I got my display replaced a bit over a week ago for free and for me everything is fine right now.

I was cleaning my 15" MBP Retina today using a cloth that came with one of my other iProducts and noticed that some of the coating on the black outer border was coming off. At first it looked like smudges until I went back over it and noticed it was coming off and getting larger. Anyone hear of or had this issue? Possible concern for a bigger issue?

I couldn't find much on the forum other then the dead pixel issue which I had previously that Apple replaced and a yellowish tint which I'm dealing with right now on the left side of my screen which Apple says it's not noticeable.

Hi, have similar problem. The silver coating in the hinge 'gutter' between my desktop and screen has patches of silver coating removed. Is macbook pro retina 2013. I am not an avid cleaner only do when necessary and follow Apple recomendations with damp lint free cloth. I also have staining on the screen borders...'staingate'...have submited it for assessment & replacement! So yet to see outcome. Is personal comnputer no one else has access. I am female & very particular. I have not done anything to cause the damage! Have you taken your Computer to Apple for repair? If so what was the verdict??? Regards

Just make a Genius appointment at your Apple store. I had pretty much the exact symptoms as you, brought it in last Sunday and got it back on Friday with a new display (proof attached). My computer was out of warranty.

Thanks for reply 'macrumors newbie'. I'm in Australia. Took mine in last Thursday 3rd Dec to Apple shop they sent it off for repairs quoting that if not covered I'd be up for AUS$80.00 service fee!!! Was purchased late Dec 2013 including Apple Care Plan. Can use your proof if rejected!!! Also I am not happy with the 'black' not 'silver' coating in the hinge 'gutter' between my desktop and screen which has patches of white where black coating is removed. This should not happen using 'dam' lint free cloth to clean!

Of course this is not normal however the fix is internal only but not publicly advertised. If you need assistance, call AppleCare and advised the anti-reflective screen coating issue and they will escalate this and provide you with a code to give the AASP / ARS. There is no charge involved in this process, and the $80 you mentioned is void. Complain to the manager. Mine was done over a month ago as I was one of the ones who discovered this issue and escalated it to Apple under Consumer Law.

Thanks ArmCortexA8 ... I was told it would take 3 weeks to reach verdict/repair. Will follow your advice & contact Apple Care.

I remember this was an issue a while ago. There were some web sites about it calling it "Staingate". If you do a web search on it, it will show images similar to yours. I believe Apple does replace the screen in most cases.

If you are nowhere near an Apple Store like me, then use Madazone with cotton to wipe off the coating. It's like a parazone. Worked like a charm on mine
