Perhaps there's a screen protector people can vouch for, should I choose to go that route.
The screen protector is an option, but some have been known to strip off coatings when you remove them. Read about it before buying any brand.

I have the Kuzy 13" screen protector from Amazon. It essentially makes the screen glare the same as the non retina glossy screens. I can't vouch for whether it takes the coating off with it (I don't think I'm ever going to take it off), but the screen protector appears essentially the same as those for iPads so it wasn't super tacky. I chose to deal with glare than having a beat up looking screen.
Some of the reviews say it doesn't fit right, but I got it to fit perfectly. The only thing I had to do was cut off a 1MM bit off the bottom right edge to get it completely flush. It did take a little longer to apply than on an iPad, but just have a lot of scotch tape ready to lift up the edges and grab any dust that made it in.
How long did you go without a screen protector before caving? Also, that stinks you have to cut it down a little I'd suck at something like that.
damn..how old are these macs? brand new or couple of years old?
For those in countries with 24 month warranties, how have your attempts at getting a repair been?
My genius booking is in a few days, so I'll let you all know what happens to me then.
I had SAME PROBLEM :
My macbook was under one year warranty period. I went today to the store and gave it for screen replacement (in hong kong) they accepted it...no questions asked. After the accepted it, I purchased applecare plan for two years additional protection (on my own initiative, for additional protection)
Sounds good but can you provide a little more info ? What type of MBP you have ?
This is happening to my rMBP from late 2013, mostly in the bottom left corner, some more on the left. I have only used the provided cleaning cloth, i have never used any other cloth or any liquids.

Who has the latest affected model? Is there anybody who bought it in 2015 with this problem? I would like to know if Apple already fixed the problem.
I'm quite curious if the origin of the LCD panel (since glass and matrix are fused) has any relation with this. Although the fusing process is downstream from LCD matrix manufacturing, Apple may just have more than one factory doing fusing for the two LCD matrix brands (LG/Samsung) separately.
Anyone else in this thread suffering from this problem could care to comment what brand your panel is?
There is now a website called staingate (staingate.org) which is completely dedicated to fixing the 'stain' problem on the macbook pro.
You can sign a petition and get your voice out. Please spread the word.
What is the Staingate?
We are a group of Apple customers that paid more than 2000 USD/EUR for a Macbook that is showing horrific stains in the screen.
The stains can start as early as 7 months after the purchase. There is no clear pattern as to how it starts: some experience it in small spots around the edge, on other screens it appears in the middle as large patches.
Apple hasn’t responded accordingly to this problem and have told us that this is a “cosmetic damage and it is not covered by the warranty”.
Repair costs are around 800 USD/EUR with a 3 month warranty, so probably in 12 months the Macbook would start showing stains again.
What do we expect from Apple?
A Free Repair Program for all the Macbooks that are having this problem, without taking into consideration if it is under warranty or Apple Care. Because we already paid a lot of our hard earned money to have a defective laptop.
We have a database of 1111 people that have this problem and it grows every day. We expect solutions.
Last Update: March 29, 2015
As I posted earlier in this thread, I have a late July/early August 2012 rMBP that is still pristine. It shipped with a Samsung screen, and still has the same one that it shipped with. I am typing on it now...Look at post #33 on this very thread. Maybe some are doing fine, but considering the damage is caused not by the user but by the fragility of the material used by Apple, it's likely/has the potential to happen, at least to some extent, to every rMBP (in my opinion).surely there must be some early adopter 2012 users (for longevity purposes, not that SKU in particular) who are still doing alright?
It happened to this guy within 2 months of ownership. From what I've heard it takes at least 7 months. Mine and most others took about a year, so the newest should be early 2014. Someone said they have seen stains like that on Apple Store MacBooks, so it can probably happen much quicker and the problem is not resolved.damn..how old are these macs? brand new or couple of years old?
WOW.... I was very seriously considering picking up a 2015 MBP Retina 256GB today, however reading of these display issues really has me concerned. I am now thinking that it would be best to wait....![]()
