Same with me ... annoying new "feature," they lock out non iPhone Tested chargers even if they worked with first gen iPhones.

When the iPod first came out, it had a FireWire connection. When they introduced the dock connector and USB connection on the 2nd generation iPod, it had pin provisions for high-current charging (e.g. via FireWire), and low-current charging (e.g. via USB). Newer iPhones and iPods have deprecated the use of the high-current charging circuit, so any wall chargers, lighter plugs, car interfaces, Bose speakers, etc. which used the 'wrong' pins won't power or charge the device. Updated cables or a simple in-line adapter to correct the pinout will solve the problem. Using the 'correct' pins is backwards-compatible, so there's no bad effects to doing the right thing in this case.
