As absurd as it is, Apple and most of their consumers don't care. This has been going on for decades, so you can comfortable say that Apple consumers don't care if they get ripped off.

Well a big chunk of Apple users are regular people who got used to iOS and switched to the Mac for private use in the last 5 to 10 years. Like my wife and a lot of my friends. Casual and even power home users, just not pros. Those people were happy with Macs and I showed them that Macs were not cheap at first sight but if you take into account what you get Macs used to be the best of the best so actually they were worth the price.

Now my friends need new computers and its hard to tell them that a Mac is still the best computer on the market. My wife had to choose between a new MacBook pro for 2500 Euros and a Windows machine for 750 Euros with the same or better specs and went with Windows. Of course she will miss MacOS but it looks like Apple doesn't care anymore for those normal people. And Windows is not bad like it used to be. It took me some time to get used to her machine when I was helping her set it up but hey Windows 10 is not bad at all! And there is iCloud for Windows too! So lets see how it all works out, if everything is fine I will switch too when my Mac dies or doesn't get the latest OS.

$10k in Australia, makes my new cloud processing desktop look cheap at half the price (Ryzen 1950x, 32GB DDR, GTX1070, 3TB SSD)

Out of touch? Hahaha. A professional would just by proper cables, rather than be stuck in the past with 20+ year old USB A ports. And move on.

Not sure what the derision is all about. Personally, I've done exactly as you said. For my work MBP I just bit the bullet and bought what I needed. But those dongles combined with the ridiculous keyboard and touchbar left enough of a sour taste in my mouth that for my personal needs I "moved on" and bought a PC laptop that actually suits my requirements.

Seriously... what is Apple smoking? A $7K laptop?!?
These prices remind me of the Windows notebook prices back in the '80s.
But the price is only $2,799 with the standard features on the 15" MBP.
I'll wait till 2050 when B&H sells them for $9
By then you could get it for $2 but you would not be able to update the OS or other software.
If it didn't have the touchbar, I'd give you the money. :)
Can't the MBP be operated withOUT using the Touch Bar?
I am not ready to sell my kidney on eBay yet for this 2018 most expensive option. I guess I will wait.
Don't be fooled by the loaded price. Throw in Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro and the price is $7,198.98.

Congratulations!

Many here who do not like Apple's offerings don't have the courage to do that, knowing it takes less effort to whine.

Apple has lost it's mind..... I can get a high end laptop for 1/2 the price that would spank that new MacBook pro..

So...Are you going to do that?

I complain only from the standpoint of a lifelong Mac user who is disheartened that these Macs are no longer what *I* want in a piece of hardware. I can't speak for anyone else but that's where my criticism comes from. I'm not here to convince anyone that my use case is the same as theirs. I'm glad other folks like these machines and enjoy using them.

For my 2017 MBP, I spent twenty bucks for two USB-C cables. And $15 for an ethernet adapter.

After purchasing an expensive laptop, I understand that's probably out of reach for the whine-inclined who only feel secure clinging to and stuck in the distant past.
It has nothing to do with being stuck in the past. Docking stations and dongles make an otherwise great product appear hideous.

4tb is an overkill for me but A fully loaded with 1tb and Apple care for 4000€ with VAT exception is my next purchase. Future proofing the machine and for the next gen cinema cameras.

I will stick to a Razer Blade with a GTX 1080. Blows away this machine in gaming and the keyboard actually works.

That's not what this computer is for. Gaming on a laptop is already silly, but this is for professionals. Doing professional work, in very specific areas. It's as simple as that. Now, I consider this a huge win today, because them not updating the 13 pro NTB means the chances of a cheaper MacBook 13 inch with retina screen seem even more likely. I'm a professional, (I run a publishing business) and the best tool for my job is my iMac 5k. I wouldn't dream of spending the coin on these MacBook pros, because I don't need what they have to offer. But when (if) the new MacBooks with 13 inch screens and improved keyboards comes out for $900-$1200, I'll happily buy one because that will suit my (professional needs).

Of course you buy a windows computer for gaming, or better yet a PS4 pro and a switch and not worry about it. (That's what I've done, and it's great).

And that's because these are the pro machines. The regular (MacBooks and MacBook air refresh) aren't out yet. That's when you can make the comparison. It's so ridiculous people can't tell the difference.

Got it. Some people are into appearances. Others are into performance and flexibility; such as having four 40 Gbit/sec Thunderbolt 3 ports, each also being able to receive and source power.

Guess that puts me in the latter group. Though I've yet to need a docking station. Just a couple of inexpensive cables.

For use on the go, I'd much rather have that and the huge benefit of a more compact and lighter weight laptop.

My car cost more than twice as much as that, and it can't do any of these things either.

You're logic is pretty damn flawed. The original poster was stating how new macbooks can't do basic tasks that are expected from any computer. An analogy to your car is to say that your car costs $50,000, yet it can't make a left turn, or go faster than 20mph, or go further than 50 miles on a full tank of gas. Do you get that?? What you said about your car can be said about anything. You could say, "My car cost more than 1000 times as much as a toaster, and it can't do any thing that the toaster can do."

No I'm just not gonna spend that kind of money.. I know there are people that will and hey that's what they need or want for business or for graphic design. But I can do everything and more with my i9 7900x 1080ti pc I built myself. I know software has a lot to do with the performance of the MacBook pro. but still the cost is way to over the top for me

People complained that they needed a 32 GB machine. People complained that they needed 4 TB of SSD. So now they are given the option and people complain about the price.

I hear you bro, and more power to you for building what you need. That's great and you have my respect!

I would very much like a 5 Series BMW automobile - they're awesome. But can only afford the Toyota that I'm now driving.

But for me, life is much too short hanging out on a BMW discussion forum, complaining about the price of an automobile that will likely always be beyond my means. Just sayin'...

Apple has lost it's mind..... I can get a high end laptop for 1/2 the price that would spank that new MacBook pro..

Looking at Dell's systems:
Oddly, Dell only sells 6 core i7 or i9 processors in their "home computers" category for laptops- Their business computers where everything else would be comparable only have quadcore i7 or xeon processors available. Weird.

Comparing to a Dell XPS 15 Touch maxed out (6 core i9 cpu, 32 gigs of ram, 2tb ssd (as big as they sell), nvidia gtx1050ti with 4gb gddr5 ram for that card, wifi includes bluetooth 4.2 (versus the Apple v5). That machine is just over $3000.

Apple CPU gets 4 thunderbolt 3 ports, the Dell just one (obviously pointing people to using a dock or port replicator) and a couple standard usb3 ports. Hey, the Dell has an SD card slot!

At this price you might as well get 3 years of the Dell premium support plus and 2 years of extended battery service. Adding Microsoft Office Pro brings is to $4267.98 not including tax and shipping.

Subtracting extended warranties and microsoft office and going for an across the board similar system for both (32 gigs ram, 1TB ssd, 6 core i9 you have $3098 for the dell and $3899 for the mac).

But with the Dell you're dealing with Windows and all that entails. Some people just prefer MacOS or have apps that use it. And the Dell is system is not half the price of the Mac. It's more. Mac is more expensive but you get what you pay for. My workplace buys a lot of Dell hardware. Given my last 13 years experience with them you will have your system go down at least once but Dell's local systems integrators are fast at repairs if you are covered under warranty. For Apple, I'd say Applecare is a must in any case but you will have less repair headaches.

I'm seriously considering biting on a 1tb, 32gb mbp. 6 cores? Come to daddy. This machine will easy last me another 5 years. The keyboard scares me though. No way am I dropping that amount of cash on a keyboard that breaks that easily. I don't mind the reduced travel at all, but the scare stories have me worried. Was really hoping they'd be redesigned.

Yeah, that’s exactly how I feel. I’m waiting to see what happens with the keyboard in these, if anything.

How much did you pay for your 4TB nVME SSD, 32GB DDR4, i9 4.8GHz 6 core laptop with 4 thunderbolt ports?

Is there even a laptop that powerful on Windows?

Thanks for insulting us.
Yes there are actually. The Dell Precision 7530 (exact same processor, 32 GB DDR4 [faster ram], 4k display, 4 TB of nVME storage.)

Dell's business Precision 5530, 7530, and 7730 all have 6 core options.

The only consumer machine that even comes close is the 17” Razer Blade Pro. It’s about $5k and is short by 2TB on the SSD and two cores on a 4.2GHz i7. And you get more weight for your money as its almost 8lbs. :D
But to be fair, the thing does have a Nvidia 1080 in it.

Razer Blade?
I'm not sure ~ $7k is a consumer laptop; you're well into professional country at that price. And if you're talking pro workstations, go configure a Dell Precision 7530, or HP Zbook 15. The MacBook is no joke, but it's hardly king of the hill.

So, I could get a car for the price of that.

Difference is, the car won’t be made obsolete and unusable in 4 or 5 years just because the manufacturer decides it wants me to buy a new one
