I've bought blind and am picking up my 42mm Sport today. I'm tall with 165mm wrists so thinking it'll look a touch big although I have been wearing an Urbane the past few weeks.

I may end up going with a 38mm depending on how it feels and if I've plenty of battery left after a typical day.

Haven't always worn a watch but usually prefer understated smaller ones when I do. Obviously the bulky Urbane and blue Sport band are contrary to this.

My 38 fits perfectly.

I never tried it on before I got it, so I never saw it in person. I've always worn regular G-Shock watches before I got the Apple Watch though. But when I opened it for the first time, I thought it was really small. However after wearing it for days, I don't think that anymore. I think it's the perfect size for me, considering the fact that I have 145mm wrists. I also tried on the 42mm last week and thought it was too big.

No Leather loop on 38 a deciding factor

I'm one of the lucky ones with 165mm wrists and average height and build so can wear the 38mm or 42mm without either one looking too big or small. I have been wearing a unisex size Tag (mid size) for 20 years so never owned a big watch. Therefore I was inclined to go towards the 38mm especially as I have to wear a suit everyday but........ They don't do the leather loop for 38mm which is the only strap I'm happy with. So had to go 42mm. I cannot understand why they would not make the leather loop in 38mm as I believe its understated look suits the smaller face well. Just another major fail of Apple in this release.

In all you photos the 42 looked to big for, but this photo made it worse.

You in the 42 actually looks worse then the lady with 38 on LARGE wrists in the "My Big Apology" thread.

I'm in the magical "b" category and after trying both on, I felt the 38 was more comfortable and looked better. Even though the Apple rep said "you will want the 42, the 38 is for girls" I still ordered the 38 because of comfort and looks. If the 42 is comfortable on you great. But just realize it looks bad.

The close up photo does not tell the truth.

someone else pointed out that you have very large hands. I think that is why either watch can work. It is odd how a different angle can change so much. I think the 42 looks better in the top picture, but the 38 looks better in the bottom one.

You're the one of the few who could pull off both but with such large hands and your height (you seem tall), 42 is better for you. You made the right choice.

I bought the 38 knowing it would be fine for me. The 42 would have looked ridiculous on me.

Why do you think that?
And which Band would you say would work better?

I think I replied in the other thear too to you question, but again I do not see any reason for you to get the 38mm. Really NO Reason for.

I would rec sport band or the leather bands. Thats just my opinion.

Today I tried on classic leather and leather loop.
Both lokking better regarding the size.

Looks to big on you in my opinion but my opinion might suck lol!

Anyway, I see the band wraps way up on the other side. Is that a problem with having only one band stay?

It does not wrap up that much i am used to with other leather band watches.

So my 42mm Sport is now sold for two reasons:

1. Too big for my 160mm wrists. I also think it's too wide and squarish.

2. Not a fan of the Alu look at all. Bands are nice and comfy though but quite loud and attention drawing (black aside). Prefer SG on the Sport but much prefer SS.

End result: ordered a 38mm SS Milanese. Should suit my daily workwear more and will pick up a BSB for casual use. Hopefully the smaller size and silver/black is more subtle and uderstated.

Other things: software is great, way more polished and supported than Android Wear. Do prefer a round face but also accept it is less functional (I've tried the 360 and Urbane).

Sweet. Great choice! Enjoy! I went from 42 Sport to 38 SS as well due to my 152mm wrists and SS better fitting my lifestyle.

I can understand your decission.
The sport Band make the 42mm unwearable on a small wrist. Classic leather band is the best band for 42mm and small wrists.

I had the 42mm space grey on order since 13th April but I got tired of waiting. I ordered a 38mm sport with greens ports band on 30th and it arrived last week. She said I could have it and order her another one (white band this time) - so I canceled my 42. And managed to pick up a black sports band in Hong Kong at the weekend.

I quite like the look of the smaller watch on my wrist. I don't want my watch to look too huge. What do you think?

How big are you wrists?

IMO, 42 would have been perfect for you. But, since you like the look of the smaller one, 38 is the way to go.

I think this thread is a little silly. First off the title alone will attract those that picked the 38mm and like it. Secondly, people are basically trying to break sizing down to a scientific fact. It's not.

A watch is truly a very personal thing. Close up pictures of a watch on a wrist don't come close to telling the whole story. A wrist measurement isn't even close to painting the picture of how well a certain size watch works with a certain persons style!

Are you skinny, big, soft features or angular, manscaped to perfection or a little on the natural wild side, etc etc etc Personal style and your total build and size are going to make a much bigger difference than just the measurement around your wrist.

Personally, at 6'2" 225# the 42 is TINY and it at looks silly on me, IMO! But if I post a close up of my wrist alone then it looks just like all the other pics here.

At a minimum people should post a full picture of themselves and a height/weight spec for real perspective.

I prefer much larger watches. The 42mm looks tiny compared to the watches I've worn for the last 25 years.

I always assumed I had small wrists, I am "shorter" by comparison to the average male and pretty fit and thin, so it was always my assumption. Turns out that is not the case, my wrists are still about 200mm, which as I see here is the larger end.

(Side Note: As an American it was impossible to find anything that measures in mm, so I used a cm stick. I stupidly forgot how simple the metric system was and thought I would have to do some stupid conversion. So it stands to reason, why the ***** don't we use the metric system?)

I finally received the 42mm and it looks so much better, the 38mm always looked small. I wouldn't mind the 38mm, it doesn't look bad at all, it is all up to personal taste, but the 42mm also does not look "big." Since the 42mm looks fine I am keeping it for the larger screen size and apparent battery advantage.

I'm not sure exactly, I've never measured. I did go to the apple store to try them on - hence why I didn't order til the 13th - but certain models seemed to suit me in different sizes depending on the band. The 42 in space grey did look best, but then I tried the ML on and it looked far better in the 38, the 42 looked horribly big on me.

So i figured I'm somewhere in between and happy to have the 38. Especially as a case for the gym (don't want to smash it into some weights accidentally) might add some extra heft to it - I look at some of the people with naked 42s and already think they look way way way too big for my tastes.
