i'm sorry i don't share your need to go out of my way to come across as 'clever' every single post i make --get over yourself

listen, it's pretty simple, if you want more than 2 usb ports you either buy a hub or get a pc laptop, maybe apple is not your thing as much as you'd like it to be

Apple could put 10 USB, 4 FW, a 30 hour battery and people will still find something to complain, "gee, all these ports added, .0001 ounces of weight"

You can never please everyone.

I'm going to tell you something real and also anecdotal because you don't speak for me when you say 'we'.

I bought my Mac for OSX, the hardware was just there already. Back then my first Mac was comparable in features except for processor. Now I expect more from the hardware after using Macs for 6 years.

Its interesting that all the defenders for Apple go off on huge extremes when giving examples when most of us are just asking for a modest bump in ports.

Whoa cowboy!! I wouldn't mind a few extra ports too. But where is all that ***** gonna fit? And losing the optical drive...C'mon Son!! You know your wack for saying that s***!! Bottom line is this, to preserve it's slim pretty form factor you will sacrifice some ports. You want more ports, get another lappy or stop the b****** please.

Its not about being clever, its being able to read. I have already stated I have a hub AND that when I make a future purchase, I would like to buy the 17" MBP, problem solved. And Apple may not be my thing because of 1 USB port? You're weird.

Another person going to the extreme when there isn't a need to.

Losing the optical drive isn't a massive technical hurdle nor is it bs, its going to go at some point like with the MacBook Air.

I was going to an extreme, but people on these boards will find ANYTHING to complain about, if there was 3 USB, people would ask why not 4? It has a 7 hour battery, why not 8? etc. etc.

It was just like I was reading a reviews of the new MacBook, and the reviewer was actually complaining that the new MacBook was a quarter of of an inch wider then the old MacBook.

@Davidkoh, we're drifting off topic but I think sanitation is a better invention and as I don't drive I get around quite easily on public transport, at least one can stretch his feet on a train.

Simple, don't have the battery hugging the side of the laptop, move the battery back to the middle like they use to be in the older MacBook Pro's.

If you want to go crazy, don't include the optical drive, use that space for something else. Without an optical drive you could increase the battery size, add more ports and fit in a expresscard slot. Make the optical an extra purchase. Netbooks don't have optical drives.

It isn't rocket science.

You better contact Apple ASAP. You've clearly outpaced the teams of designers that worked on the MBP. If only they'd known they could move the battery a few inches, we would've had that extra USB port.

I bet all the people who worked on the MBP are gonna feel really sheepish when they realize you solved one of it's greatest design flaws, without any knowledge of engineering or computer design: The lack of another USB port.

Lol, if you missed it, I was asked for my opinion on what I would do, I wouldn't have said anything otherwise. :)
