I am going for the 42mm model, mainly for the hope it offers better battery life. This quote is from the Apple Watch Battery webpage:
"Apple Watch battery performance claims are based on test results from the 38mm Apple Watch. A 42mm Apple Watch typically experiences longer battery life."

Even though I was going to go with the 42mm(big wrists), that's good to hear.

I'm going with the 42mm.

I'm tall but I have very skinny wrists..at first I was leaning towards the 38mm, but after seeing the life-size screen examples on the Apple Store app, I know the 42mm is the right choice. First, holding it to my wrist it seems to not be too large.

Also, having the bigger screen on such a small device will be a better experience I think. Also, any extra battery life doesn't hurt!

I have the Pebble Steel as well, and was pretty surprised reading the dimensions of the Apple watch when compared to the Steel. It's right in the middle of both models width wise, but still taller than both.

I've been leaning towards the 38mm, but every time I see these numbers, I feel like the 42mm would work just fine.

It really comes down to trying these things on, if only they had them for in-store demo before the pre-order date..

I totally agree with you on this! It would only make sense to have a in-store demo before the pre-order date.... That way everyone can yes or no a specific size... Otherwise I see several people returning for a smaller/larger size because of the fit or loosness of the device....

I've looked for the "actual size " photos and haven't seen them on the site bony explore and then enlarging the images

AFAIK its only on the Apple Store App, not the web site. It's very convoluted out they hid it to:

Click on "learn more." Click on "view pricing." At the top in blue click on "compare case sizes." There they are in their full actual size glory.

My current watches are about 40 round. I am thinking I will go 42 on this one.

I think they will look bigger when the screen is off. I'm torn on this issue as well. I will have to swing by the store once the crowds die down a bit so I can check them all out.

Thanks! I found it! this definitely confirmed my preference, which will be the 42mm.. Thank you soo much!

My thoughts exactly. I'm 6'1" and have small wrists (according to my body tape measure, 7" exactly) and I don't wanna risk having too big a watch on my wrist. I've seen the images of people with small wrists wearing the 42mm and it looks tacky to me.

And I completely agree; the larger the face, the dorkier it does indeed look. A smaller face will be easier to adjust to before smartwatches become more widely adopted.

I also don't think an additional 4mm is gonna make it any easier for me to read so 38mm is plenty for it's purposes.

(For the record, the space black stainless steel link band is SEXY. That's my choice. If you haven't looked at the 360 degree view at the store website, DAYUUUUUM!)

It's so funny you mention it. I showed my wife all of the Watches last night and said, "pick the one you'd buy me, if it was your choice." Unfortunately for my wallet, she picked the black stainless, and I'm starting to agree.

The 42mm.

  • Better readability
  • Better battery life
  • More masculine
  • More fashionable

Better readability I an buy. Larger screen means things are bigger.
Better battery life is yet to be seen.
More masculine. Well...just because something is bigger does not mean it's more masculine. It all depends on the wrist.
More fashionable. No. Again, it depends on the wrist. If someone with small wrists wear the 42mm and it's too bulky, it is not going to look for fashionable, it's just going to look ridiculous. I think the Apple Watch looks best if it fits on the wrist with some room available on the top and bottom. If the covers the whole wrist then its too bulky imo.

After looking at the size comparison, I think I'll have to go with the 38mm.

This is the watch I currently have http://www.amazon.com/Freestyle-FS52401-Lopex-World-Polyurethane/dp/B000GHLB7I/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I have small wrists (Measures : 6.3"s). This watch is thicker (12.2mm)than the new :apple:Watch will be . I love The size and feel of this watch. It fits nice on my wrist... The band of my watch actually wraps around more than the actual screen itself...
Im leaning towards the 42mm more and more...

Im around the same wrist size at 6.5". I think the 42mm fits okay but it's a matter of what look your going for. I'm torn between the smaller/tamer look of the 38mm, and the larger screen size of the 42mm. If you love larger sized watches then you won't have a problem going bigger. I'm just not sure I want it to stand out so much as an obvious smartwatch. Everyone here has made great points which has me changing my mind every other post lol

I would want the bigger size , b/c of the battery life(per apple website states the battery tested was for the 38mm.)and the screen size. I work with a few people that have the gear 2, I tried them on and they fit and look akward (BC they range from 57mm-60mm)... They fit my wrist fine, but its just they are too wide (Allot wider than the upcoming :apple: watch)...
Who knows.. maybe ill switch my mind again, but for now Im more than likely going with the 42mm

Doe's anyone know how many links are actually removable on the link bands. From the pics I've seen on the 38mm it looks like only 3 on each side. I'm guessing one on each side has to stay in place to close the band back up.

If that's the case, how does the band fit 135mm-195mm wrists if you can only remove 4 links? I'm sure it works just kind of curious.

Since it is off most of the time, don't underestimate how much bigger it will look on your wrist. I think lots of men would be better off with the 38mm.

Well I just printed out templates. I had planned on getting the 38 but now plan to get the 42. It is not as large as I thought it would be.

Measured my wrist at 165mm (always had skinny wrists) and going for the 42mm. There is the train of thought that big watches make the wrist look small but I tend to think that it's comparative, and a big way watch helps to makes a skinny wrist look bigger....I'm hoping at least!!

Interesting thread. Normally I would lean towards the 42, and I still might. I have other watches in the 40-42 size range. But on most watches the size given is the bezel diameter the Case is bigger. On the Apple watch the screen and case are almost the same. So the overall effect is different than I am used to.

Example: 42 cutout (I checked the size) and a 42mm case watch. Wrist size is about 177mm.

Still might go 42 for readability and battery, but will look at the 38 in real life before I order.

I have a just over 150mm wrist. Pretty tiny, but I'm a lanky bastard so there you go.

Problem is, getting the 38mm locks me out of owning a leather loop band in the future. Kind've annoying.

Did someone say "lanky"? I'm 6'4 and my wrist measures 155mm. I'm quite torn between the sizes. On the one hand, I rea want the 42mm for the Leather Loop, screen, and slightly better battery life. On the other, I think the 42mm might just be a tad too large.

My previous watch was a 42mm Citizen Eco-Drive and I liked how it looked even though the watch face covered almost my entire wrist.

The Cartier Roadster...I promised myself that would be my next luxurious watch purchase, but now with Smartwatches and an Omega in my collection, I might have to rethink that. Great looking watch though..

Thanks! Interesting that the Roadster also has bands that change in almost the same way that the Apple does! I like the Roadster, other than the two expensive repairs so far . . . Still on the fence regarding 38 vs 42 with the Apple, however.

Where did you get the template to print it? I printed out the templates from the other thread on this topic and it seems oversized. If you compare the faces to the Apple App Store app with the actual size of the faces, they aren't even close...Unless I am printing it wrong, but it I did from Chrome.

Edit: Never mind, I printed it right from Preview instead of my browser. 42 it is...

Just going to randomly say you're the first I have seen do the have/of the opposite way.

normally people screw up "should have" as "should of", but you did "kind of" to "kind've/kind have".

Undecided on 38mm or 42m atm

One thing I just thought of--the flat prints we have been trying on do not take the curvature of the case edges. I think will tend to make both sizes appear a little smaller in real life. Can't wait to see the real thing!

I am really really torn on this. On one hand I had my mind set on the 42mm. But I'd rather it not be so large on my wrist. I'm so torn.

I wonder what size Christy was wearing, and what size Tim was wearing.

Mel

Edit: Christy was wearing 38mm as another astute macrumors member told me. She had the modern buckle.
