=O

Lol he just basically ruined the upcoming suspense we all pretty much expected!

I doubt he knows what system the tablet will run on though. .. Apple isn't silly to gave ALL the info out regardless who it is.

Flash. Lame A$$. Now go do your homework before mommy takes away your afternoon snack.

Doesn't matter if it's lame it's still the industry standard no matter how much we'd like it to HTML 5 or quicktime. Please tell me where you can go to watch TV shows on the internet, legally. The #1 response is Hulu, I've wanted to watch Hulu on my iPhone for so, so long it's ridiculous. Now, we're going to have a 10" screen - the size of some laptops and you can't even watch streaming TV shows??

It's going to be a deal breaker for a lot of people - that or it's going to be hacked so quickly it won't matter...

This guy pretty much makes it official that the much hyped Apple Tablet will be announced tomorrow and all this dope of a news reporter has to say is that she likes to smell her textbooks.

Don't you want to smell her textbooks too?

:p

But seriously.... this is sounding more and more like a giant iPod touch + e-reader. It was mentioned that the OS is "iPhone-based", so maybe it's some hybrid of the iPhone OS and Snow Leopard?

I don't even want to imagine battery life.....

for me, a version of the iphone os that can also handle regular mac apps would be ideal.

Not happening on ARM hardware (not enough horsepower). Or on Intel (what's the point?)

this fusion could also lead to the possibility of running iphone apps in future osx releases, maybe as dashboard widgets

You can already sort of do that with the iPhone SDK emulator.

oh wow the new product tomorrow is a tablet.... that is major inside leaked info...

oh and the product goes well with books? yikes...he shouldnt have ruined the surprise for all.

The last time a vendor leaked info like this (it was a major graphics card vendor, I believe Nvidia) 24 hours in advance of a Macworld keynote, Jobs personally cut the card OUT of the MacPro and had an ATI card put in its place. No joke.

That. Reporter. Is Hot. I like to smell textbooks too...
iPhone OS = NO BUY.
This:
1. You have no idea what OS 4.0 is like.
2. Just because it has the underpinnings and app compatibility doesn't mean it will share the same UI.
3. You have not even seen the device yet.

Nope. It's a well-timed Apple PR leak.

I'd have to agree with this. If he's been working with Apple for this long and thoroughly I'm sure he would have been told what not to say. This was the plan from the start. do any of you honestly think it is a coincidence that this interview took place less than 24 hours before Apple is unveiling this thing?

Omgggggg

a 10 inch iPod touch that can read magazines and books! OMG!!! Must spend $999 immediately for this amazing and innovative device! What a revolution...nothing will ever be the same again!

Maybe they'll have a paint app...can I actually use my fingers to paint like on an actual canvass but like on a screen instead???? OMG tablet!!!!

How about the macbook pro??
Will they be anounced tomorrow??

I really hope so.. I'm far more interested in a Macbook Pro than a tablet, since I'm actually in the market for a new MBP, but I wouldn't buy the tablet until the 2nd version, regardless of how drool-worthy it is.

CNBC doesn't hire the brightest bulbs.

And people wonder what it takes to be a financial analyst... The rest of us had to read the books - she just smelled them. Well, maybe she's the smart one after all since she didn't even have to do anything to get a d@mn nice job... hmm...

Youtube is starting to rent video and they also are transitioning to HTML 5.

As will Hulu.

Watch..

This is going to kick Adobe in the butt to get out a better product.

I predict the tablet will be an "iPhone Pro" - same OS but better specs and with specialised apps (like productivity and graphics apps, where the bigger screen and better processor lend themselves to these tasks) and the ability to buy and read interactive magazines (with video embedded etc) and eBook on the device that have been bought with iTunes.

I daresay the e-mags and e-book integration is a part of iPhone OS 4, and if you can buy them from iTunes (which you will be able to) then you'll be able to read them on your iPhone too because Apple will want maximum sales revenue from them, which they can't get if they limit their purchase to just the tablet.

Which, if all this is true.... what other benefits does the tablet have over the iPhone besides a bigger screen and some specialised apps?

I kinda think you answered your own question here - iTablet is for content creation and consumption, iPhone / iPod Touch is for consumption only. Personally I'd love to see Apple make the iTablet a full-fledged iTunes server, as in it can sync and manage iPods and iPhones with full contact / bookmarks / whatever sync just like the desktop version. That way you've got a device that not only fits into the existing ecosystem but expands it massively by letting you... oh, for example: take a movie clips with your iPhone, trim it down a bit, sync it (and several other clips) to your iTablet, automatically add it to iMovie on the tablet, create a project, add transitions, pictures, music as you would on OS X, upload it to your web service of choice and resync your finished product back to your iPhone via iTunes (and have it in your movie library of course. Wow, that was a long sentence, sorry.

I agree too.

I want a tablet with MacBook features, not iPhone features.

Then buy a damn Macbook. What is wrong with some of you? Why in hell would you put OSX on a tablet?

You don't think someone is going to Jailbreak this tablet?

OK forgot all this back and forth ... Someone just tell me when this thing is Jailbroken!!!!

*gets wallet out*

Imo

There is no way Steve approved that announcement; and if anyone thinks he did better have a damn good explanation as to why.

Less than a day before the mystery device and this happens. Please....

Walking papers he may get; me thinks.;)

It's part of the Steve's NEGOTIATIONS ... Duh!!!

I think everyone forgets that aside from Design, alot of the work for a new Apple product is the deals that Steve Jobs makes with Old School Monopolies.

The Newspapers know what happened to the Music Labels, so I'm sure Steve has to innovate in each new negotiation as well!

My take is that McGraw-Hill CEO was rung up by Steve and told to say this at the exact time and second when it was required. Why?

1. The other Newspapers are probably all holding out, colluding, whatever.
2. McGraw mentions 95%, Steve basically waving the bait to the others.
3. As previously noted, Apple's legal and NDA would be super super tight.

This is calculated negotiating at its best. What better way to push the others into agreements, than make them think they may miss out!!

Whether apple put him up to it or not, Apple win either way... What have apple lost? everyone has pretty much figured out it'll be iPhone OS, what we would all like to know is HOW they've implemented it and what features above and beyond the existing iPhone OS they've added... And all that is still a closely guarded secret... until tomorrow :)

I suspect, since he's kept his mouth shut for the entire period of the development of the tablet and it's content, he's unlikely to be stupid enough to let something slip in an interview less than 24 hours before apples' official announcement; not unless he's been told by apple he can talk about that part of it!

Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow :)

I love watching the couple of idiots who whine non-stop about the rumored 3.x version vs a brand new 4.0 version....

These same whiners have no idea what the software differences are between the current release and rumored 3.x, or what the difference between the rumored 3.x and rumored 4.0 would be...... or what the differences would be between vanilla iPhone OS and a tablet iPhone OS variant.

I again go back to Microsoft would love these suckers... its precisely for them they named Windows 6.1 as Windows 7.0... if you go to the command prompt and type ver, it does not say 7.0 people.

Who cares what the version and build numbers are as long as it has the right features and works? They could have been developing many of these features the last 3 years side by side the iPhone releases and just disabled them in all public builds. Then it genuinely is a 3.x release because YOU NEVER SAW HALF THE OS ...... dumb asses ... its not like the tablet was invented in the last week.
