Why is Apple a joke? I have to answer -- as off topic as it is.

Do you REALLY think it's some sort of weird accident or part issue with the watch that they choose a hip high end boutique like Maxfield to sell a small amount of Apple Watches?

This is totally by design. And yeah they are holding steady on this strategy - as crazy as it is making the normal "Apple" early adopters feel. The heat Apple in Cupertino is feeling I'm sure is very hot. No doubt. But ...They need to stick to it. Those who understand the depth of the "accessory" market get it. It's HUGE. It's lifestyle. And it makes sense.

The idea of selling these watches at the Apple Store would totally destroy the legacy of the Mac AND its biggest product -- the iPhone and drive away a throng of customers that want no part of "watches". I'm shocked how so many don't get it. This is not "transitioning" the iPod market to iPhone people.

My gut says that balance on the watch will happen globally AFTER the next iPhone release and be readily in supply just in "time" for the holidays. By then they will accumulated enough order data and preferences to make this a blockbuster catergory - another reason today the watch is relegated to the "other" category on its financials -- for now...

The watch will end up being a HUGE category for Apple - bet me.

Btw I ordered a 42 mm Sport Black Space Grey today at Maxfield. Took 20 min to get a appointment time. Waited 1 hour till called into store. Done. Guy said 2 days is average till called for pick up. It's Saturday so I'll expect it Tuesday or Wednesday.

Bottom line. This beats what will happen via an online order. So far..

Can someone explain how they are now taking orders at Maxfield?

I'm looking to get a 38mm Space Gray.

I'm so happy you happen to live next to where one of Angela's friends work!

Now here in the real world, when a company has strictly 'stuck' with one way of distribution while we find this level of distribution almost operating at say, an exclusive-friends or cartel like agreement - that could be construed as a 'joke'. But really, IMO fraud and the sign of a company losing sight of its original mission and fanbase.

Makes sense now? ;)

Just be lucky you can wake up early enough, stand in line with the other LA hipsters (really, that sun does some weird stuff to your brains...) and be happy you have a closer chance of acquiring one. I'm sure we will both remember this day when eventually these things are sold at tourneau's and other "fine" retailers.

You have to go in person and stand in line and get a ticket. Then you pay in advance and order what you want.

The most important thing you need to know if they don't get what you want in the time you want NO CASH REFUNDS! store credit only!

They will NOT take orders over the phone or net MUST BE IN PERSON and they will NOT SHIP IT OUT you must pick it up!

With the ticket you get an appointment....do you choice your time or it goes by the number you get?

Is this the same process during the week? I was thinking of going there on my lunch break one day, but I can't wait for a ticket and then go back later.

I believe it goes by the number...but I'm not sure I hope someone else can chime in!

Apple seem to only be sending watches to the store that shipped on launch day to people who preordered in the first shipping window.
 
Have there been any Space Black SS orders from Maxfields or have they commented on availability?

I made my apt Saturday for 6pm (others opted for earlier apt 3pm) because I wanted to go enjoy the beautiful day in Santa Monica. The security guys said something like "you're the first person to say that" and laughed a bit. Headed back at 6pm to the same friendly security guys and they took good care of me. I got the unit I needed right then and there.

Lucky me :)

Yep the security guards are nice and funny. One of the maxfield workers that has a Steve Jobs like beard was very happy and danced around. Some people are leaving them bad reviews on yelp; I don't know why.

I just talked to them. They said they keep getting stock and are making calls today. But did not say which models.

OMG do you know Angela too? She's awesome! Yes your so right - she's doing this ONLY to take care of the L.A. Elite!

That's why anybody can walk right up and get in line no matter who they are.

Your response seems to prove that while frustrating to you - I feel your pain - it's the path they chose to better ensure success of a WEARABLE accessory that is right now FOREIGN to the rest of the companies product line.

Apparently you don't get out much. Spend some time and go to your local BEST BUY and see HOW TACKY AND LAME "the display" is for the current crop of "wearable technologies" in the marketplace. Not a soul was looking at ANY OF them while they sat there in their broken down dilapitated state. There's a reason for Google, SameSong, and LG that for them the category is D O A.

Your right! Angela is a nit wit!

Do your research !

Last I checked the international media is fixated on only ONE wearable - any guesses which one? Yea what a failure!
