Either way, it's yours to decide. I'd recommend a refurbished machine regardless of which you choose. MBPs swing as low as $1500 @ Apple, MBs as low as $750.

As I said I am going to be a medical student and am not going to be doing any video editting or gaming. Its just going to be my primary computer. Should I get the MBP 2.2 or MB 2.2 by this week or get the new MBP? what are the new updates that we can realistically expect for the MBP because I just feel like going now and getting a damn mac.

Do the refurbs look brand new and have warranties and can you get the protection plan for it.

Get 2.2 MBP

Yes and Yes

Jeeze - just decide whether you want a smaller computer with a 13" screen or a larger computer with a 15" screen. They're both more than capable for your needs.

I can decide weather the 15 inch is worth the extra grand because the macbook is completely what I probably need but the screen, the screen is only 13.3 inches

You're not going to get an answer by asking the same questions over and over again. If this really matters to you, why not go to an Apple store and try out the machines yourself?

I have done that too. I just am really in a ripping my hair out mood. i really want the laptop. don't want to wait for the new update to MBP and truth be told I don't know if this peryn processor is going to effect my needs at all.
by the way what is this new peryn that every one wants so bad.

Im going to be a medical student and only use a pc for internet and microsoft office. I just want to know if I should really get the MBP or MB. I was thinking MBP for a while but, realized that its is really for video editing and stuff graphics which I don't do. I really like the 15.4 inch screen vs the 13.3 for the MB but I don't know if its worth a grand extra. I also want office to run smoothly on my MB want your input as to what to do. Also the MB are nothing going to be updated soon but the MBP's are so that is another thing. Thanks

Yeah I had the same problem you have. Needed a portable for school, but didn't want to sacrifice much performance. I finally went with my 2.16GHz Blackbook with 2GB of ram and it runs Office and all other apps for that matter as good as my iMac (which has the same processor and RAM). The MacBook is plenty powerful enough for your needs.

If you are in doubt about the screen size, then go with the bigger size.

You can never have too much screen space when working on a computer. So a 17 inch MBP would be great. The smaller the laptop the better. So a MB with a 13 inch screen would be great.

The 15 inch MBP offers a nice compromise. Plus you get the benefits that I listed above.

Ok then should I wait for the New MBP? Because I dont know if the peryn is going to affect me unless it is of course the same price as the MBP now.

Do you NEED the laptop right now? If so I'd wait till the 26th and see what happens with the MBP, or just buy a MB now if thats the way you want to go.

If you don't need it right now and you want a MBP then just wait as long as you can till the next update so you get new hardware (the prices don't usually change for updated products).

The current gen MBP will suit you just fine, but a lot of people don't want to pay full price for almost a year old hardware so they are waiting.

Ok I think I am going MBP but, I think I will wait because school doesn't start till August. It's just going to be a lot of money with the tax, Microsoft office 08 and the protection plan. by the way do you guys recommend office 08' to buy or............

Office 04 should be fine I'd imagine. Or you can always look at iWork 08, I've just started using it and Keynote and Numbers are surprisingly good. Haven't tried Pages just yet.

I say check out an apple store, but don't feel too bad about asking questions here. I'm in the same boat as you are and am torn between a 15" MBP or a BlackBook. I highly recommend searching for info first rather than hijacking threads (even if they're your own) and then making a new thread if you can't find what you're after or need clarification. You'd be surprised how many questions have already been answered.

IMHO the more you need to move it, the smaller it should be.

go '08 as it's optimized for intel. Also see if you school offers any good prices on office '08. My University was offering it for like 50.00

When I used Pages to draw up a table (it was a table of contents at the intro of the essay) and then exported it in Word's .doc format, the entire document messed up. In the end, I had to change it to a pdf file just so it was print worthy, cos I wasn't sure if the college's printer accepted the document in Page's format.

Will probably go get Office for Mac soon.

@ hellzprince, good luck with med school, where are you going btw? i suggest u go with the macbook, considering with the other things you'll be carrying aside from books.. and there'll be a time when you have to go on rounds with the interns and residents.. u really need something that's portable.. have u considered an MBA?
the university library will always have a desktop than u can use if you really want hardcore video editing and stuff.. but personally, i think you'll be using it for surfing the net and doing reports.. that's it! the MBA will suit you.:D

When in doubt, get a MacBook. No use spending the extra $$$ if you can't justify it.

Ok, I've thought about it, and I'll boil it down to this:

I know in your heart you really, really want a MBP. I'm not gonna lie, when I got my first Mac, I was DYING for a PowerBook, but being a poor college student I was at that time, I couldn't justify it, so I got the iBook and three years later, it's still running well.

Get whatever you want that will make you happy. We're here to provide advice, and as you can see, a ton of people have responded with MacBook. Will this change your mind on what to get? Probably not, because in your gut, you will probably still desire one over the other. Life is too short to think about these things too long - even if you do buy a MacBook, you still may have buyers remorse.

Buy the computer that will make you happiest. Money will eventually sort itself out, you'll be happier for the long term and you won't have buyers remorse. Being in Med School, you'll have plenty of other things to worry about anyways.

I've had both. I have a CD Blackbook, and just got a 2.2 MBP. I love them both. I got the Pro model because I started getting paid to do some photoshop work. The CD Blackbook screen was fine for me for everything. I love it's compactness, and it is a great mobile companion.

I bought a 22" external screen after xmas at Fry's, and it was a perfect companion for the macbook.

My advice, get the macbook. You will love the portability. I had a 15" dell before that, and never missed the larger screen. And it's way fast enough.

Enjoy!!
;)

For what you are doing the MBP is overkill, the MB will handle all of your needs with great ease and will keep up for some time to come. Also the MB is in mid product cycle so it is not a bad time to buy where as the MBP is over due for an update.

you're asking your questions in a circle, it'll never end. buy what you want

You can get a 20" apple cinema display and MB with student discount and it will still cost less than a MBP. That way you have the best of both worlds. A desktop set up at home (get a keyboard and mouse) then portability for when you are out and about. Should you decide later you want a MBP you can sell the MB towards it.

Just get the goddam MacBook Pro!!!!!! :p

I have a MacBook Pro, and my dad has the MacBook, and we both agree that from every aspect (portability included), the MBP is better. It may be slightly larger in terms of width/depth, but it still fits into every bag I've ever needed it to. However, when I've carried the MacBook with me, it's extra thickness means there's less space for books or whatever in the bag.

The Pro also performs better consistently in my experience, will last longer, gives you more expandability, is much, MUCH nicer to use, looks cooler and will run any app you can throw at it (which the MacBook will not).
