According to USPS its still stuck in China? Its been 8 days since I ordered it and its still stuck there?

USPS tracking blows...along with USPS. I had a package in my state 2 hours away take over 24 hours to move an hour in distance and USPS tracking usually doesnt update until certain times. And dont even get me started on fedex stupidpost, 15 hours to go 15 miles...literally. I called and said what, did you kick the package down the street?

That's why they call it "Delivery Confirmation" and not "tracking" ;)

Hello guys,

as i'm on the way to get my Macbook pro, i have slowly started to order things like optibay alternative (fenvi, nimitz) and also external usb enclosure for the superdrive (Air-lookalike).

All of them already arrived and i have made some pictures, perhaps someone will find it usefull.

Image

It comes in the simple package like this without any instructions or description.

Image

Packed in a plastic form, apple-like.

Image

The top part of the enclosure.

Image

Inside view.

Image

Inside view. There is a felt stripe glued on the slot opening (not very good visible here, i guess)

Image

PCB view.

Image

Other side of PCB. PCB is machined and looks like even had some sort of quality control (acc. to sticker).

Image

Bottom Part.

Image

Bottom part is out of metal with the large rubber ring glued on.

Overall quality is ok, tests and report will follow.

Hi,

May I know where can I get this external usb enclosure - look nice and like superdrive external.

Ideally, I think it's worth a few more dollars for the one that mounts to the original superdrive holes. After that, it doesn't matter which Chinese brand you choose.

So is that the Fenvi one which has the extra mounting holes?

Both the Nimitz and Fenvi ones have model with or without the extra holes. You just have to look at the pics.

I still dont understand why people go out of there way to buy from a seller that has never been mentioned here...Nimitz and apparently Fenvi now are the tried and trusted.

It has been stated multiple times that the optibay is just a link and *should* not affect link speed.

I have not read this thread in full but I just bought from ebay for $10. It was shipped from Hongkong for less than $5…. so in total less than $15

It works okay until now… I had it for like 6 months or so….

I decided to buy it, because I wanted to piss people off on an online forum by not using their tried and tested methods. I bought it as a direct attack on everything this forum stands for, and I definitely went WAY out of my way to do it.

I would like to also make it clear that I did not buy it because it was cheaper than the other options or because it was estimated to arrive 3 weeks earlier than all the other options I could find. Those were definitely not factors in my decisions. I'd also like to make it clear that I had definitely read this entire thread before the purchase, and I definitely did not stumble upon this thread after the purchase. My high post count on these forums and in this thread is indicative of a very active presence here, and thus I had obviously read this thread, in its entirety, pre-purchase.

I hope this clears up any angst you may have had in trying to decipher the actions of us "people".

If everyone had that attitude, we'd never know about Nimitz and more recently Fenvi.

You have 2 posts...you probably found this thread/forum in a google search. I dont know how or why you got here but all messages are saved for a reason...so they can be read at a later time. What I do know is the last 3 pages alone both mention nimitz and fenvi.

If everyone had that attitude, we'd never know about Nimitz and more recently Fenvi.

Yes and no one would buy an optibay to begin with so there went your logic, when buying stuff like this on ebay you go with what works and not try to play the lottery. When you have two that both work fine, there is no reason to go search ebay for another brand that has no information. Its not like both of these are in short supply.

Boom, roasted. Nicely done. It's most likely made by the same factory as the other ones mentioned. Just a different distributor.

I've just read this thread with much interest but havent been able to work out what to do.

I want to get an optibay enclausure for my 17" 2011 MCB but haven't spotted anyone saying they have got one to work. I'm assuming its basically the same as the 15" but i've read a number of things that quote different superdrive sizes...

has anyone had any experience putting one in this laptop?

cheers

I bought a OptiBay caddy and an external enclosure for my superdrive, I have two questions:

1st) Can I boot from the caddy? (I'd prefer to have the SSD in the caddy and leave the HDD on the original spot, that way it will probably be more secure)

2nd) Will the normal USB 2.0 port on a macbook handle the power needed for the superdrive? Or should I get a Y USB cable?

A superdrive is a superdrive...same exact thing from 13-17

thanks for the response.

done a bit more digging and it appears my laptop has SATA III on both ports. will these caddies work with that? am i correct and it is just a connector and the port is all the clever bits

cheers

Yep, it's just a connector. I have SATA3 on both ports and mine works fine.

That makes no sense whatsoever...I don't think you quite get the point.

when buying stuff like this on ebay you go with what works and not try to play the lottery.

If that were true, no one would ever touch products from Nimitz and Fenvi. We'd still be paying $50+ for the name-brand items.

When you have two that both work fine, there is no reason to go search ebay for another brand that has no information. Its not like both of these are in short supply.

Yet that's exactly what happened. We had Nimitz as someone people trusted, but some decided to try Fenvi. Hey, what do you know...they work just as well. We now have another quality source for name-brand alternatives.

If YOU don't want to try an unknown source, fine. But there's no reason to try bossing others around, like you've had a propensity for in this thread.

Does anyone know the latest shipping times for nimitz? I just purchased this caddy:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220810644282&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:1123

It says at the top, that I should expect it from September 28th - October 12th; yet, in the body of the item description, it says US buyers should expect it in 6-12 days.

Having read some posts from July, it seems people were getting them within a week. Back then, had it said at the top of eBay listing that it would take much longer than it actually did?
