Actually, Big Sur has made it touch friendly, "somewhat".
No, it hasn't. Not remotely. Not in the slightest. I don't think you have the first idea what that even means.

Despite the horrid example that Windows has set for the world by just shipping a KBAM OS on touch displays, that does not work, and will not work.

This isn't about "Touch support". Touch is not something you just add support for.

iOS and iPadOS are a Touch OS designed for touch from the ground up. MacOS is not. You cannot and will not be able to run macOS on an iPad Pro.

I rather have the future 30" iMac if we are going that expensive, and keyboard is not extra.

Does the $2400 include the pencil/keyboard as shown in the image?
No pencil or keyboard. From the article, " Neither of those price points includes an Apple Pencil or a Magic Keyboard, both of which can be purchased separately." So add up to $450 on top of that for the pencil and keyboard.

You know what would absolutely make this device, such that people no longer have to double guess the idea of buying one instead of a traditional computer, especially when it costs more than a lot of them now? DeX. Really, that's it. Give it a desktop mode like Samsung's tablets and smartphones do, so that people will have a more traditional environment to work when they need it. It's M1 running a similar OS to the Macs, so maybe it can even run applications made for the Apple Silicon Macs.

It would be a great move. I've seen multiple people say that they actually prefer the experience of using the Galaxy Tab S7+ because of DeX. Of course, they don't have the iPad's library of apps over there. Why not make a best of both worlds?
Imagine having an actual iPhone Pro that does this. Just having a different monitor at home, your office, etc. that you can dock your iPhone into, have it run macOS when docked and iOS when not, and suspending everything in RAM to bring you right back where you left off when switching docs. With the M1, an ARM macOS, and 512+GB of storage, it’s entirely possible now.

If they'd give me the ability to run macOS when I'm docked to a keyboard, mouse, and maybe an external monitor and iOS when I'm not I'd buy one of these in a second.

Asking me to buy two expensive devices with the exact same internal components due to arbitrary software limitations is kind of offensive. I mean, seriously, the 12.9" iPad Pro could run macOS just as well as the M1 MacBook Air does. If they're so stuck on not having a touchscreen macOS device, turn the stupid thing off when I'm using it docked, I don't really care.

The front-facing camera is still on the side (portrait mode) instead of the middle (landscape mode)?
Are you kidding me?

Anyone who does serious video conferencing knows how awkward it is to video conference with the front-facing camera on the side. It's the worst possible positioning.
That’s what the new Center Stage feature is supposed to solve I think. We’ll have to see how it goes in practice. But it definitely does not solve the hand covering the camera to unlock issue. Which for me personally is infuriatingly annoying how often i have to move my hand to unlock or login to an app, etc. would have loved to see TouchID added to the Pros like on the Air.

Capped at 2% where I live, so not a problem for me.
It’s not that they raise your tax rate, its that they raise your property valuation. At least here in MD. And lets not talk about how they raise your Social Security tax ceiling every year but never raise the “rate” just one more way to get their pound of flesh without you feeling it.

Honestly its simply going to be overpowered.
IpadOS will limit it
I've been thinking that it highlights how underpowered the new iMac is. This is just further confirmation that the M1 is still an iPad chip, and when Apple makes a chip that benefits from the desktop architecture there's going to be a massive performance boost.

They are really going to have to overhaul iPadOS for this thing. I thought for a few seconds they were going to show it dual boot Big Sur when connected to the magic keyboard.
Not even dual boot, but switches between macOS and iPadOS mode seamlessly. Now that these chipsets are 1-to-1 with current mac lineups. another WWDC or two with arm apps taking advantage of both KB+Mouse/Touch UI experience, the iPad would become the answer to MSFT Surface tablets/laptops. But of course, we'll get ads that MS did it first.

At this point, what’s the difference between an iPad Pro and an iMac other than the OS? Only that the mobile OS comes at a premium. The iMac looks like nothing more than an iPad on a stand and they both use the M1....

I have a 1T first gen 11 inch pro. Will do the 12 inch one with 1T as well. Time for the trade in...
