I just got this e-mail but I don't know what it means.

Dear Mr.XXXX,

Thank you for your e-mail.

In our database, it shows that its an Apple IPhone. And that is also unlocked. You just need to connect to iTune with the SIM which has never been used with this handset.

In case, it is not an iPhone and it is Nokia, then please provide the IMEI number of the handset by dialling *#06# and send it back to us.

Kind regards,

Ishita Dave

Do you own a factory unlocked model? :p

Just got this email:

"Dear Mr. XXX

I have submitted a request for generating Number Unlocking Code & the reference number for the same is 225***.The turnaround is 48 hours.

If it works i will WOOOWW! :p

I recieved four rejection emails yesterday morning, and today I got a text from 11113000

"AT&T Free Msg: Your phone is now enabled to dial & roam internationally. Details & rates at att.com/global. See att.com/wirelesstraveltips for iPhone travel tips"

That's odd. Are you sure you didn't change anything unrelated in regards to AT&T? Intl Roaming is clearly not the same thing as unlocking, and I'm not sure how putting in a (fake) support request from Vodaphone UK would change anything for AT&T. Personally, I leave Int'l roaming off on purpose.

Don't get your hopes up. It's been said many times (twice by me) that this is the standard email everyone gets.

And no one has gotten it to work in a long time. I hope you do, but you won't :p

Is not so important in my case, i dont need it! What is in cause is if one day i sell it i 'd get a bit more €€..

probably vodafone is sending the IMEI number to Apple and Apple realizes it's not a vodafone phone, so they tell AT&T that you want to use your phone out of the country and they add international roaming and dialing.

I don't know how to test it out but I have been through this thread 4 times over and no one has gotten the e-mail that I received last night. Prior to this email I was rejected about 4 times. The only way I can find out is if I get a pre-paid microsim I guess.

You did receive an email that I haven't seen. And you are the original owner of the phone (not refurb, purchased on ebay)? Interesting...

Yessir. I stood in line for 10 hours for the AT&T opening and it was worth every minute :D

Thanks Superman80

Hi All,

Newbie here, but have been a long time reader, ive noticed that in the USA you have to pay stupid money to have your Iphone unlocked, well here in the UK some operators offer it free, Im on Orange UK and was told by them that it will cost £20 to have it unlocked by them, i then heard that vodafone UK offer the service free, so i thought i would try my luck using this web form

http://campaigns.vodafone.co.uk/UnlockCodeRequestForm/

and low and behold i just had this back from them!

Just to say a BIG THANK YOU Mr Superman80! Caught this thread by chance May 5th & sent off a request. I'm not wt VF nor in British Isles. I've had a couple of emails to verify model etc and this morning received my notification to say it's unlocked.
Once I reset it - can I then continue using my usual SIM & use it with local SIM in US, Japan etc when visiting?
Thanks again, it just makes life a little easier.

What about unlocking from O2? Has anyone tried this?

https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form

Also, is there a way I could take my US iPhone to an O2 store un the UK and pay the "one time fee" to unlock of £15??

I just did it, twice lol and I spoke to a representative. Here is our conversation.

Welcome to O2. Someone will be with you soon.
You're through to Bradley.
Bradley: Hi I'm Bradley. How can I help?
John Wall: Hey Bradley, my name is John and I was wondering if you could help me unlock my phone
Bradley: I'll be happy to help you.
John Wall: Great, thank you so much for all your hard work I really appreciate it.
Bradley: Shall I help you with the link. So that you can unlock your phone.
John Wall: Sure. I do not know how this works. I've done a little research and do I just tell you my phone information or something else? I'm sorry I don't really know what to expect.
Bradley: Please click here to unlock your phone.
Bradley: Your phone will get unlock with in 7 working days and not 14 working days.
Bradley: Do you want me to fill the form for you?

John Wall: Oh no thanks, I think I have it. I do have some questions though.
John Wall: How do I know the unlock went through or not? Do I just have to keep reinserting the SIM or will I get an email?
Bradley: Is it an iphone?
John Wall: Yes
Bradley: Once your iphone is successfully unlock, you'll get a text stating this.
John Wall: All right. Well thank you so much for all the information. I really appreciate it. I don't think I have any further questions so I'll just fill out the form now.
Bradley: You're welcome.
Bradley: We'd really like your feedback. Click on 'End chat' in the top right of this screen to tell us what you think. Bye.
Bradley: Have a Good Weekend
Bradley: I'm happy that I could help you today.
Bradley: It was great chatting with you.

John Wall: Yes it was thank you very much and have a wonderful day.
Bradley: Thanks.

Colored in red is the Representative I spoke with. I put a fake phone number for the actual and the "secondary" as my real number (00-1-###-####) if someone were to call the US. I also put an email in there and will wait to see if I get a response. Only time will tell I guess.

^^^ awesome man let me know what happens. just to check..

are you from the US with an AT&T iPhone?

From the form, I don't know how they would unlock your phone if you have to put in a fake # to make it look like you are from the UK, because all the form asks for is # and name.

I am from the US with an AT&T iPhone. I'm hoping, and I think everyone else is, that they are just going off the IMEI code on your phone and you don't need an actual payment plan with the carrier. They're just unlocking at will so to speak. I guess I'm hoping they unlock my phone, go to send me a text message/e-mail and be done with it, but if they check if I am in their system before unlocking than it won't be good seeing as I am not part of O2. I'll let you guys know in 2 weeks I guess.

In the meantime, with my other e-mail I got from Vodaphone, I am trying to find a sim card from someone too see if I am factory unlocked. I'll post my results as soon as possible seeing as no one else in this thread received the same e-mail I did.

Tried them the other day. Here is O2's response.

I been tryin from 10:30 till 2:30. 4 hours and they all said no.... FML. i had 1 rep tell me i should get it unlocked. it will take 7 days but im not sure..... im still trying.... This Sucks.... :( Hopefully ill get it unlocked from that 1 rep that told me it'l work. and he asked for my email too... so lets see....

I wouldn't recommend the O2 route as they actively check the account to see if it's a Pay Monthly one (unlock will be free) or Pay As You Go (£15 charge).
