one with Mavericks when you will buy it in the next couple of weeks.

What I can say about that machine is that it's just amazing! I can't find the words. It is so beautiful, so freaking fast and I'm so happy that I have the latest OS installed and didn't have to deal with installing Mavericks and do a clean install after all, etc.

I can finally watch YouTube in 1080p without compromises. With my MacBook Pro 13" from 2009 (which was a Core2Duo with only the Nvidia integrated graphics with 256 MB VRAM) this was not really possible.

In case anyone is interested, this is my configuration:

iMac 27"
3,4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
8 GB RAM
3 TB Fusion Drive
Nvidia GeForce GTX 775M with 2 GB VRAM

I'm so happy now :) I love my iMac :D

@MacOG728893: Time for you to give Apple a call :p

Ordered my Imac on 15.11. On 18.11 it was ready for shipping and I got it yesterday 21.11. Got the new box and Mavericks preinstalled as well. So I am very happy now ;)

I have a BTO 21" shipped out of California out for delivery today. After reading this thread, I'm just as excited about the box as I am the new computer. ;)

FYI, my iMac did come in a Mavericks box, so I think it's pretty safe to say that most are shipping with Mavericks now.

My replacement iMac showed up two days ago (Nov 22nd). Sorry for taking so long to reply but I only got a chance to open the outer box just last night. It came in a Mavericks box and with Mavericks pre-installed.
