MBP 15" vs 17" which one to buy?

I also have an iMac and was thinking I could replace it with a 24" LED, but I would lose the use of another computer.

Isn't the aspect radio better in the 17" for HD movies?

I do not need to use both computers, but I noticed my macbook pro can use it as a backup.

The aspect ratio is the same on the 15" and 17" - 16:10. HD for comparison is 16:9 (shows tiny black borders). The resolution and higher colour gamut on the 17" MBP gives it the advantage for HD movie watching.

It would cost me about 500 more to trade in my 15"

Trying to decide if movie watching is worth the difference.
