Any idea if blueray is coming anytime soon? All I want is a updated keyboard. I know current users love it, but I like the new MB Air keyboards, just a preference...

Here are a few things I would like to be changed/added:

-build the case like the MBA, i.o.w. no plastic edges that peel outwards/crack or just very plainly look very cheap (yes PC laptops look far cheaper). And no warping/bending aluminium.
- Lose the ugly speaker grills, dirt gets in these very easily.
- eSATA, or faster firewire connectors, this of course all so means that the peripheral makers need to build that into that equipment as well.
- I would love a maglatch it would make the design so much more clean looking without the button on the front.

In anwser to the orginal poster, these are the changes I could see being made:

-Magnetic Latch
-Larger trackpad
-MBA/MB style keyboard
-User-replaceable HDD
-HDMI port
-eSATA port
-Secondary trackpad button

I'm sure theres still lots of other things I didn't list. Do not tell me there are a shortage of things that need changing!

Personally all I would want in the current MacBook Pros is the choice to change the color of the backlight keyboard and when you buy it to pick different color of aluminums, similar to the iPod Nano, Mini, or Shuffle.

better screen resolution

Nobody seems to talk about the redesign updating the screen resolution (namely the 15" MBP). I'm waiting to upgrade from a MB mostly for the larger display, but I'm waiting because I'm hoping there will be a BTO option for a higher res screen.

1440 x 900 is overall pretty low especially for a "Pro" computer. I really miss my 12" Toshiba display that ran at 1440 x 1050. Under OS X the low resolution is slightly easier to deal with - but I'll be developing under windows and the low resolution just doesn't cut it.

Higher resolution is all I'm asking for in an upgrade (oh - and the MB style keyboard :) )

im not so sure i want the keyboard to be replaced. i have been typing on a mbp recently (not mine) and it felt fine to me.

i want little things like magnetic latch (my dads has that bulging issue) and something done with the plastic around the edge (my dads has a crack in it)

i would love the option for black. keep the silver one and add a black one.

i do not want the tapered look. i think it looks good for the air, considering how small it is and the purpose it serves, but i just like the classic look better. but hey im open to change, surprise me apple designers.

I just want a blue ray drive and better graphics chip.

not to sound like a traitor here, but the IBM-Lenovo laptops are on par with macbook pro.

after 3 months of daily use ('08 model 2.5Ghz 15" MBP), here is my list:

better keyboard (MBA style)
higher res lcd (plus the ability to fold it back much further)
eSATA port (drop the firewire 400)
card reader (or cheap express card adapter)

ya esata would be supper
no card reader because i think it limits what you can put in there.
as stated cheap adapter

and do not change the keyboard :p

Well, I had a dell a couple of years ago, and It had a multi card reader built into the one slot, it could read like 6 different types of cards. and it wasn't really noticeable. personally I think that it is a nessesity.

SuperCompu2: Most new DSLR's are now using SD cards, believe me I just bought one today after looking at probably 20 or so cameras, all but one used SD cards.

I think your confusing DSLR's with Point and shoot's... i don't know one DSLR that uses SD...

I'm extremely happy with the current MPB design. Being happy doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement in the future. Some would be minor, some major. Among the features I'd like to see (in no particular order):

:apple: Programmable colors for the apple on the lid, so users can choose their color(s) or have it change automatically, triggered by programs, iTunes, battery life remaining, etc.

:apple: Hot-pluggable internal hard drives, so you can unplug your optical drive and plug in another HDD to double capacity.

:apple: A Firewire external Blu-ray drive, for those who opt for a 2nd hard drive and who only occasionally use the optical drive.

:apple: A USB port that's recessed for my VX Nano dongle, so nothing extends beyond the side of the MBP.

:apple: An iSight cam that can be turned up/down/left/right, so you don't have to move the viewing angle of the screen to move the camera. Rather than have a swivel mount, like the Sony VAIO had, it would be great if the movement was all internal, driven by keystrokes or mouse, rather than have a part of the external case move.

:apple: Replace the ExpressCard/34 slot with another USB and another Firewire port. (I know some may use the ExpressCard/34 slot, but I haven't found a compelling need for it.)

:apple: While I love the aluminum finish, it would be great to have more options, such as brushed steel, chrome, etc. Something less prone to scratches would be welcome, too.

:apple: Better built-in speakers! More bass response and more volume, so they don't sound so much like built-in PC speakers.

:apple: Move the microphone to the top of the lid, near the iSight, to move it farther away from the speakers and the hard drive and keyboard noise. This is something that seems like a no-brainer to me, yet so many notebook computers put the microphone in the noisiest place possible! Anyone ever hear of feedback?

:apple: Built-in better material for palm rests, without having to resort to 3rd party vendors. This would not only help keep the MBP cleaner but also make it scratch resistant from watches, bracelets, etc.

:apple: How about making the built-in keyboard bluetooth enabled, so it can be popped out and used away from the MBP case? This would help reduce wear and tear on the MBP palm rests and would help those who want to use the MBP in clamshell mode with an external display, without having to buy a separate wireless keyboard. It would be great for presentations, as well, and would make replacing the keyboard easier in the case of a spill.

:apple: Arrange the ports so the power, DVI, audio, at least one USB and one Firewire port are all on the left side, so you can reduce the need to have cables coming out of both sides of the MBP. Possibly even have a bundled cable option that splits off, similar to the cleaner ACD concept.

None of this is intended as a complaint, so there's no need to defend anything. These are just a few of the things that would work better for me. As always, your mileage may vary.

I like that idea,.... it'll be 1 sweet :apple:

:apple: Hot-pluggable internal hard drives, so you can unplug your optical drive and plug in another HDD to double capacity.

That would be very convenient, but will add to the thickness of MBP.

:apple: A Firewire external Blueray drive, for those who opt for a 2nd hard drive and who only occasionally use the optical drive.

This is doable,.... i don't see why not,...

:apple: A USB port that's recessed for my VX Nano dongle, so nothing extends beyond the side of the MBP.

Will be hard to design a housing that fits every dongle,.... I don't like anything extending beyond the side as well,....

How about motion sensing cam? But I presume it would have to be a big cam and make MBP thick!
Maybe using the trackpad as finger-print reader?

:apple: While I love the aluminum finish, it would be great to have more options, such as brushed steel, chrome, etc. Something less prone to scratches would be welcome, too.

I think that's a more economical way as adding color will cost a lot,....

Will that increase the distance of the user and mic if near the cam? How about a detachable bluetooth headset?

I love this idea,..... but i would think MBP would have to be big for all those mechanism,... unless there's not mechanism and is connected wirelessly constantly.

well...
if it had a double drive bay i wouldn't need a external drive that i us my express card slot with an esata connection. (which if you guys do not know what this is, lets just say, if you could hook up your all your usb, firewire 400 and 800, at the same time, it would be kinda close)

but then i wouldn't have a disk drive.
which would be really slow to burn things if it was through usb. (i burn dvds frequently) maybe fw400.

but right now that would be around 600gb of storage with two drives.
that is deff not enough,
i have a 500, 120, (external, 500 esata 120 fw800)and 160gb in my bay right now and its getting tight.

express card is a must have. no if ands or buts

a hot swap drive would be the best and do not understand why we do not have one.
i want a scorpion 300gb drive so bad.

ya, if there was a program to change the light on the outside that blinks and the apple logo that would be very cool.
but mostly a gimmick just like slapbook, and those other two things.
