These are the numbers I'm playing... 4 8 15 16 23 42 ...

I told my wife that I was going to play those numbers, win, then buy a fried chicken restaurant chain. Not sure if I will invest in a bright yellow Hummer or not... Trip to Australia and back is a no brainer!!

The lottery is so ridiculous. Your chances of winning are significantly less than being struck by lightning. Or even clicking on a facebook ad.

Also, I'm in for $5.

And the jackpot is up to $640 million. I'm betting it will exceed 700 million by the time of the drawing.

I don't get who says that buying one or more doesn't really changes the odds.
one dollar -> 1:176 million chance
ten dollars-> 1:17 million chance. still slim, obviously, but quite a difference.

Perhaps if you can mix and match numbers from each line you play that logic would be true.... But each dollar that you play is a seperate game so you're chances are still 1:176 Million just that you have that chance 10 times. So in essence you are not increasing your chances of winning you are just giving yourself more shots at it.

which means exactly that you are increasing your chances of winning.

Assuming a .80% rate (which seems to be a going rate in an online HYSA):

Interest earned over 26 years: $57,548,663.11
Total amount: $307,548,663.11

That's not including the taxes you'd pay on the interest. So you'd be better off taking the annual payments. But I'd still take the lump sum.

Or you can invest in Triple tax exempt Municipal Government bonds which pay around 3.00% interest and all the money you get is tax free.

I'm in a few different pools here at work. A few days spent dreaming about what to do with all that money is more than worth a few bucks. Sure, I'll probably get eaten by dragons before I win, but at least I'm having fun. :)

I'm in for $20.

Hoping nobody wins this drawing. I want to see the frenzy cause a $billion+ jackpot for next week.

I bought $20 quick picks. Most I've ever spent on the lottery. The line at the quick check after work was almost out the door so I used the automated machine. Part of my work involves a poor school district, if I was to win I'd donate a good amount to that district and have people I know be the distributors, I'd also donate a lot of money to music education and poverty assistance. I'd feel gross not donating most of it to be honest and I'd dedicate the remainder of my life to helping people. After making my family comfortable I'd of course make a trip to the apple store for myself though :D

Say you do that:
For me: 55 years of interest
3% return
300 Million dollar total after all taxes
= 1.5 BILLION around the age of 80

I'm in for $1. I figure the excitement is worth a buck. If I win, I'll buy everyone in here a beer. (Sorry, I'm not going to buy everyone an MBA. I'm not made of money!!) :D

I went across the street from my work to the convenient 7/11 and there was 8 people in there just buying tickets. I don't think I've ever seen 8 people in there at once, ever. The lady said it was like that all day.

Crazy, crazy people. If the cut off for the amount is up until tickets are sold, I feel it will hit over 700mil. There's going to be a huge end of work rush to buy tickets.

My mom gave me 30 bucks to spend on the Mega Millions. I'm buying on behalf of my family. If we do have the winning numbers, everyone on this message board gets a Macbook Air!*

*The entry level $999 one.

Just posting to be clear that I can please be included in your generous offer.

I've never played the lottery, but figured with all the talk going on at work today about what everyone is going to do with the money, I'd throw 3 bucks at it just for the enjoyment of daydreaming.

I just can't get excited about winning that kind of money. It would be more fun to win a million dollars and still have some kind of incentive left in life.

I can't believe I spent $30 on tickets. That could be a few days of food there. Hopefully I made the right decision.

I won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $2!

Well I got one right. The number 2. Dad won 2 dollars by getting the megaball right. Mom got two numbers. 2 & 23. Didn't win anything from that.
