We will get a 64GB iPhone this year?

Add a stupid MicroSD slot - problem solved. Oh, but Apple doesn't want that because.... they can't make money that way even though it makes for a better device.

They call it a decision made about the design, but I believe it is about the money. They cannot lure us in with larger drives over time. Copy/paste? that is software. More space? Hardware and at a hefty cost. I am real proud I still have a 3G when I have been able to upgrade to the 3Gs since July.

the Nokia N900 will have one, but i think the RIAA companies may have told Apple not to add one since it will make it easier to pirate music

not a big deal though. with Apple lossless for most of my music i have a week's worth of music on my iphone and don't need more storage

Judging by the cycle so far, most definitely.

iPhone gets 4 and 8, Summer 07
Touch gets 8 and 16, Autumn 07
iPhone gets 8 and 16, Winter 08
Touch gets 8, 16 and 32, Winter 08
iPhone gets 8, 16 and 32, Summer 09
Touch gets 8, 32 and 64, Autumn 09
iPhone gets 16, 32 and 64, Summer 10
Touch gets 16, 64 and 128, Autumn 10

After installing Navigon last night, I wish I had more space right now. I only have a 16GB, with over 10GB of music on it. I had to free up 3.1GB just for Navigon to install. I now have 1.9GB available.

I would have a 32GB if I were eligible for an upgrade. If a 64GB becomes available, I'll get it in a hearbeat.

Next iPhone:

64GB
Improved Camera
OLED screen
Dual Core Processor
Case Redesign
Front Facing Camera?
T-Mobile? other carriers?

Easiest way to lower the cost is to remove some of the lesser features of the current model (i.e. compass and oleophobic screen). I'd much rather have some of the features above then a freakin compass!

I agree, except for these two:

Front Facing Camera?
T-Mobile? other carriers?

Next iPhone: 64GB
I think we can assume a displacement bump next year.

Improved Camera
Hopefully an LED flash as well. Not to mention a built in profile to compensate for the flash's color shift.

OLED screen
Yes please

Dual Core Processor
Only if its available, smaller, and draws less power than a single core

Case Redesign
God knows that's the only way some people will accept its a major redesign

Front Facing Camera?
Yes, please.

T-Mobile? other carriers?
Maybe a different 3G radio for compatibility with TMobile in the US. I wonder if they would really drop a CDMA iPhone considering LTE will obsolete it in a year. Then again, its a year of CDMA Verizon sales and CDMA won't magically disappear just because LTE drops.

I would hate to loose the Compass. I never use the Compass app, but its great when combined with maps or nav software.

I actually think that the refresh cycles will be staggered over two years. One year we get major hardware, but no cosmetic changes, and the next we get cosmetic changes and minor hardware changes. We just had a major hardware revision, so next year, regardless of other carrier support, I think we'll get a new case and displacement bump.

A compass may seem like a useless tool, but check this out: Click Here!

Not possible without a compass.

No iPhone 64gb now b\c of the iPad?

Well crap. Now that the iPad, disappointingly, runs a big iPhone OS, Apple will undoubtedly want to keep some "space" between the two product lines. I think this is may slow down iphone development as Apple wont want people to forego their fancy new product for basically the same thing in a smaller and cheaper form factor. I am worried that this will result in NO 64gb iphone for the foreseeable future. That is a huge bummer as I was really hoping for a iphone that could hold all my media (music, photos, videos, movies)..but it looks less likely now.. :(

If they wanted to keep space between them, then why would Apple release a 16 and 32GB version as well?

Obviously, Apple considers the iPad and iPhone to be two separate devices.

I think that this is quite a jump you are making, but of course, time will tell.

the iphone only has a single slot for flash memory

the largest flash memory chips available are 32gb ones

you can see why there currently isn't a 64gb iphone ( the 64gb ipod touch has 2x 32gb chips)

You mean there isn't a 64GB iPhone.

Actually, I believe I recall an article a little while back that the company that makes memory for the iPhone/iPod now has a 64GB chip. Could have been a rumor.

I remember reading that, too. I don't recall the details; only that a company was just beginning production of 64GB NAND chips and I remember thinking that the timing would be really close if they were hoping to make it into new iPhones in the summer.

Time will tell, I suppose.

I know extra space is good to have but isn't 64GB too much for a phone. My 16GB 3GS has over 9GB free as it is and I got plenty on it.

My iPhone is also my iPod. I would take a 64GB in a heartbeat. I have more than enough music to load up on one.

This. In fact, if they had a 500GB iPhone next year (one can dream, lol) I could fill it the day I bought it and find that level of data "useful."

If there is not a 64GB iPhone this summer it will have far more to do with the cost of a 64GB flash module than the iPad. There's just not room in the iPhone to have 2 x 32GB.
