Intentional Leak. This primes the 24 hr news cycle for maximum exposure tomorrow.

Ordinary folks (unlike all us Apple-obsessed types here :)) will hear the teaser tonight - or in the morning - that Apple's, "up to something". Curiosity piqued, they'll come home from work tomorrow and make a point of checking the news. And at that precise moment, the tablet will be on all the front pages. Easy! No work required. So very Apple.

Leave it another day, and the front pages will be talking about something else, and the masses won't be bothered hunting for the story.

I actually thought the best quote was "I like to smell my textbooks" at the end, followed by the blank stare of the McGraw Hill guy.

Youtube is starting to rent video and they also are transitioning to HTML 5.

As will Hulu.

Watch..

This is going to kick Adobe in the butt to get out a better product.

Yes, and we'll all be flying in 787's one day - I don't care about the future unless of course Apple is planning on waiting to release the iPad until Hulu is going to do HTML5 or QT but I've got a hunch they won't since NBC and Apple never seem to get along these days.

This isn't about being "backward" compatible - this is about being currently compatible. No Flash = no deal (yes, it's that big of a deal - it's a computer if you'll remember, not a phone).

If its based on the iPhone software, i'm hoping for a big visual upgrade. Something like the look of the new iLife

I'm talking matte scroll bars

Dark backgrounds with gradient

And also iTunes 9 silver top gradient

No more aqua blue backgrounds with penstripe. Much better looking. Probably a preview for the new marble interface for Mac OSX

WATCH THE VIDEO AGAIN LOOK AT 2:44 subtitles

this is interesting, watch the video again and watch the subtitles, it says apple itablet before she even asked the question. about 2:44 someone knows something but i dont think its just him.

There is no way Steve approved that announcement; and if anyone thinks he did better have a damn good explanation as to why.

Less than a day before the mystery device and this happens. Please....

Walking papers he may get; me thinks.;)

Apple does do controlled leaks. What this leak does is it generates hype/press going up to the event tomorrow.

That guy from McGraw-Hill likely had to sign away his life, kids, wife, house and soul with an NDA a long time ago but was given the "ok" to do this by Jobs to help the hype.

I don't understand why you need a better explanation than a controlled leak. If this information is true, I pretty sure Apple played a role in it getting out.

What a jerk....he made the announcement for them.

Really?! What more did you and everyone else making their "threats on behalf of Steve Jobs and Apple" learned from this interview that you hadn't known of before?

It holds e-books and will be great for the educational and professional market... Now can someone tell me from this interview, what it looks like exactly? Built in camera? How about the other specs... wifi, bluetooth... What about processor power and speed and RAM and HD capacity if any?

Can you tell me the size of the thing, form factor, buttons, I/O, etc?

We have a pretty good bet it will hold e-books, but what of movies, tv, iTunes songs, Lala, etc... and the apps, mustn't forget the apps...

So I ask again, what more have we learned over the other posts read here on MacRumors and other rumor sites when they reported on "Analysts Insights" or "Walt Mossberg Speaks" then from this guy....

You and your Ninja stuff and Steve Jobs gonna take him to the woodshed... I'm Apple through and through but sometime guys, you make me say "Good Grief!"

Go :apple:!

2 things:

1. Most NDA's have an exception that allows you to make a disclosure if it is required by law or the rules of a securities exchange (eg NYSE or NASDAQ). If you are making an earnings announcement you are required to disclose other matters that may materially affect your prospects and/or earnings (= share price). Accordingly, McGraw-Hill may well have argued to Apple that they were required to make at least a limited disclosure about the tablet (as it will have an impact on MH's earnings/share price) and then the actual content /parameters of the release would have been 'negotiated' with Apple. Apple itself seems to take a robust view on this rule for itself, which they wouldn't get away with here in Australia.

2. Maybe "the smell of the text-books" comment was part of the release to give a hint that the new product adds smell to the audio, video and touch interface. Next year, 5.0 will add taste - can't wait for that.

Yeah... CEO Terry MCGRAW of MCGRAW Hill is going to get canned for saying a tablet is coming out tomorrow.

Oh I dunno about walking papers, but he
may well be up for a Darwin Award :)

At least we know it is an iPhone OS device now, and good thing too. Anyone expecting something else should get themselves a modbook.

I'd just like to say that I think it's hilarious that I'd never seen anyone even mention a "controlled leak" on this website before that write-up on Mac Observer about the Wall Street Journal article -- and now everyone's throwing around the term as though it's oh-so-obvious to them (but no one else).

I'm not saying it is or it isn't -- just an observation.

Why?

I'd imagine that like myself he wanted Mac OS.

Why would anyone want to use an OS designed for a keyboard and mouse on a touch-based interface device?

What does anyone really believe they won't be able to do using an Iphone-like OS?

I posted the following on the previous thread right befor the new story was posted...

#2. EDUCATION. This was linked from another site,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPS1DMlzz0M

it is Apple's vision of computing in education back in 97 and includes some tablet dreams. It is really cool and I think that there will be a focus during the keynote on how this device will be used in education, the publishing industry is not the only one that needs a refresh. The iPod was a hit at Universities with at least one I remember giving incoming students their own iPod. Unfortunately the iPod never really took off in schools, I believe this will. If 10" it will be big enough for small groups 2-4 to use it together, pass it around etc. I think it very plausible for Steve to announce a partnership with a textbook company and even a small test program at a University

Well, for one, file management...

This sounds like another great consumer device and cash cow for Apple that will leverage the app store, iTunes, and media streaming. However, what I want from Apple is a slate/tablet based on OS X with handwriting recognition and pen input that I can use in my business for electronic signing of documents.

Another consumer Apple product with zero business application.

Based on the intense secrecy of the iPhone project, I seriously doubt this guy has ever seen whatever Steve Jobs will be holding onstage tomorrow.

Further, I'd guess only a few at Apple know what it actually looks like and how it operates. Two of them are Jobs and Ives. The book publishers only see what they need to see.

iPhone OS = NO BUY.

This is for you.

BASED on iPhone OS, like I have been saying for about 2 years! Yes, iPhone OS will become more powerful and more like a desktop OS but it will NOT be Mac OS X. iPhone OS is made for multi-touch. They will evolve iPhone OS, it will have added features, cool new UI elements, and so on! Why i s this so hard to understand. I swear it is like I'm taking crazy pills. I give up on these delusional people!

THING IS...

What we will see over this coming year is a merging of iPhone OS and Mac OS... the lines between them will become more blurred.

Why do people who read iphone OS automatically assume there isn't a major overhaul with 4.0?

Can we at least wait to see the damn device?

At least SOME PEOPLE here understand what is going to happen!
