Lol :D
But how much of that music/videos etc could you enjoy on a phone with its limited battery life at a time?

I've seen this argument made many times, and it makes no sense to me. Of course you can't listen to all your music or watch all of your movies on a single charge. But the revolution of the iPod was that you don't have to choose which music to bring with you in advance, but can carry all your music with you so that whatever you are in the mood for will be at your finger tips. How am I supposed to know before I leave in the morning whether I'll want to listen to Led Zeppelin, Rhianna, or Tchaikovski on my drive home? How will I know before my flight what film I might want to watch on my return trip?

And even if I could make those decisions in advance, do I want to spend time every day syncing that day's music and movies to my phone? Of course not!

I hear you, it makes sense.
Maybe a future feature that was rumored could deal with something like this by streaming your itunes library live. That would definetelly be a plus in my book.

You mean there isn't a 64GB iPhone.

Actually, I believe I recall an article a little while back that the company that makes memory for the iPhone/iPod now has a 64GB chip. Could have been a rumor.

oops (fixed already)

those were 64 gigabit = 8gb

Apple was waiting on the production of 32gb chips in order to launch the iphone 3gs.. I've read several tech papers on this and as far as I am aware 64gb NAND chips do not exist (or are not currently being massed produced)

but if someone has proof please post a link

Oh, I think this is probably coming down the road. I believe Apple bought a company with streaming music technology a while back, and I assumed at the time it was for something like this (though knowing Apple it would probably be something more like rhapsody...)

Well crap. Now that the iPad, disappointingly, runs a big iPhone OS, Apple will undoubtedly want to keep some "space" between the two product lines. I think this is may slow down iphone development as Apple wont want people to forego their fancy new product for basically the same thing in a smaller and cheaper form factor. I am worried that this will result in NO 64gb iphone for the foreseeable future. That is a huge bummer as I was really hoping for a iphone that could hold all my media (music, photos, videos, movies)..but it looks less likely now.. :(

So based on your logic

4/8/16/32/64/128GB iPods (of any line) should have never existed
8/16/32GB iPhones should never have existed
any overlapping storage capacity lap/desktop should be eliminated.

I feel your pain, but the iPad isn't going to relate to the storage capacity of any future iPhones.

Samsung anounced that they were ready to produce 64GB chips taking up only one slot in the iPhone. This was probably too late for the iPad. I would expect a 64GB iPhone and 128GB Touch this year.

I know extra space is good to have but isn't 64GB too much for a phone. My 16GB 3GS has over 9GB free as it is and I got plenty on it.

Tell that to my ~85GB of music. I don't understand how an 80GB iPod is fine, but over 16/32GB on a phone that doubles as an iPod is too much.

The new iPhone will have 64 GB. Sure. And maybe the iPad also will get a 128 GB model (except if the iPad is using 1 64GB NAND chip, but I guess it has 2 32GB NAND chips).

While we are making silly assumptions, why not be afraid they may remove data access altogether from the iPhone because Apple wants you to use data services on the iPad and just use the iPhone for calls and media.

Come on people.

Intel now has new technology they will use in their ssd's later this year which will double the storage of current flash based drives. Hopefully it trickles down. I would no be surprised at a 64gb model.

Can't explain it! I don't think there will ever be a such thing as too much storage. My music library, including music videos, is now 42GB. I won't get into how much video I have, except that it's stored on a 1.5TB hard disk that is about halfway full. OK, it's about 750GB, math wizzes.

I had one an iPod 30GB w/video before I bought my original iPhone. That was before iTunes Plus doubled the size of all music. Therefore, my 32GB iPhone 3GS holds about half as much music as the 30GB iPod I had before. I'm sure that the doubled bitrate means better audio quality, but I really can't tell with my headphones, car speakers and 10-year-old computer speakers. But I digress.

If it were possible for a terabyte iPhone, I would be all for it. As technology improves, Apple will probably offer Apple Lossless format music, maybe Dolby Digital or DTS decoding, HD-only videos as storage jumps and the iPhone gains the power to play HD content, etc.

this is exactly why I want a 64GB iPhone. I have ~50GB of music but hate having to select the music I want to listen to in advace of a trip, etc. Right now, my iPod Video is my default "take all my music with me" device, but I want that to be my iPhone. Plus I enjoy using the Genius playlist feature which I can't do on my iPod Video.

Will there be a 64GB iPhone? If not, maybe I know why.

I hope apple some how get's 64gb into the new iPhone.

But with the rumors of iTunes supposedly going to stream, i could see apple keeping the 32gb and allowing you to stream everything else that's on your iTunes library. What do you think?

There won't be a 64gb one because while a 64gb chip exists it's still extremely expensive, that's why the high end iPad with 2 memory spots only has 64. Next year we will probably see it, more storwged can always be used for something, it has nothing to do with if apple adds a cloud streaming service.

If apple was able to add a larger battery to the new iPhone why couldn't the add another chip (I know we haven't seen any evidence of this in all the leaks).

You answered your own question. Also, have you seen the inside of the "alleged" new iPhone?

There is NO SPACE! So, you want 64 or more battery? Take your pick. I am sure most will pick - MORE BATTERY!

so make a removable battery!! you can sugar-coat more colors on the phone but can't design a replaceable battery compartment??

32gb on the 4g iphone is a FAIL.

if apple cannot do it, watch google/htc find a way to introduce another device with this storage capability. samsung already has 64gb chips ready to go.

I am as well hoping for a 64 gb iPhone. As stated, none of the rumors have suggested it so it's probably unlikely. I'm *hoping 64 GB is one of the wow factors with the next phone. With all the leaks, it would be nice to be wowed.

Right now, I have about 26 gb of music in my iTunes library I'd love to squeeze onto my phone but I guess I would rather compromise for better battery.

Lol, might I remind you of the whole external memory card issues on android. You know, where you can't install external apps and such to the memory card? yeah, that.

64 is too much for a damn phone. People are getting used to the doubling of memory with each iPhone and sometimes, that's just not going to happen. It's not a fail. It's technology. You are probably the same one that would WHINE if apple did include it and it increased the cost another $200 because of it. Sorry, but $1K for a phone - no thanks. The iPhone is already pushing the limits - unsubsidized of course.

and 640k memory ought to be enough for anybody, according billy g.

we'll see in couple of weeks.

i WHINE b/c i like apple to succeed, not be complacent since their phone is successful; i like the iphone and try to get the most out of my purchase. 64gb is useful since my itunes library is ginormous, and it also serves as storage for my work.

this forum proves loyalists will buy whatever apple puts out, so when 64gb is made it will be bought, maybe not by you.

No space on the board (even if they did make the battery smaller).

Really? Where? Perhaps you mean Toshiba?

I used to say the same thing. They I started having to "manage" what was loaded on my iPhone/iPod and what wasn't. Annoying as crap. If I can have 64GB and load the entire collection, it would honestly save me time and a headache.

Says you. Personally, I'd like to have 64GB on my next iPhone because it's also my primary iPod. I have to drive from St. Louis to central FL and back periodically and like to listen to movies while doing so; it can get to be a PITA to have to wait at a gas station to remove those I've seen and sync new ones when I'm in a hurry. It'd be nice to be able to swing having 5-6 movies on there along with the TV shows, music videos, and music that normally don't rotate off of the phone.

I take back my comment. The next iPhone should have 128GB. They have 64GB chips, they can fit 2!! :)
