I'm on a 3 year upgrade where Year 1 is iPad Pro, year 2 is new iMac, Year 3 is new MacBook Pro.
I did a similar thing except I found the iPad Pro so powerful I no longer need a MBP. I still want a mini with todays MBP specs.

Does anybody know if it supports HDMI 2.1? I think the specs say that the HDMI port only allows for up to 4k60, but wonder if the thunderbolt 4 port supports hdmi 2.1 through an adapter.
Does this have HDMI 2.1?

Since on the website page it says "Support for one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz", I'd assume it's HDMI 2.0.

I went for something in the middle. I wanted 32GB memory, 2TB storage, but didn't care about the better GPU.

If you are not a pro, this "seems" expensive. If you are, and make your money on billable time doing pro work, its not bad at all.
Yeah, fair enough. These really do seem aimed at people who use them to make money. Hopefully they give us consumers things like MagSafe, ports, 1080p webcam, etc on the M2 MacBook Air. I definitely don’t need 64 GB RAM or 32 GPU cores, but some of the other stuff is just as important for “home users” as for pros.

I’ve always been a MBP user. However, with these new MBPs, I have to say these are definitely for professionals, not your average joe who just wants a MBP. If you’re not a legit professional or creative, i feel like you shouldn’t be buying these noteboois, in my opinion.

Alas, i just know some 18 year old at his or her local community college, is going to have a maxed out 2021 MBP…

It's a big number however a significant amount of that number comes from the 8TB SSD option which I can't imagine is a common option for people. Much as I'd like an 8TB SSD.

People can buy whatever they want to. I’m retired, but I just bought one. You’re telling me that I shouldn’t have?

The bulk of that $6099 comes from the 8 TB of SSD. Just get the 1TB SSD and add more storage with an external SSD through the Thunderbolt 4 port. That's what Thunderbolt 4 was intended to do.

People will complain but to have an insanely fast machine that you can put in a backpack and not require power for hours is an INSANE feat and the people who need that kind of power and hard drive space will have the bank for it. Since I edit off of 100TB+ DAS RAIDs, I'd be extremely happy with a 1TB with 64GB of RAM for under $4k, that I can still grab and work outside without compromising the performance of my 27" iMac. 27" high-performance iMac users (like myself) can imagine what the 27" will be like with an M1 Max chip once Apple releases those and you know they'll be able to come with 128GB or 256GB of unified memory and probably 64 GPU cores. I think it's safe to say, Intel's sweating...

These pro spec’d machines should, in theory, end up making you money and maximize your work flow and efficiency. With the line of work I do, I could do well with the lowest spec model but im crazy and going for the M1 Max lol.

Please Apple make the HDMI port an INPUT some day... I want to connect it directly to my camera without going through a flaky adapter.

Apple today announced new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M1 Pro and M1 Max Apple silicon chips, and the new machines come with higher than expected price tags.

The 14-inch model starts at $1,999, while the 16-inch model starts at $2,499. There are upgrades available for the chip, SSD, and memory upgrades depending on the model.

A fully maxed 16-inch MacBook Pro tops out at $6,099, featuring a top of the line M1 Max chip with 10-core CPU and 32-core GPU, 64GB unified memory, and 8TB SSD.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro models can be customized with the same specs. A 14-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Max, 64GB unified memory, and 8TB SSD is priced at $5,899.

Pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro models started today and the first machines will be arriving to customers next Tuesday. Fully customized and upgraded MacBook Pro models won't ship out until December.

It'd be nice as a 'non-pro' to have an option somewhere for a screen bigger than 13" though.
