probably for 95% of Mac users, the regular ole lowly MacBook (not pro) is fine for their needs
be nice to have an option for a bigger screen though.

And that’s why I wish they made a 15 or 16” MBAIt'd be nice as a 'non-pro' to have an option somewhere for a screen bigger than 13" though.
better GPU or blazing GPU was an answer to prayer wooooooI went for something in the middle. I wanted 32GB memory, 2TB storage, but didn't care about the better GPU.
Stay in a hotel for two weeks. Configure and buy the first day and get it just before the end.Cute, but it's BTO. How would you make that work?
Order two 👍🏻Thought I’d order the maxed out 16” with extra apps installed:
“Higher than expected price tags” Expected by who? They are literally exactly the price points I expected.
Apple today announced new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M1 Pro and M1 Max Apple silicon chips, and the new machines come with higher than expected price tags.

The 14-inch model starts at $1,999, while the 16-inch model starts at $2,499. There are upgrades available for the chip, SSD, and memory upgrades depending on the model.
A fully maxed 16-inch MacBook Pro tops out at $6,099, featuring a top of the line M1 Max chip with 10-core CPU and 32-core GPU, 64GB unified memory, and 8TB SSD.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro models can be customized with the same specs. A 14-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Max, 64GB unified memory, and 8TB SSD is priced at $5,899.
Pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro models started today and the first machines will be arriving to customers next Tuesday. Fully customized and upgraded MacBook Pro models won't ship out until December.

Something equivalent to the display in the 27" iMac that can be used with these Macbook Pros would probably get me to buy one instead of continuing to wait for the 27" iMac's M1 replacement. The next iMac will probably be 30" but if Apple can do a non pro XDR like display, I'll sell the iMac and do MBP + Display like I used to.
Yep... $2400 for storage upgrade alone is the bonkers part. Having the absolute max-specced model (other than storage) for $3700 (only $3360 on edu discount) including 64GB of RAM really doesn't seem like that bad of a price... or at least no worse than expected.I seriously hate these headlines. Just configure it without the 8TB of storage.
Per the Apple store page: "HDMI digital video output - Support for one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz"Does anybody know if it supports HDMI 2.1? I think the specs say that the HDMI port only allows for up to 4k60, but wonder if the thunderbolt 4 port supports hdmi 2.1 through an adapter.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a second computer to double productivity? If you are not a pro, this "seems" expensive. If you are, and make your money on billable time doing pro work, its not bad at all.

There's nothing more frustrating than being held up by hardware when you're trying to get work done. Waiting on a computer can be worse than being stuck in traffic! Pros will pay whatever it takes to reduce this.Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a second computer to double productivity?
If you want to argue that's not how productivity works - yes. Exactly.
I’ve always been a MBP user. However, with these new MBPs, I have to say these are definitely for professionals, not your average joe who just wants a MBP. If you’re not a legit professional or creative, i feel like you shouldn’t be buying these noteboois, in my opinion.
Alas, i just know some 18 year old at his or her local community college, is going to have a maxed out 2021 MBP…
People can buy whatever they want to. I’m retired, but I just bought one. You’re telling me that I shouldn’t have?N
Ditto, but with 32 GB of RAMI ordered the same thing except with a 2TB drive.
But it won't keep your office warm in the winter! Foreshame!Cheaper and faster than the Mac Pro.
